Bike of the Week – Bianchi Infinito CV

Bianchi Infinito CV Bianchi Infinito CV CloseupI love me a good looking bike and though I haven’t really wandered down our cycling heritage too much for key examples of frame beauty, I’ve got to admit that technology and innovation make this particular bike a sight to behold.

Enter the Infinito CV, a welcome addition to Bianchi’s 125th year in cycling manufacture. She is eye-catching, as Bianchis are known to be, but what is extraordinary is the frame material used called Countervail. What it is can be pretty much summed up as a vibration-cancelling material that is not parasitic (i.e. it doesn’t have to latch on to something, thus adding to instead of being its own entity).

The material is referred to as “viscoelastic” (which I would translate to “goopy rubber-like”) and it can be found in different points of the fork and frame, the product of which has been tested on roads much like those found on the major cycling tours. It has many aerospace NASA applications, which can also be found in sports (such as tennis and snowboarding), machinery mounts and on aircraft noise isolation panels.

It seems kind of fitting that the oldest cycling company in existence is at the helm, making the progression to a frontier.
