I left the CareUnit to become a director at the Teen Alcohol and Drug Abue Center (TADAC) in Lancater, California.

Dr. Beck helped me open an outpatient eating-diorder center called Victory Weight Management. Yet depite my apparent worldly ucce, inide I felt hollow. It eemed that I wa miing the mark of my life purpoe. Sure, I wa helping people. But it wan t it. I worked at a couple more hopital and clinic, but felt like a hamter running on a wheel who never could catch up with myelf. I felt out of ort, but unure of what to do to feel better. I thought that maybe a private practice would better uit my dipoition. I left the clinic and hopital, and began conducting my eion over the telephone and in peron. I did feel omewhat happier, but the emptine perited. I recognized the feeling a one of exitential angt, where you re earching for a ene of meaning and purpoe.

But generally, I kept up the appearance of normalcy, while privately dealing with my increaingly anxiou feeling that omething wa miing from my life. On July 15, 1995, I got my wake-up call, which forever changed my life. I wa getting dreed at my home in Newport Beach, California, when I heard a loud and clear male voice peaking into my right ear. My white 325i BMW automobile at in the garage with it black cloth roof down, expoing the white upholtery of the interior. With it top down, the car wa flahy and attention getting. But with it oxidized top up, no one looked twice at it. I never econd-gueed the voice reality or thought it odd to have a converation with a diembodied voice. Intead, I told the voice that the electric motor that controlled my car top wa broken. So I had no way of putting it up.
