Bike of the Week – Canyon Speedmax CF

I like looking at concept bikes but they turn me off. It’s like someone with a lot of plastic surgery and silicone: they may look good but you don’t know if they’ll be weird zombie silicone dolls when they pop off.

All I know is that the Red Dot Design Awards have been looking for cutting-edge design and found it in Canyon’s Speedmax Concept. I was looking at the picture and it was a computer-generated design. ‘Ok…’ I thought. ‘That looks fake.’

But you look at the Canyon website and it is as real as can be.

The Speedmax was designed with a couple of ideas in mind (probably a lot more, but I’m paraphrasing): front and side wind tunnel testing and aerodynamics. They tested the bike with lateral winds because, hell, you aren’t always going to be going against the wind now, are you? It is a mistake quite a few have made and the riders are the ones who suffer for it.

Yeah, and I can’t say ‘no’ to a pretty bike. Just can’t.
