Appliance Tech-Care: ok move the slide to where is shows 2 flames, where the slide has what looks like a hole in it, then push in on the slide knob and tell me if it moves in further in that position Customer: nope, it clicks into place over that spot but doesn't depress at all (though I can see there is a spring behind it) - maybe there's a problem with the knob. Appliance Tech-Care: The knob is two pieces, the round part in the middle should push in and move in relation to the outside.Customer: It appears to me that the knob is a single plastic piece - pressing it doesn't do anything Appliance Tech-Care: when you move it over that hole in the slot can you depress the button a little more than you can in the other slot position. Customer: nope, not a mil Appliance Tech-Care: the way it works is, you move the knob to the 2 flame position, push in on the knob and press the switch to the I (on) position. It should create a spark and lite the pilot. You then hold the knob in for a minute and then when you release it the pilot should stay lit. Also are there wire attached to the switch.Customer: the nylon slide is on a spring and when depressed there is some resistance so I assume it is opening a gas supply somewhere inside Appliance Tech-Care: i think there is an issue with the valve. I think we have it down to how it should work, it just doesnt. I think if you push on the the white plastic on the left, it should supply pilot gas to the pilot.You DO have the gas turned on correct. Appliance Tech-Care: you should smell or hear gas when you depress the plastic slide on the left Customer: I assume you're correct. Appliance Tech-Care: Thats what I think. It works like any hot water heater, just a little more fancy on the method. You press the valve,lite the pilot, wait for the thermocouple to catch and release, pilot stays lit.
In this case, the water flow turns on the flow of gas and the pilot lites it. Just like mine does. I think the depressor back there is not opening the pilot gas Appliance Tech-Care: could there be any problem with you gas supply, maybe a shutoff somewhere else, you could crack the line and check that out Customer: I don't think there's a problem with the gas - the stove works fine (I tried it). A technician was ultimately called and identified two problems. First, the pilot light assembly had perished, probably weather-related given the unit is mounted on a west-facing wall and gets fierce sun and driving rain, cover notwithstanding. Second, the button on the sliding knob, which had been replaced at some stage some years ago, had in fact been replaced with the wrong part, it was a solid piece of pastic rather than being the depressable 'button'. Repairs now done (and the technician confirmed that they are the sort of repairs that could only be done by a qualified technician). Many thanks for your help. Learnt that the two side screws where the only thing holding it in which I will put new mounting because of this. Anyway. We heard this happen, got up straight away, went into the “rain” to fit the side lid back on. The Bosch did get water on the inside when we were doing this. I have not had time to look at this more deeply I am guessing there is a PCB electronic board in there that maybe fried because of the rain on it. But I wanted to ask here to see if anyone else has had this issue and what they did to solve this problem. And i think that my hot water system has done this before under sillier circumstances from memory. It just would not provided hot water only cold, no matter how much water I let flow through the pipes. I tried at different times during the day to have short or long bursts of water but to no avail. Then phoned for help from the Bosch techs and asked for a service provider. And asked for any tips or tricks of the trade to see if something would help. The employee said turn on hot tap to flow. Then off. Then for about ten times short bursts with one tap valve only, of on and off and one and off repeats to PURGE the pipes and mechanisms to kick start the hot water mode (My wording not his). That did not seem to work as there was not hot water when I left the tap running for usual time. So I tried it again - that did not seem to work either. But intuitively I just let it flow a little longer as if the previous steps may have triggered something. And hallelujah, warm water then hot water was steaming out without a lot of water waste in between, at the full pressure and with only one tap valve open. I hope this helps someone else. Hopefully I remember this for next winter. Eventually it does light up. But this is so annoying. I have skipped having a night time shower for several years, but I no longer have that option. Hoping that this is a simple problem to fix. Turn the tap to max - if this does not work, then turn the tap off, wait 1 minute and turn it on to max as fast as you can.Do not try to turn the cold on at the same time until you have the hot working - and even when the hot works - be careful turning on the cold depending on your tap or shower attachments as this may slow the flow of hot enough to make the system shut down the burners again.
