The museum is much bigger than might be expected in a town the size of Whitby, and it is packed with exhibits and paintings. It has an outstanding fossil collection, lots of information on local geol. Absolute little gem and well worth a visit it has something for everyone from prehistoric geology to the artefacts of the present, we got list in there for hours and down stairs is another little gem. Visit charming towns like Hutton-le-Hole and Whitby to see the medieval architecture and the North York Moors National Park for a dose of windswept nature. Spend some free time in Whitby to explore on your own. Very well managed in these strange times, we all felt very safe. Highly recommend a visit. It is full of fascinating collections and information about fossils, dinosaurs, jet, ships and more general information about the history of the area. The only downside was that the cafe was not open and it was a wet day. We would probably have stayed longer if we'd had a break in walking round - there was a lot to see. We are pleased that you enjoyed the museum. We have worked hard to put safety measures in place for the museum reopening.

A totally fascinating museum, great for a damp day, in the centre of a beautiful park. There is something for everyone here from geology and fossils to ships and the voyages of Captain Cook.
