Kali Maraka Road Helmet Review

Company:

The Kali Maraka Helmet presents an unprecedented combination of protection, ventilation and weight. Every part of the Maraka R is intricately designed and constructed, representing the next step in helmet evolution.

Kali Maraka Road Helmet

Kali's Composite Fusion Plus technology found in the Maraka R utilizes varying densities of EPS foam molded into specific shapes which very effectively spread an impact away from your head over a larger area of the helmet. Additional Bumper Fit System foam pads provide extra impact absorption and a custom-fit feel. Finally, Supervent technology allows the use of massive vents, increasing ventilation and impact absorption efficiency. Since frontal impacts are the most common in cycling, Supervent technology adds a reinforcing structure to each frontal vent, which again spreads impact energy over a larger area.

Kali Supervent Technology

The fit of the Kali Maraka R helmet is excellent. Through the use of comfortable crosslink polymer material in the Bumper Fit System, excellent ventilation, and chassis-mounted retention straps, it's easy to forget there's a helmet on your head. A nice touch is the cam-locking chin strap adjuster, making fine-tuning of the straps tension simple and fast.

Troubleshooting with Di2 Rear Derailleur and New Wheel

Di2 Rear Derailleur Troubleshooting with Rear Wheel

Di2 Rear Derailleur Overshifts Slightly

The derailleur may be auto shifting because the Di2 system overshifts slightly to make the shift faster and smoother, especially at the extremes of the cassette. Then it settles down into the right position a couple of seconds later.

Cassette Can Change Position on New Wheel

A new wheel set is what can cause a problem. The position of the cassette left to right is slightly different on each manufacturer’s hubs. So, every time you change wheel sets you should re tune the rear derailleur. With a new rear wheel, the cassette can sit slightly further inboard then with the previous wheel. Just reset your limits and tune your indexing and you are good to go.

How to Do a Bike Wheelie

How to wheelie:

Trust Your Rear Brake

make sure your back brake is not just working, but working really well. You can help yourself by adjusting your saddle to a middle position, which will keep your center of gravity lower and help with your balance.

Make sure you use a low or lower gear, the lower the better. Begin at a slow or rolling speed and keep your weight central.

Starting Position with Pedals at 2 O' Clock

Starting Position with Pedals at 2 O' Clock

Turn your cranks and position your pedals to the 2 o’clock position. Push down hard on the pedal and simultaneously pull up on the handle bars. It will take a few attempts to find out how quickly and easy the front end comes up.

Start off cautiously. As you get better get closer to that balance point. You are trying to lift the front wheel to a point where it takes the minimum effort to stay balanced on the rear wheel. Once you find this balance point, the back brake is your friend. Pull it full and it will stop your back wheel dead. The aim is to find the balance point and keep it by dabbing the rear brake and pedaling harder.

Turn Handlebars for Side Balance

Once rear balance is in control, work on side balance. Use your knees, feet, and body weight. Turn the handle bars in opposite directions.

Getting Ready to Buy Your First Bike

You’ve determined you want a bike but how do you buy one?

There a few things to do to make the process as smooth as possible. Start by asking yourself a few questions to help determine what kind of bike is right for you?

1- What’s your experience level? Are you new to the sport or a seasoned rider?

2- How will you use the bike? for fun? fitness? go out on the weekends and be competitive?

3- How much do you want to spend? There’s a wide range of prices for good reasons.

As the price increases, bikes get lighter, have a better ride quality (which means when you are out on the road you will feel less vibrations), and the braking and shifting will get smoother and more precise.

The more you invest up front in a bike, the more it will be able to grow with your experience level, which means you can upgrade the components instead of buying a whole new bike.

Which Size Bicycle Wheel Is Better: 27.5 vs 29er

Well, there's a lot of choice these days when you want to look at what mountain bike to buy. Full suspension, hardtail. Aluminium, Carbon. How much travel? And of course wheel size.

Wheel Size

Today we've come to the woods on a 29" wheeled carbon bike and 27.5" alloy bike and we're going to see what is the most fun to ride.

So we're on the mid sized wheel orange five now, the first thing we notice is how easy and quick it accelerates. Back on a Specialized Enduro 2 9 now. It's immediately obvious that I've got a lot more bike underneath me, both in wheel size and wheelbase. That added length in that wheelbase really helps when you're cornering.

So, I'm back on the 27 and a half, those people used to riding a 26" wheeled bike, jump on a 27, it doesn't feel a million miles away. Feels quite a familiar riding experience, so you get that same spritely nature from the 27 as you do with a 26, so yea it's a good thing.

Well, been out for a good chuck of the day today on two very different bikes. Two bikes that are aimed to do pretty much the same sort of thing, which is go outside, ride fast, have fun in the woods, at the hills.

The Enduro, the thing that you notice about this is that its a lot of bike, its a 160mm 29er. This bike here 27 and a half pounds it can do pretty much everything you want it to do. It's not maybe as nimble as the orange was, so when it gets really tight, yea it's probably a little bit slower but it certainly makes up for it, in just its sheer speed it can carry through into sections.

Where as the 29er, really flat as you when things get fast and rough, the orange and its twenty seven and a half guise makes you work a little bit more to get the most out of it. Is it fun? yea definitely. Is it more fun than the 29er? I'm not so sure, I think both bikes do the same job just a little bit differently but they're both a lot of fun.
