When I went to raise the router, I unlatched it as normal and then turned the wrench to raise it and nothing happened. So I looked under the table as I turned the wrench to raise it to see what was going on. The snap ring was out of the grove and was up on the shaft. So there was no way it would raise, just the snap ring would go higher on the shaft. I backed the shaft out of the base and remove the snap ring, put the nylon washer on and then the collar screwed the shaft back up and then tightened set screw in the collar.https://labroclub.ru/blog/4-h-officer-manual
I did leave out that I filed a flat on the shaft so as to have a good seat for the set secrew and replaced the stock set screw with a locking one. Works great and will last forever. This is nice, I wonder if I can retrofit mine. Now all you need to convert it is the long screw. I just looked at my fixed base and it is the same base as the R1165 but has a shot screw. So I think all you would need to do is call a Bosch parts dealer and order the screw and you would then have an under the table base that will adjust from the top. Good luck. I bought my shaft collar and nylon washer today. I got busy making some end grain cutting boards and a kerfmaker today. That upgrade will happen very soon. I couldn't figure out why my lift suddenly stopped working. I played with it for quite a while but just assumed that it maybe wore out. Started pricing out other lifts.expensive for what my time on the machine is. I will be stopping at Ace Hardware tonight on my way home. Can't wait to try the fix. I too thought a collar would be a better design so I was pleased to see your post from years ago. (Bosch should pay heed.) However it the grip that base has on the router was not so tight, this wouldn?t be an issue. As it is though, I have difficulty pulling the router out of the base and then putting it back in. I tried smoothing out the imperfections in the base and the router housing with steel wool but it?s still very tight. (Note, the plunge base works very smoothly but cannot be used with the router table.) On a whim I removed the base from the router table plate and it seems to slide more freely so perhaps it?s twisting the base a little. I then went back to the Bosch instruction manual and read that this other base, i.e. RA1165, can be used with the table. Before I purchase one I thought I?d ask you if you have any difficulty with the way the router slides or moves in this base. My personal opinion is this is a waste of money, it is super easy to adjust the 1617's from under the table. Still I can understand why some people would need this option.It is not the RA1165, it is the new fixed based that is coming with the bosch 1617 routers. Simply put, it is the basic same thing, but it comes with the base plate and the handles. Works nicely too! Basically the RA1161 is meger of the RA1165 and the original fixed base. When I got mine, I simply removed the handles and the base plate, and attached it to my router table using the same screw holes that I had the standard fixed base on previously. As an FYI, that RA1165 WAS posted on the website. It looks like they have removed it since all their new 1617 models come with the RA1161. Also, the vendor who is selling that base, I have made a few purchases from, and they have all gone VERY smoothly.

Since I made my initial setup which is usually pretty close, run a test piece, release the adj.Just make sure you relock the height adj. lever.make sure to unplug power for safety. Fabulous!I have had this table for 15months and I am giving up on it. I have two issues that plague my usage. First, the inserts do not sit flush with the plate. This results in inevitable movement whenever a smaller piece moves across the insert. Second, the fence doesn't secure well. It is incredibly frustrating to take the time to set it just right to do a set of identical cuts on several pieces, only to be able to tell that the cut has drifted during the process. I get burned by this time and time again. There's a lot of accessories with this table - from the feather boards to the bit height adjuster to the circle template - and the built-in storage pockets do an okay job of holding them all - they fit in nicely for shipping, but getting them all back in after use just didn't happen for me. A minor inconvenience considering it's a more than adequate, less than professional piece of equipment for the price. Great for the hobbyist, for sure.Also I did not get any large washers to put together the fence and feather boards (all my washers were the same size (small)) and do not work with setting up the feather boards to the fence. Therefore I cannot use them at all. I will have to go out and purchase washers that will work. The table does work with my Ryobi plunge router, but it is a little off center. I think I will be purchasing the fixed Bosch router that will align better and also adjust the bit level from the table top. Other than not having the large washers I am pleased with the cabinet style router table. I have used it several times during the week since I have purchased it. If Bosch sees this review maybe someone can send me out the correct washers so I can use the feather boards:)This is a really nice portable (but heavy) table with everything you need. It even has shims that you can place behind the out fence to use it as a jointer. The only two things that are slightly annoying are. 1) the tool storage in the legs is marginally too small.It's very easy to insert and remove the router when you want to go mobile.Installing it was a pain, and when they say don't overtighten the screws, well - you can't help it if the threads have for some reason already been screwed up.
My back left screw head just spun from the get-go (and didn't tighten) and the plate adjuster is a pain until you get it. Taking the router out from beneath to change a bit really isn't as bad as some mention on Youtube and in reviews. Just know where the Router clicks and you'll be fine.
