FamilyForce6 1.0 out of 5 stars I installed these in my Ryobi hand planer and resumed the monumental task of stripping down hand rail balusters from my deck. These were noticeably duller than the high strength steel (hss) blades that came with my Ryobi. Going to return them. I tried the magnetizing test that another reviewer mentioned and it immediately magnetized. So maybe the company is just selling hss blades and trying to pass them off as tungsten carbide. Either way, I say you should stay away.Annie went to great lengths to fix the problem. Well the new Blades arrived to today, I'm happy to report that they now CARBIDE as ordered. Mistakes happen and when a company admits and then goes out of it's way to fix the problem, that's worth more to me than 5 stars. Also the customer service deserves 5 Stars as well. I would recommend these based on those facts alone ! (also matching blades to my old ones confirms fit and finish and they passed my magnet test!) Original Review: I received this today, and they looked like plain steel blades. I tried a magnet and they were highly magnetic. Also I was able to magnetize a blade very easily.My original Carbide Blade has very low magnetic attraction and is un-magnetizable.So order these if you can tell the difference. Carbide is heavier, glass-like and much stiffer than high-speed-steel.Only reason giving 4 out of 5 stars is because I was shorted 2 blades, only recieved 8 blades in my 10 pac of blades ordered.I typically use makita blades(love them) but wanted to try something cheaper. BIG MISTAKE! trying to plane maple these were dull in a matter of 10-15 passes. After about 30 feet of planing painted pressure treated deck, the blades were totally worn down to the point where the roller holding the blades was rubbing the deck. Changed to second set of blades with the same results. Planer got so hot I burned my fingers trying to change the blades. May have contributed to the demise of the planer the next day.Did know had a reversed blade.I normally don’t write reviews but these blades are awful.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. MrVideo 4.0 out of 5 stars The only bad thing is the Bosch typical badly designed case. This is my second Bosch Kit and the cases in both are ummm MEH. With this Bosch kit, you MUST remove the brackets from the fence to get everything in the case. To add insult to injury, there is no designed place in the case for the brackets. They just rattle around and fly wherever. I expected better from Bosch. All that said, running this tool down a swollen door using its solid fence attached at front and rear of the plane made for a quality job even for someone without experience with a powered planer (me). After using it on two doors (while they were hung), I would never get one of those design that doesn't have two attach points like this Bosch unit has, doesn’t allow dust collection on both sides like this Bosch unit has or doesn’t have the 3 degree fence pad like this Bosch unit has. Those features are awesome. I just don't like the case and was miffed at having to fix the casing mid-job (see below). YMMV P.S. in addition to the poor kit case design for the fence, one of the four mounting holes on the unit had a misaligned hole in the plane body casing. I had to stop everything, take it to the shop and use a Dremel to carefully grind away the casing. See photo attached.
In my previous experiences, Bosch has been consistently one of the strongest tool brands, both robust in its performance, and polished in the details. On my first order, I received a planer that looked like it had been open already. It had a sticky residue on some of the plane surface, and some staining on the bag. I sent it back, and requested a replacement. The second unit also has this sticky residue on the plane surface. It also looks like it has some light grinding marks. When I started to plane, I noticed that the dust collection quickly (after a few passes) stopped working, and there was sawdust blown all over my table. When I looked in the bag, there was a large amount of loose thread all over the place (picture). It essentially acted as a web, only allowing a little amount of shavings into the bag. It clogged pretty quickly. After cleaning out the bag and cutting all the thread out, I got started again. I worked with the planer for about a minute or two, and the bag started shooting off while cutting. After shooting off maybe 4-5 times, I've decided it's not a matter of how well I'm seating the bag on the planer, but it simply doesn't fit very well. So now my planer has a couple layers of tape wrapped around the planer port to increase the OD for a more snug fit. Now that I've cleaned the planer surface, clipped the bag threads and taped the output port, it seems to work ok. Since I had a rocky start to using the tool, I decided to measure the cut accuracy a couple ways. First the consistency of cut depth from the left side to right side (most important in my book), and then the actual depth itself. There are a couple nice features as mentioned in other reviews (like the lock-off switch and the parking rest). The machine feels pretty solid and and does seem to cut reasonably well. The planer has ample power and has so far not left any burn marks.
The surface finish isn't the best I've seen, but adequate for what I'll be using it for (doors, thinning small boards, flattening lathe blanks, etc.). But I would expect this overall level of quality from a cheaper brand.This experience has definitely altered my perception of Bosch tools, and I'll be doing more thorough reviews before considering them in the future.Not sure it will hold up for commercial use. 3). Non-drive side exhaust port will not support the chip collector, it blows off. This is the plastic port. The aluminum port on the drive side works well. In effect this does not have 2 working ports. Design issue with Carry Case: The guide will not fit into the case unless it is disassembled. Not very convenient or user friendly. If it wasn't for the above issues I would rated 5 stars.Case could use improvement. The 3-degree shoe attachment makes getting the correct relief angle on the door edge much easier, and once the planing work is done, a groove in the middle of the sole plate facilitates cutting a nice bevel on the planed edges. Note that it does take a bit of finesse to get it right. The start and end of each cut are a bit hairy, as only one end of the sole plate is supporting the tool. I found it best to take very light passes, with the tool set at its lowest adjustment. In a few minutes I had the door edge the way I wanted it. The case doesn't hold the assembled tool, and this will be a hindrance for a contractor. For a homeowner, it's not a big deal to have to reassemble the guide assembly and dust catcher each time you use it, but contractors should be aware of this annoyance. The price is good for what this tool is, and I justified buying it by considering how much it would cost to have a guy come in and do this on a few sticky doors in my house. Update: I used the tool on my second door today and had a thought that maybe I could just detach the guide from the tool but leave the guide assembled and slide it somehow into the case.not a chance.
Shame on you Bosch, you know better than to make a case like that where users have to disassemble the guide to store it. The tool is still top notch though, so I won't let the case design bother me.Bosch usually make very good equipment and this is no exception. It is somewhat heavy but I like that as it stays put when planing a thin piece of material. I found, after some practice runs, that I could plane a piece and not gouge the ends which saves on setup time. The unit also has a swivel where the cord joins the planer and that helps keep it out of the way without bending the cord. I have not done enough pieces to comment on how accurate the depth dial is but it appears to be pretty good so far. I like that the unit comes with a shavings bag and can be adapted to a vacuum if necessary. I'd buy this unit again !Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Deja la madera practicamente lisa, al cepillar una tabla de grandes dimensiones se me hizo un poco complicado porque deja muy marcados los rebajes laterales, aunque configures la profundidad al minimo. Es como si trazaras una linea como una carretera en la madera, y luego eliminar los bordes se complica porque haces mas pasadas y formas otros bordes y al final se hace un desmadre. Ya estuve practicando para eliminar esos bordes tienes que levantar la maquina a pulso 1 o 2 mm mientras la pasas por la madera y luego terminas con una buena lijada. Lo que no me gusto es que la maquina se calienta muchisimo despues de unos minutos de uso continuo, si tocas la parte lateral de aluminio te puedes quemar. La bolsa si viene de muy mala calidad y se deshila muy facil. En general si te facilita mucho trabajar la madera, hasta ahora sigue afilada la cuchilla.Sorry, we failed to record your vote.

Please try again The original blades looked pretty rough but still cut amazingly well. I figured anything that looked as bad as they did after the work out we gave them, should get replaced even if they could still cut, just on general principles. It took almost no time to remove and re set the blades with the new edge showing and they went back in and worked just like new, without adjustment. They self align as you tighten up the clamps.
