Even reliable brands like Bosch are susceptible to long-term wear and tear or an unforeseen part failure. Sometimes the problem is obvious. A worn-out seal, for example, will leave a puddle on your kitchen floor. But other Bosch dishwasher problems aren't so obvious. Two of the most common are a soap dispenser failure and the dishwasher not filling.http://indousmedia.com/images/bosch-maxx-plus-wfo-2460-manual.xml

If I run a finger over a spot, it feels greasy, and I can push it away somewhat, revealing the surface below. Also, the salt refill indicator hasn't worked for the last 2 years. Perhaps related to the poor cleaning issue. Looking for advice on how to isolate the fault and figure out what to do.NVQ Level 2 electronics manufacturers training courses. Verified Hi, I'm Daniel welcome to JustAnswer, Im reviewing your question now and will post back with your reply momentarily When you salt isnt working in what way doesnt it work. How often do youhave to top the salt up. Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago Hi Daniel. The salt refill indicator doesn't prompt for a refill. Now I look at my notes, actually the last time I saw it ask for a refill was Jan 2014, so an issue for longer than I said. I refill the salt every now and then, but when I notice it isn't cleaning well - not on any particular schedule. So difficult to say how much it is using. I'd guess I end up giving it a complete fill of salt once a year overall. UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago The most common cause of this fault you have is a faulty regeneration valve.https://www.informaquiz.it/petrgenis1604790/status/flotaganis25032022-0613
As this opens up and allows a small bit of salt into the water softner. These can fail and too much salt enters and causes this fault you have here. When these fails you need to remove the left hand side panel of the dishwasher and there you will see the filling chamber. At the bottom there you will see the regeneration valves. These are 2 small coils with wires going to it. You need to replace them. Then run a dishwasher cleaner through it as this will clean all the insides. Then top the salt chamber up and see how it goes from there. That should sort the fault from there for you. Regards Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago Thanks - that sounds very plausible.1. I've seen people talking about measuring resistance of valves etc with a multimeter. Is that worth doing here? (I have the machine open at the moment and I'm OK with basic electronics.) 2. The Bosch parts PDF says the left valve 00166875 is Valve-regeneration, right one 00166874 is Valve-outlet. Should I replace both, or just the regeneration one? 3. I've undone one of these valves before, actually, when investigating another problem. Perhaps I messed something up then. I remember undoing the screws, pulling on it a bit, to find water leaking out. I did it up again in a hurry! 4. Can I drain the machine before replacing the valves, or do I have to live with the water leaking as I work (and use a towel etc)? 5. Could a valve be the cause of the failed refill indicator also. I don't understand here: I would have thought there would be a sensor somewhere for that.? 6. Do I wait until after I've replaced the valves and seen if the fix works before I rate you? (Sorry, I'm a JustAnswer noob). UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago Normally as a rule we replace both at the same time. But if you wanted to you could just try the regeneration one as thats the one that usually fails. As to testing the valve yes you can.https://eastwestmacrobiotics.com/images/bosch-sgu53e75au-manual.pdf
It will be a high resistance reading in Kohms so set you meter to Kohms. But its not a case of the coil going open circuit but its the plunger inside which sticks open. So you can test the resistance and it will be fine but the plunger in there jas jammed. When you replace the valve make sure its unplugged as you dont want to work on it live. Now when you remove the valve water will leak out as the salt chamber and water softner will always have water in there so water will come out im afraid. But when you start it going again this will refill itself. As to rating you can do this when ever you are ready. Even if you rate now you can still ask follow up questions on this as that isnt an issue. Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago Thanks. Both valves measure about 2.3Kohm. A mechanical failure in the valve makes sense. Is it worth me removing the regeneration valve and seeing if I can unjam it with some wiggling? Also I'd be interested in your thoughts on my point 5 (sorry for asking a ton of stuff at once). UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago Yes try and remove them and give them a good clean out. Then refit them and run the dishwasher cleaner through it and see how it goes from there. As to point 5 sorry i missed that. Were the regen valves go if you look to the far right of the salt pot there you will see the reed switch as inside the salt pot is a lever with a magnet on it. The magnet reads on the reed switch on the outside so thats how it knows how much salt is in there. So check that and also check the lever inside the pot were you pot the salt as see if its stuck in there. Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago Ah yes, I see two yellow wires going to something low on the salt pot as you describe. Then hopefully there will be less leaking when I remove the valves.
UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago Good thinking as i usually flood the place when i do it. Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago haha. Thanks for following me along - appreciate your help. UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago Your very welcome. Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago Is there any way of forcing the machine to dump the water out of the tank on the left hand side? (Apparently the heat exchanger?) UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago Thats the filling and draining tank. No idea why they call it the heat exchanger. That water shouldnt effect the salt chamber as its just waste water. But to clear it look at the hoses underneath it and pull the hose 2nd in from the left. But place a bowl under there and it will drain the water out from there. Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago Hi again. Some more progress.I took the valves out. They were making a small grinding noise when I pushed the ends in, so I took them apart and cleaned them up a bit. Fingers crossed that helps: if not, I'll order new ones. There's no salt installed at the moment, and the low salt indicator is correctly showing that now:) (So I don't know what's going on there then.)I put it back together and ran it with Finish dishwasher cleaner. The machine ran OK, but there's now a small slow leak from the right valve. I'm thinking of removing it again, lubricating the O ring with some washing up liquid, and re-insert - does that sound sensible? (I'm wary of tightening the screws further: I don't want to mess up the threads.)Best wishes. Customer reply replied 3 years ago I've reinstalled the right valve, and the washing up liquid on the O ring helped a lot.But. I still have a small slow leak from the right valve.
I think this isn't the O ring - it is leaking through one of the holes for the screws that hold the valve in. I noticed this when I took the valve out. Putting the screw back in (without the valve) stopped the leak then, but with the valve, there isn't enough of a seal. Not sure what to do about this. Perhaps add some super glue at the bottom of the screw hole. Or some PTFE tape under the screw (well, under the valve, which is held down by the screw). Or ultimately perhaps the whole water softener needs replacing due to the punctured screw hole:( UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. If it's leaking from the screw part what I use is silicon. Put Some of that in the screw hole and on the screw and refit it. Leave it to dry for a few hours then retry it and see if that sorts it Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago OK, thanks. Customer reply replied 3 years ago Ah: figured out the cause of the leak. I goofed and used the wrong screws when reattaching the right valve. I used the similar but slightly longer and pointed screws that should hold the dishwasher to the kitchen worktop by mistake. Ooops. As you suggest, I've added sealant to the hole and the screw and refitted, using the correct screws this time. Hopefully the silicon sorts it with the correct screw in there. As yes the white film you have is more then like salt from there getting into the main wash tank due to the regeneration valve Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago Thanks:) UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago No worries, Your very welcome. Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago The right valve is still leaking, unfortunately.:(The leak is from the middle now, though, rather than the screw hole.
So I think the silicone in the screw hole probably worked, but there's another problem (perhaps with the valve O ring?).I'm thinking the best option now might be to move up a level and replace the water softener. I did find a chargeable Appliance Video on the topic of replacing the water softener but haven't bought it yet. UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago That's correct as the softener unit comes complete. But leave it with me as I'm out and about on the road today and when I get back later I will see what I can find on replacing the softener for you. As to do this you need to remove the complete metal wash tank from the base. It's a full strip down but the tank comes off in one piece when disconnected. Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago OK, thanks. Sounds challenging but I think I'm willing.I've had another go at stopping the valve from leaking, with more sealant. I'll test in a few hours and let you know results. UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago Ive found this link on Youtube so have a look at this and this should help you. I know it says heater replacment but its the strip down to do this as well. Click here If i find anything better i will post it on here for you. Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago Ive also found this aswell so have a look at that as well Click here Ask Your Own UK Appliance Question Customer reply replied 3 years ago Great, thank you:) UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago Your welcome. I ran our usual (65-75 degree) programme. Loaded a few saucepans, plastic plates and bowls which all have the white greasy coating from before. Machine ran OK, but the white coating remains.:(I'm not sure how confident I am about replacing the water softener, so I'm thinking through alternatives first. Two questions:1.
I wonder if the machine is actually fixed, but needs a few more runs to settle down. Wishful thinking, or might that be the case?2. I'm considering leaving the machine as-is, but switching to using tablets containing salt (eg Finish All In One). Do you think this would work. Does the water still go through the (suspected faulty) softener unit with these settings?Best wishes,Ashley. UK Appliance Technician: Daniel, Home Appliance Technician replied 3 years ago Glad to hear the leak has stopped now. As to the fault still i would run a few cycles as it may not clear it all stright away so worth trying a few hot washes with a cleaner in there first and see how that goes. But as to number 2 about the tablets then its well worth try the all in 1 tablets. You will need to clear the salt chamber out and then use the all in 1 tabs and see how that goes and alter the settings. Hopefully that will be better then trying to replace the softner unit as these can be a pain in the neck to do these.NVQ Level 2 electronics manufacturers training courses.
Fitting instructions could be improved but one can find online videos that show how to do it. Also works on a SHU machine (this is the model we have).Vielen Dank fur Ihr Feedback.
