Ooops!! they forgot to send the part and now it is over 4 weeks since problem began. Part is still under warranty but only a replacement part (not the original) is available. The stainless steel yields a wierd industrial metal smell afer a day or two of non-use. I tried running vinegar in it, no change. It was this way the first week and its still this way. And I do rinse off food before putting dishes in. Maybe steel is not suitable. Is there reaction with other metals that are being washed. Drying of items takes longer and most plastics in the top rack, ie, kids cups, don't dry at all. This is big pain as I have to dry them by hand to put them away. If you have kids then think twice about this, its a waste of time that isn't necessary with other washers.BTW the silverware doesn't get dry either. Another annoyance: The racks seem not to hold our particular type of dishes as efficiently as I expected either. Deep bowls like cereal bowls just don't seem to have a place. So they take up a lot of room. I agree with other reviewers about the constant odor unless you remove the filter frequently and clean it. Also, items in the top rack are never completely dry. There is always water and sediment left, even though I rinse all of my dishes before placing them in the dishwasher (which I should not have to do). However, the biggest problem is with the bendable plate and cup holders that create the rows in the top and bottom rack to hold your dishes in place. The little plastic parts that attach the flexible plate and cup holders to the top and bottom sliding racks constantly crack, snap and break!!!! When the plastic parts fail, you cannot use the plate and cup holders as they are no longer attached to the dishwasher racks. You just have the flat rack with no upright sections to hold your dishes. The little replacement parts are expensive as you need several sets to re-attach the flexible cup and plate holders to the racks. Half of the top rack and half of the bottom rack have these flexible holders and every one of them has broken. This is not due to excessive use either as this is a one person household. Also, the exterior panel where you select wash cycle is VERY sensitive. If you lean against the dishwasher while working at the kitchen counter, the dishwasher will turn on. This is just a very bad design and I speak from 3 years of aggravation and costly part replacements. I would swap this Bosch for a good old Maytag, Kenmore or GE model in a heartbeat!Please try again later. Also, the filter has to be taken apart frequently in order to clean out the debris or you have the odor of rotting food. The instruction manual does not mention how to take the filter apart - learned how to do this on a You Tube video. Frequent cleaning of the filter gets rid of the stink. Another design flaw. The trays are poorly designed and don't fit most current bowls, glassware etc. Thus bowls chip constantly from movement. It has an unusual metallic smell after cleaning. It cleans very unevenly. I have had it serviced twice, used the recommended detergents, cleaned it with vinegar etc. I would NOT purchase this. My prior Bosch was also poorly performing. If there are small bits of food that are still on the dishes those tiny bits plug up the little holes in the water spray arm. When that happens the dish washer leaves a gritty film on the dishes. If that grimmy film dries on the dishes they must be hand washed because it will not come off in another cycle of the dishwasher. That is annoying however its made worse by the fact that it is very hard to get the stuff out of the spray arm. Have some towels ready to catch the water. Now if you plug the dishwasher back in, the pump should not run But now comes the hard part - figuring out where the leak is coming from and fixing it. It could be from a hose, the drain pump, or the main pump. Bosch dishwashers are notoriously hard to work on, so I recommend calling in a professional DW repairman. For some reason I don't know why but Bosch seems to have the most complaints. Perhaps it is the most popular oven sold in that price point. As you mentioned this shattering has been going on for some time and I'm kind of surprised that an Attorney hasn't gotten involved and filed a class action suit. Both racks were used along with third flatware rack on top; just half of the usual size load. Everything came out great. A typical dishwasher is too big to handle the daily dishes for two people. I have heard about dishwasher drawers, but it I do have a crowd over, it would be too small. If there is a regular size dishwasher that can wash a half load, then I would have the best of both options. Any thoughts for a dishwasher that can do a half load and wash the dishes well? We have tried every timed setting there is on it and made sure the temperature was set to hot.I have a Maytag dishwasher that is only about 3 years old.
