First the connectors to the control module: It is possible to skip disconnecting the wires, but it requires juggling a half-open door and a wobbly control panel while you try to unclip the control module. There are plastic clips at both sides that need to be opened and then the module rotates free with a hinge at the upper side: Do not bend too far or you risk breaking off the clip. These are similar to the first set, but smaller. You can use your fingers to release them. It will look something like this: Then get out the soldering iron and resolder the joint. -The entire front panel assembly was a bit fussy going back in. There are metal tabs in the interior door panel that align to slots in the front panel frame. It helped to loosen the Torx screws along the length of the stainless steel interior panel to allow for additional wiggle room when aligning the front panel with the tabs. I am so glad that I kept looking for a solution. This was my first soldering job, but it seems to be holding up. My teenage sons especially thank you because dish duty just got much easier around here. I took mine apart and found the solder burnt out as well. I resoldered it and put it back together. On my model I found it pretty difficult to open the control module casing. In fact, I broke a few clips and wasn't able to completely close it upon reassembly. I have it going through a cycle now and hopefully (fingers crossed) the heating element will work. We have the SHE44C model (purchased in Oct 2006) so the workings were a little different but still close enough to get the job done. Your posting gave us the confidence to give the repair a try. As suggested above I took digital photos of the wiring prior to disassembling. I completed the repair in less than an hour. Thanks to all for posting this stuff on line. Between repair forums and YouTube videos I have been able to fix my furnace, snowmobiles, refrigerator and now my dishwasher. The Internet holds a vast amount of informative information. Take care. My only problem in effecting the repair was to not follow your instructions and remove only the upper door screws which allow the control module to detach from the rest of the door assembly. This worked for me on my Bosch SHE42L also and hopefully it stands up. I had a similar problem with the defrost on my fridge and soldered it a few times. Taking it apart was slightly different but we were able to fix the problem without calling in a repairman. We are so happy about having a properly working dishwasher now. Our dishwasher kept sticking at the one minute mark and would run for hours. It also wouldn't dry the dishes like it used to and it left a white film on the dishes. After applying this fix, the timer worked as designed, the dishes were dry and no white film.
Like others, my dishwasher was slightly different, but the steps pointed me in the right direction. I've never soldered anything before in my life so I went to Youtube to learn how. My joint wasn't as nice as the instructor's on Youtube, but it worked nonetheless. You saved me hundreds of dollars! It was purchased thru Sears and had 3 months left on the 5 year warrenty on the control board, so I paid the Sears call out fee, and directed the repairman thru your procedure.sure enough they are ordering a new control on warrenty.1 month delivery.I'm going to try to solder the burned joint in the mean time, but it is badly burned and I don't know if I can get a good electrical connection. Open the dishwasher, still dirty dishes, some suds at the bottom from the rinse agent, all because it wasn't heating the water hot enough. Sanitized light wouldn't come on at the end.Sure enough, the temp slowly rose from about 100 up to 135 at which point, roughly 20 mins later, the diagnostic run was satisfied and the drain cycle kicked in. Re-attached the front panel and then ran a Normal wash cycle which now finished in about 90 minutes, and the Sanitized light is now also back on. It is apparently not part of the recall. Your posting allowed me to diagnose and fully repair my dishwasher in less than 2 hours for free.Took me about 3 hours. Washer now works perfectly. Thanks for saving me the price of a new washer. Seems a lot of people have problems with these over rated over priced machines. My next appliance will be a Whirlpool. I'm disappointed that Bosch hasn't permanently fixed this problem by beefing up the relay or PC board.Cost me ?8 for a new soldering iron and ?2 for some solder and probably saved me ?300 - ?400 pounds. The longer term solution is to replace Bosch's poorly selected relay with a 12 Amp relay. I replaced mine with this relay: T7CV5D-12. The pictures and instructions above are quite excellent, just add a comment about replacing the relay with a better one. The one I listed in the previous post is 12-Volt, and would probably not have worked for me. Make sure to examine the original relay on your board. Replace it with a similar relay, just with a higher Amp rating. Sorry for the mix-up. Thanks for saving me the cost of a new control unit. In the interest of time I soldered the burned out terminal and wrote down the information from the relay. If the problem recurs I will order a larger relay before I take it apart. Pump Doesn't Work When you open your dishwasher only to find the bottom full of water, don't panic just yet. Check the drain line for kinks or twists and untwist them. The drain line runs from the bottom back of the dishwasher and connects directly into the sink's plumbing just above the P-trap underneath the sink. Because the dishwasher drains into the sink's plumbing, when the sink clogs, the dishwasher won't drain. Other issues that affect the pump include a clogged large object trap or filter, clogged sink or air gap. Large Object Trap Removal To check the dishwasher's filter, remove the utensil tray to access the large object trap found in the bottom center of the dishwasher just in front of the lower spray arm, surrounded by a square mesh screen. Grab the ring handle and move it a quarter turn counterclockwise to lift the large object trap out of the dishwasher. If it contains debris, turn it upside down and gently tap it until the debris falls out. Clean it by flushing with water. Remove the large mesh filter, clean and replace. Dishwasher Runs a Long Time A Bosch dishwasher that runs a long time could indicate a problem with your hot water supply.
