George 1.0 out of 5 stars The general review book (Rapid Preparation for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam by Lindeburg) was very helpful and really all that I needed to pass. I didn't know it at the time, but the general review book covered everything that was on the mechanical-discipline afternoon section as well. I completed that book, then started reviewing this specific review book. The solutions were poorly explained. Other reviews mentioned a lot of errors. When I didn't get the correct answer it was extremely frustrating because I didn't know if I was wrong or if the book's solution was wrong. The questions themselves were far too difficult. The questions on the actual exam were ten times easier. There's really no point in buying this book because it's just going to stress you out and make you think that the exam is going to be more difficult than it actually is. Just buy the general review book I mentioned above (the one by Lindeburg) and focus on that. Become familiar with the supplied reference handbook. Remember that the answers to every question on the exam are hidden somewhere in the 200-something page reference handbook. All the exam questions are only one or two steps and if you have the correct formula in front of you, they only take about a minute to plug into your calculator. The most difficult part is finding the correct formula and understanding what each variable represents.All were helpful in their own way. I would not purchase this manual without the FE review manual, unless you can get the background material from other textbooks. I had been away from school for 19 years and needed every bit of help.

This was the only reference that helped prepare me for the more complex problems in the second half of the ME exam. This was material that was not covered by the FE review manual, but the formulas were in the NCEES reference handbook in the back (ME section) so the questions were fair game. I used this manual during the last month prior to the exam to really hone in on the second half. Taking practice exams was painful because of the 4 or 8 hours, but for me it was the best way to prepare because I developed an internal clock so that I knew when I had to move on when getting stuck on a problem. It best simulated the exam and it helped pinpoint areas that I needed to review. The NCEES sample exam was probably more consistent with the exam and the PPI version was a bit too hard, but it definitely helped get me ready. With all the hours that I put into preparing for the exam, it was well worth the extra training to make sure that I was over-prepared. My only gripe is that some of the questions in the exam, particularly the second of the two exams, had questions in which the formulas to solve them were not in the NCEES reference handbook, which made it impossible and discouraging to try to answer them. The book needs to be more up to date with the reference handbook to earn 5 stars. Nonetheless, I passed the exam and was grateful that this book was available.I took the ME version in the afternoon. The questions on this book are harder than the actual exam. My study was more focused on the general version of the exam and this book as a supplement. I didn't work on the whole book. It gives you an idea of what area ME exam questions will cover.However, this does little to discuss the problems; merely giving solutions and pulling equations out of thin air. If you can identify the equations great, but if you forgot some since you had it in college, the equations may seem a bit foreign. This book is on the smaller side of reviews that I have seen at about 90 pages.

It only covers the ME specific afternoon test, and even then only gives answers, not explaining at all. Additionally, there are some errors in the printings. Only section that was useful from this manual was springs, gears and fasteners.which are actually pretty straightforward plug in questions on the examAfter looking back though it after the exam I think it is a great reflection on the type of question you will have to answer. I passed easily but save yourself the stress on the exam day and go in well prepared. That is what my other friend did and he new after the first section that he passed the test. With this and the main book you should pass easily.I think to some studiers this manual could be more thorough as it is only about 100 pages but to review the primary points of your Mechanical education, its dead on. Plenty of good examples and practice problems as well. Bring on the PE!I requested a return once I saw the content.This book is out of date, so don't wast your money on it.
