Suction Obstructions in the hose pose the most likely cause of the vacuum not suctioning. Detach the hose and remove the blockage. Stick the handle of a mop or broom into the hose to remove stubborn blockages. Check the dust fill cup to determine if it is full. If so, remove and empty it to improve suction. Locate, remove and clean the foam filter, as a dirty filter can affect the vacuum's suction. If you wash the filter, wait until it is dry before reinserting it into the vacuum. Check the filter screen for clogs and clean as needed. When you power up the vacuum, verify the switch setting adjusts to the right setting for the floor. If something gets caught in the brush roll, the overload protector shuts off the roller. Lie the vacuum down and turn it over to access the brush roller after turning it off and unplugging it from the wall. Check the roller for threads, hair or other debris wrapped around the roller. A pair of scissors can cut through long threads and help you to remove them from the roller. Double-check the belt on the roller to verify it sits in the groove made for it. The brush roller won't function properly when the belt is misaligned. Motor If you are in the middle of vacuuming and the motor suddenly stops, the thermal cutoff element on the vacuum might trigger the vacuum to shut down. The thermostat on the thermal cutoff protects the motor from overheating. A clog or some other malfunction could cause the vacuum to overheat. Once this element trips, the vacuum can be reset. A blocked hose, full dust cup, blockage in the hose or stuck brush roller all could be causes for the motor overheating. Check these items and fix as necessary. Once fixed, you need to wait 30 minutes before using the vacuum again. Warnings The Electrolux upright does not run well on furniture, as the brush roller can cause damage to furniture. If you use the vacuum on stairs, ensure it stays in an upright position.

This was the first official model with the Aerus name change. In my opinion, age is not a big factor in an Electrolux because they last for so long. What you need to look at is condition and how they have been treated. In my opinion, I would not be scared off by a 10 or 15 year Electrolux. If properly maintained, you probably have another 15 years of use left. You could go through 5 super store plastic vacuums in that amount of time.As we have serviced, repaired and rebuilt thousands of Electrolux or Aerus Vacuums we have not noticed any problems and they are powerful dependable vacuums that you will love. The only exception to that is the Electrolux Renaissance. That was the 1st model that they put the switches to control the vacuum in the hose handle and they had some problems with that hose going out after awhile. I think for the money they are an excellent value. I think if you get the models 6500, Guardian, 8000, 9000 canister models you are fine and the uprights I would go with the Gray Epic 3500 models and you would be fine. If you want to buy a brand new Electrolux (now Aerus) product you will need to contact Aerus directly as that is the only way to buy new units. If you want to save some money and buy reconditioned then you can shop at our store at the link below. Those are made by a different vacuum company (Proteam) but the quality and power is just as good if not better.
