Some leaks may not show up until the engine reaches a specific temperature, but the mothod described above will spot the vast majority of coolant leaks with the engine 'cold'. Mine went in the van not too long ago and it would leak from the bottem edge of the head and go over to the water pump. The only way in new for sure it was that, was i filled up the system and let the van warm up and just watched the front of the motor and eventually it would piss out there and because i had AC it would hit the bracket and fall down on the water pump.
