It is significantly sturdier than any I have owned before, the bulk of which were too plastic, too chinzty, too cheap, and too prone to breakage. Perhaps the greatest feature (aside from its good looks and durability) is the simplicity of use. I only found one other machine on the market which has a removable water source for easy filling (and that particualr coffee maker is in my pantry, no longer in service.) I can't stress enough how important this feature is. There is nothing more annoying than having to fill the carafe and then pour that water into the coffee machine. Having a removable chamber which gets filled and returned to the coffee maker is far more convenient than trying to pour something into the machine itself. The coffee is HOT!!! And, unlike some of the others who posted reviews here, I have never had any issues with leakage. I also have not had difficulty in cleaning out the carafe. My hand fits easily inside of it. As for the appearance.There is no huge amount of jutting out like my previous machines. This one sits nicely against the wall and looks very attractive in my kitchen. No, there is not a clock or timer but it makes coffee so fast that those items are not really necessary. (I used to get annoyed at my old machine and timer because the clock would have to be reset every time I unplugged and moved the unit to clean the counter.) If dont feel like preparing coffee in the morning, just set it up the night before and push the button in the morning. You will have hot coffee in under five minutes. It is a keeper!Start with the best beans you've found and grind them to an even coarse texture. I'm using a Rancilio Rocky dosserless grinder, and it's flat-out capable from espresso to vacuum. Still, the real deal is in the cup.I have had this machine for nearly five years. There is NO bitter taste with coffee--there is no heater to allow evaporation. The carafe is self-contained--make your coffee and take the 'pot' with you. This is the best drip coffee maker. Fast, easy and great coffee taste. While I was cruising around Norwegian and Swedish countries we stopped in one department store on one day trip--and there were thirty or forty Bosch coffeemakers on the shelves. AFAIK, any ten- or twelve-cupper can make less than a full pot--ya put in less water, ya get less coffee. (My coffeemaker is a ten-cupper, and every day I fill it with water to the four-cup line and make what Braun considers to be four cups.) The model range is quite large and they are very reliable. I use mine 3 or 4 times a day, every day (i drink 2 or 3 espressos per day and my wife may have 1 with steamed milk or cream) and it has served me well for 3 years now. I think it helps maintain good coffee flavor, as opposed to resting on a burner. It makes 2 to 10 cups. It's stainless steel too; matches our kitchen appliances. These make the best cup of coffee IMO. It has a button that you push if you're having 1-3 cups of coffee. After dealing for decades with the shortcomings of various Krups, Braun, Melitta, and a few miscellaneous others, we've found a drip coffee maker that is the most satisfactory. The coffee it makes is quite rich and nicely hot for drip, and the machine itself has been quite durable and easy to clean for almost two years now. My wife uses it every day, while I'll drink an occasional cup.
Lavazza Il Perfetto (the pre-ground version of Lavazza Club) has been my favorite espresso blend since it became available last year. I like it better than Illy, and it's much less expensive. The later drawback is a function of the fact that it keeps boiling water in reserve at all times (this is also why it makes such good coffee). The home unit generally produces better coffee than their commercial machines that you often see in restaurants. (Actually, I think this has more to do with the fact that many restaurants just don't know how to make a good cup of coffee than anything else. Perhaps restaurants just tend to assume that many people just don't like good coffee.) If you go that route, do not buy a cheap one. The cheap ones are made of thin glass and do not insulate heat very well at all. Coffee always comes out best when the water is as hot as possible while the grounds are being soaked (this is exactly why the Bunn is such a good machine). However, heat dissipates very quickly through thin, transparent glass. Even if you get one with thick glass, the coffee will come out much better if you wrap a towel around it while the grounds are soaking. Also be sure to press the plunger down slowly and to a slight angle to avoid causing the carafe to explode. I've heard of this happening to other people. Especially for brewing 2-3 cups of coffee. I'll be on the hunt this weekend and I'll keep your recommendations in mind. I found a new one with the leftovers of someones yard sale and nabbed it for free. I have a single cup size, and also a large contrabass size in Eb (with apologies to Gerard Hoffnung). And it has not disappointed in any of those regards, as well as being one of the most cleverly and friendly designs of any coffee maker I've used. It is constructed of solid brushed aluminum, that doesn't show fingerprints, coffee stains. The water filling container is removable (always a problem with vacuum carafe coffeemakers) and everything fits very precisely. The only drawback is that the carafe is a bit difficult to clean and requires a bottle brush. Even then, some residual stale coffee taste may be there; I discovered that it is in the gasket that seals it to the lid, not the carafe, so that must be dried off with a tea towel to ensure full fresh coffee flavour. And it will make fast (and very hot) flavorful coffee while being the most stunning thing on your countertop!
The makers themselves never really seem to wear out, rather I get tired of them or their inadequacies - too slow, too ugly, I'm just over it - always something. This thing is by far the best looking and the smartest design. The way you put the water in is simple and ingenius. It automatically shuts off after brewing, and stores the coffee in a sealed canister - again great!! And again, I can't stress enough how beautiful it is!! My problem with it is this - mine came completely disfunctionable. I put the water in and out it immediatly leaked, all over my counter. I waited so long for this thing (back ordered at the time), the thought of another long wait was unbearable. Long story short, I fixed it and it now works perfectly, and I'm really happy. It was very challanging however to repair - got quite the education to the innerworkings of coffee makers. Every single part inside was disconnected from where it should go.. Bottom line - Porsche hit a home run. Bosch put it together in a way the needs improvement, or sombody somewhere should reexamine shipping and packaging standards - especially for the retail price. He also through in a grinder for my troubles. Good guy, good company, great followthrough! No one ever can quite guess what it is. 10 of 10 like to know where we got it.I saw it on the Today Show and then purchased it from Amazon.How did Bosch overlook the necessity of having a timer and a clock display on their slick designed coffee maker. But I'm a snob who wanted the name of a very reputable German maker who, by the way, makes the most durable products on the market, such as washers, dryers and their famous vacuums. I used it for puree's. It does a great job. You don't have to worry about it leaking like the cheap ones. I can't wait to do more baking with this great machine. I need to learn how to mix the ingredients when making a cake. The instructions on how to add them aren't very good. I've always enjoyed the George Foreman grills. When it's too cold out to use a proper BBQ, or you just don't want to take the time, a GF grill is just the ticket. The jumbo model included with this combo is big enough for the whole family, or allows you to make extra ahead for lunch the next day. But the real gem is the rotisserie, and is where I was most surprised. If you enjoy whole roast chicken from one of the restaurant chains or your local grocery, you'll be pleasantly surprised when you're able to make it at home -- with the added benefit of controlling everything that goes into it.