When there is no hot water, the dishwasher will continue to run. The Bosch dishwasher does have a built-in heater, which serves to increase the water temperature supplied by your hot water line. You can avoid this problem before you wash by turning on the hot water and letting it run until it gets hot. Turn it off and restart your dishwasher. The cycle should complete once the water is hot enough. Rinse Cycle A rinse cycle that doesn't activate could indicate a clogged inlet filter. If you have hard water, calcium and magnesium can build up on the inlet filter and affect the water flow to the dishwasher. The inlet filter sits inside the end of the hose connector of the dishwasher's water supply line. The water supply line runs from the hot water valve under the sink to the front of the dishwasher's inlet valve behind the bottom kick panel on its left. Turn off the hot water before you unscrew the hose connection to access the filter. You'll need a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws on the bottom panel on either side of the kick panel to get at the connection. Unscrew the hose counterclockwise, but have a towel ready for water drainage when you pull the hose away. Pop the filter from the hose connector. If it's jammed inside it, use a flat-head screwdriver to get under its lip and lift out the filter. Clean with an abrasive cleaner and a toothbrush to remove mineral buildup. Reinstall in reverse of removal and don't forget to reopen the water valve fully. Spray Arm A lower spray arm that doesn't rotate during the wash and rinse cycles usually signifies that food debris could be caught inside it. After removing the bottom tray, remove the lower spray arm by lifting it up from the water supply unit it sits inside, wash and rinse thoroughly and gently pop it back into place. Periodic maintenance and cleaning will keep your Bosch dishwasher in tip-top shape.
Streaked or Dirty Dishes Glassware that comes out of the dishwasher streaked suggests that you used too much rinse aid in the dishwasher. Cut back on the amount of rinse aid in the next cycle to see if that fixes the problem. If your dishes don't come clean enough, you may not be using the correct or enough detergent. When utensils block the spray arms, ensure they move freely before starting the wash cycle. If you don't replace the large object trap properly, this can also affect the quality of the wash cycle. Do not overfill the dishwasher, as this can lead to improper cleaning and occasionally broken dishes. Simply rinsing them to remove major pieces of food should suffice. The dishwasher should work with the detergent to soak and remove food from your dishes. Or perhaps the buttons on the menu don't seem to be responding. Your first step should be resetting the dishwasher to see whether this solves the problem. Check the manual for your model, because some models may have a different reset sequence. Often, this soft reset will clear whatever has caused the error, and the dishwasher can go back to normal. Switch the circuit breaker for the dishwasher off and wait for about five minutes, then switch it back on.
This type of reset should clear out any communications that may have malfunctioned. Many of the problems you may come across can be resolved by this reset, so be sure to try it first. The test cycle runs the dishwasher on its normal cycle, and then reports back an error code to help you identify the problem. Instructions on running the Bosch SHE dishwasher test program vary from model to model, but it's usually accessed by a combination of holding down and pressing the existing buttons to initiate the cycle. Depending on the model, either one of the buttons will light up as an answer, or if the dishwasher has a display, a code will be shown. This fault code can be referenced in the manual to indicate what kind of error has occurred in the machine. Not only can it save you the cost of a visit, it gives you a better understanding of the problem if you do need to call in an expert for help. You can find comprehensive lists of Bosch dishwasher fault codes online or in your instruction manual. The most common cause is an error with the drain pump. If you're handy, you can use a multimeter to check whether the pump motor has continuity. If the motor has no power, or if it has power but does not run, you'll need to replace the entire pump. Other parts of the pump and impeller system may be malfunctioning, or the drain valve or hose could be plugged with debris. Check these and clean out anything that might be in the way. If yours isn't starting, first check to make sure that the door is properly shut and latched. There are sensors that require the door to be properly closed before the dishwasher will run. Problems with the control panel can also cause the dishwasher to be unable to start. In this case, try a soft or hard reset of the dishwasher and see whether that resolves the issue. If not, you may need an expert technician to come evaluate the problem. This is either a plug or defect in the inlet valve or buildup from minerals that prevents the flow.
Be sure to shut off the water to the dishwasher before investigation. Confirm that the water inlet valve is not plugged or otherwise malfunctioning. These arms can become plugged with food debris, preventing water from reaching the dishes properly. Remove any debris from the wash arms. Also, check the circulation pump to be sure it is working properly. If the water doesn't properly circulate, the dishes will not get clean. Standard parts are available from Bosch directly or from any hardware store that stocks Bosch items. Anyone handy enough to know how to use a multimeter should be able to troubleshoot many of these issues by themselves, making it easier if a repair person is needed.
