This is accomplished by upgrading the chips and tone capacitors. We replace the cheap stock tone capacitors with high quality film capacitors like we use in the rest of our effects. This improves the overall clarity of the pedal. VOLTAGE: The stock GE-7 can not be run over 15V. We modify it so it will run fine on 18V, which will give even more clarity and headroom to the pedal. I ordered the modded version after struggling with this pedal for over a year. The Analogman mod unlocks the potential of this pedal. If you don't have this pedal on your board, you should. Deterioration of the output level below 0 cut the brilliance and the high frequencies. Crackle on the 1st to 5th fret of E and A string and on the entire G string. The pedal is extremely 'quiet' and the positive result is amazing. A satisfying pedal was turned into a very good and professional pedal. A common complaint seems to be that this pedal adds noise to your signal. The more effective way to use this pedal is to CUT the frequencies that you don't want, and then use the level slider to compensate if you feel like that leaves a noticeable drop in overall volume. If you have a humbucker that is too muddy, cut some of the low frequencies. If you have a single coil that is too harsh, roll off the 3.2k and a little of the 6.4k. If you want either type of pickup to sound a bit punchier, you can add in a little mid range, but be judicious about it. Suddenly you'll find that you are finally hearing that sound you had in your head all along. This pedal might not have the curb appeal that some of the boutique special effects pedals do, but it can play a critical role in your signal chain once you learn how to dial in the right sounds.This has led many British amp manufacturers to include specialized tone shaping buttons on the control panel because they are well aware that British EQ isn't as dramatic as American guitarists want it to be. There is nothing wrong with this by any means - it's just an overall characteristic of British amplifiers.

Secondly, any tube amp loves to be pushed with boost and dirt pedals to get extra crispy overdrive from the clean channel - since distortion channels on tube amps have a tendency to compress and limit the output slightly. I use it with a power cable because it will drain a battery in a matter of hours though.I tried some cheaper equalizers and only experience frustration. Bought this one as my go-to EQ. Use it with a number of guitars that I play through the Church's PA system.Awsome boost and eq. Going to buy another one emedietely.This unit allows for great sweeping of frequencies.

When inactive this unit is transparent, no tone suckage. When this unit is engaged, each frequency band carves the sounds nicely however, consideration to have this unit modified to reduce its noisy output has begun for me at least. I am thankful for the internet and the opportunities it presents for me to MOD this Pedal.I wanted more bass depth than provided on my JC40 and Fender Acoustic amps and this pedal provides that. I think (and I could be wrong of course) that the on board EQ on amps provides bass more by treble-cut than true bass enhancement. The sliders are very sensitive so a relatively large change in tone comes from a small movement of the sliders. This takes a little time to master. One thing worries me, with the 9v mains adaptor some slight oscillating background hiss comes in, but not with the battery. Any ideas why.? I can now achieve any range of tone I wish even making my Ukulele sound exactly the same as it does unplugged. The 73quid I paid was worth every penny I can now achieve a warm unplugged Hawaiian sound plugged in. I chose this equalizer after reading opinions on forums. I was looking for a affordable, simple yet effective equalizer, with a good build quality. The GE-7 proved really effective at the task. Basically I use it only to make my tone sit nicely in the mix on rehearsals or gigs. I don't use it at home, because what I'm trying to do is to sound as good as home in a band context. I don't use it to create special sounds or to make my amp sound like another one, though it can certainly do that. I would strongly recommend this unit to any guitarist playing in a band, especially if there are other midrange focused instruments. What works for me is: cut off 100HZ, slightly cut 200HZ, slightly boost 400HZ, slightly cut 800HZ, slightly boost 1KHZ, 3.
2KHZ at unity or slightly below, 6,4HZ is basically the presence, so I adjust it depending on the amp and the context. Building quality is what you expect from Boss. I bought mine to use with my fender telecaster standard usa. I felt the guitar needed some more low end and high tones trimming. And when this pedal came in it did exactly that with top grades. There really isn't much to it, you just plug it in, set the equalizer to a desired level and that's it. I like that it's simple. What i dont like is that these meters are extremely sensitive. You need to move the knob for like a smallest amount possible and the result is already very noticeable, so in some cases its quiet difficult to find and then keep this setting, especially if you use it for live shows. Just a touch of some cables on top of an eq can change its character drastically, so i advise some caution and second check after transporting it. Other than that, this pedal works superbly, and i cant play without it. I am a guitar player and I had one of these 20 years ago when I was gigging in lots of different rooms so this pedal is great for adjusting your tone depending on the acoustics of the gig.
