You can have everything from a funky sound to the perfect imitation of a Marshall 1959 head with a slight OD. I really like those old rock overdrives and distortions and there are a lot of them too. You won't have to worry the sounds won't fit you, there will some you don't like, but most are very decent. It also has a very nice tuner. You can find almost every function of the little pedals packed and stacked in this one. The versatility was beyond my expectations. Some may complain about the unit not being capable of warm, true tube-like tones, but for me, it had all the sound and responsiveness I could have wanted. The JC-120 preset was almost perfect. Great swirling chorus tone. Throw single-effect pedals into the effects loop, and you can dial up any tone you can, or even, can't imagine. Everyone in our band loves the thing. Line it straight into the mixer, and you're good to go. Even the acoustic simulator seems to sound pretty good, since most of those units are hopeless to my ears. Editing the presets can become cumbersome. Keep the manual. You will need it. Navigating through all the buttons can get tedious and might start to get confusing. I have never tried the MIDI features, so I don't know how that would work. Figuring out how to set the wah pedal to to it's job was difficult, if not impossible in some cases. All-metal chassis has stood up to my stomping, which is a good thing since I weigh about 300 lbs.

The input level pot needs to be cleaned or replaced, since it has developed a few dropout spots. Still, an easy repair. I have'nt gone through all the presets yet, so I am still unaware of all it's sonic capabilities. So far the unit has performed admirably. I have used it to record a few demos, and no one has mentioned any flaws in the guitar's tone or sound. In particular I wanted better light overdrive sounds and better quality effects than the rp-12 could give External effects loop. I can throw whatever pedal I want into the effects chain. Programable effects order - add delays before distortion if you want, wah after distortion, etc.Boss also gives you a lot of flexibility with the EQ. EQ settings are found in the amp simultar effect, in place of a modulation effect and as a global effect. They also gave a lot of different phaser sounds, but since I'm not a phaser guy I can't really comment on how useable they all are. Another appreciated addition is a trim knob next to the guitar input.Lots of gimmick effects like ring modulation that over 99 of the people who buy this will never use.What you can get are very sterile, solid state sounding distortions.The pedals also feel like they're not going anywhere. If you don't use lots of wah, and you already have a nice sounding amp this should give all the effects and flexibility you will need. But if you're like me (playing through small practice amps and PA systems), this will not give nice organic tube-ish guitar sounds. The patches are usually recoverable and editable via MIDI, but the editor only works with certain versions of firmware and did not work with mine. Regarding the MIDI, the GT offers an opportunity to control an external MIDI controller that can tamper with the live sound by hand (I used a PhatBoy mounted on a mic stand, it allowed me to tinker with the sounds and Larsen directly down without me). Side connections is simple, it comes in mono, it comes out in stereo or mono. The stereo and really means you can play with it, which is not true of all multi-effects and it's good. UTILIZATION Simple configuration in all, once before the logic of the machine.

Harmonizer, flange, phase, sub equalizer, short delay, humanize, ring modulator, tremolo, acoustic guitar simulator, guitar synth. Also, there is a loop insertion FOR A distortion, but you can put what you want BECAUSE chain of effects is placed in the order desired. UTILIZATION Frankly I have been slow to understand everything, but because I am a lazy and dirty that it took six months before I open the record and come to me the holy revelation. It is better to see what gt5 like a very good multi effects and go elsewhere with regard to the preamp and simulation hp. Not that bad to be away from, but we are still not in the presence of a quality that can offer a pod or better.I do not care about the amp simulation. OVERALL OPINION I use this gt5 for 4 years, it allowed me to tame all kinds of effects. The effects are almost all very good. To me the amp simulation and hp is now over. I would do certainly this choice elsewhere. But at the time!. Today I look rather for the pod but this is due to my personal evolution, I attach more importance to the quality of the sound effects as such. I recommend it to all those who already have an amp or a good simulator and who want to use tons of effects of quality. Many effects (feedback, compressor, simulators and speaker amplifiers, distos, chorus, flanger.Possibility to connect to the south of pc for transfers (in sense 2). Very practical to store a large number of rglages download on internet or CRER a backup presets without breaking the head. On the other hand, companies produce good devices sometimes and those products have a longer lifetime. Line 6 still sells the original POD; while POD Xt and POD X3 series died with the appearance of POD HD. I never had GT-3, GT-5, GT-6. But i had two GT-8's and a GT-Pro (rack version of GT-8) and i get great sounds from those, also great compliments on my sound from band mates and audience. I bought a GT-10 and returned it after ten days. I could not get any better or even equally good overdriven sound from GT-10 in comparison to GT-8 or Pro. GT units have great features for both tweaking your sound and controlling options. I wonder how the new GT-100 will stand in competition with current products. Still works, still sounds pretty good. I had a 3, but couldn't afford a 5 back then. When the 6 came out, I was shocked it was cheaper than the 5. The analog distortion side was an AWESOME idea that I was bummed they abandoned. Built like a tank, internal power supply. Had to use sysex to back it up, no pc user interface. Sounds great in 4 cable with with drives out front and time based effects the the loop of an amp. The built in amps sims are ok, nothing compared to today obviously. I tried selling mine, no one was interested. I still use it now and then for effects only. There was also a learning curve to the deep editing (although there was a 3rd party software editor developed for it) but once you got the hang of it.I did so many times myself. The distortions were way cool, the amp sims not too hot though, although you could get some convincing tones. But I really loved it more for experimental sounds. The internal wave controller was something that was hard to comprehend, but extremely bizarre effects could be achieved with this unit. I sold mine because some idiot stepped on a plug inserted in the jack and it broke the internal PCB. I had it fixed by a buddy of mine, and it worked except that engaging the distortion would momentarily drop the sound. They got it later when they started to add knobs instead of buttons.
