Bike of the Week – Mando Footloose

An electric foldie has come among us, folks, and it’s called the Mando Footloose. This is a concept that was originally sold in South Korea but has made its progression outwards, for sale in other countries. It was designed by Mark Sanders, who trained as a mechanical engineer at the Imperial College in London and at Rolls Royce.

The interesting thing about the Footloose is that it is very minimalistic. To the point that it has no external drive train. Yep, no chain. It’s a pedelec, so you can pedal to increase your own output by pedaling or you can leave it to the machine to take you along. It needs a three-hour charge for a full battery and I’ll have to admit, it’s got some other cool features.

It has an onboard display, which also doubles as a key. When it is not in place, the motor will not work. From that same display, you can manually change gears when you are going up hills or it can do it automatically.

Top speed is 15.5 mph/25 kph and can get between 18-27 miles on a charge on a 250w motor. The downside is that it weighs a whopping 47.8 lbs so it’s a good thing it’s a rollie.
