I chose this equalizer after reading opinions on forums. I was looking for a affordable, simple yet effective equalizer, with a good build quality. The GE-7 proved really effective at the task. Basically I use it only to make my tone sit nicely in the mix on rehearsals or gigs. I don't use it at home, because what I'm trying to do is to sound as good as home in a band context. I don't use it to create special sounds or to make my amp sound like another one, though it can certainly do that. I would strongly recommend this unit to any guitarist playing in a band, especially if there are other midrange focused instruments. What works for me is: cut off 100HZ, slightly cut 200HZ, slightly boost 400HZ, slightly cut 800HZ, slightly boost 1KHZ, 3.2KHZ at unity or slightly below, 6,4HZ is basically the presence, so I adjust it depending on the amp and the context. Building quality is what you expect from Boss. Worth mentionning I didn't notice any coloration from the buffered bypass when the pedal is off. There really isn't much to it, you just plug it in, set the equalizer to a desired level and that's it. I like that it's simple. What i dont like is that these meters are extremely sensitive. You need to move the knob for like a smallest amount possible and the result is already very noticeable, so in some cases its quiet difficult to find and then keep this setting, especially if you use it for live shows. Just a touch of some cables on top of an eq can change its character drastically, so i advise some caution and second check after transporting it. However, most guitarists would agree that they would prefer to use a 9v power-supply with their pedal board, so there’s no risk in anything accidentally turning off. The GE-7 has been in production since the 1980s and yes, that means that it’s been selling for over 30 years, with adjustments, granted. With this being said, how does the pedal sound. As you can hear from the video demonstration, the unit does well in providing a clean boost for a specific frequency range within a mix. Now, we would have preferred for the video demonstration to directly compare the sound to when the unit is disengaged, but it’s still a nice demonstration video. This leads us on to our next section What would we improve. As previously explained regarding the MXR M109S, the Boss unit appeals to guitarists because of the wealth of experience Boss has in producing high-quality audio equipment, and therefore this remains their unique selling point, in comparison to their newly founded competitors. With that being said, the Boss GE-7 does not have the largest frequency range, not the largest amount of dB boost available. However, it provides reliability and high-quality circuitry.

To be honest, the fact that the internal circuitry of this unit is based on such a legendary processing circuit; We simply cannot suggest improvements as easily or as readily as we have done with other pedals. It has been noted that this pedal provides good-quality digital EQ for guitar, however, one review states that the build quality is less than they expected, saying that it felt a little cheap and the rubber feet would regularly fall off (might be a case of gluing them on). Taking into account the high-quality sound, beautiful wooden aesthetic design and all of the parameter controls, we simply don’t have any suggestions on improvements that can be made regarding this pedal. Who is this pedal for. This is an extremely premium-sounding, all-analog EQ unit, which is highly versatile. Therefore if you’re a guitarist who wants that analog sound, whilst the versatility to use it on multiple instruments in both a recording and live performance setting, this unit is for you. A common complaint seems to be that this pedal adds noise to your signal. The more effective way to use this pedal is to CUT the frequencies that you don't want, and then use the level slider to compensate if you feel like that leaves a noticeable drop in overall volume. If you have a humbucker that is too muddy, cut some of the low frequencies. If you have a single coil that is too harsh, roll off the 3.2k and a little of the 6.4k. If you want either type of pickup to sound a bit punchier, you can add in a little mid range, but be judicious about it. Suddenly you'll find that you are finally hearing that sound you had in your head all along. This pedal might not have the curb appeal that some of the boutique special effects pedals do, but it can play a critical role in your signal chain once you learn how to dial in the right sounds.This has led many British amp manufacturers to include specialized tone shaping buttons on the control panel because they are well aware that British EQ isn't as dramatic as American guitarists want it to be. There is nothing wrong with this by any means - it's just an overall characteristic of British amplifiers.
