A sample is a piece of sampled sound (a “waveform”) together with various settings that determine how it can be played during a performance, which has been assigned to a pad. Here’s how to try out these effects and hear what they can do.Such a sequential arrangement of performed samples is called a “pattern.” At the factory settings, a demo pattern is assigned to Pad 1 in Pattern Bank A. If you attempt to sample, delete, record patterns, or carry out other such operations while Protect is left on, “Prt” appears in the display, and no further operations are permitted. I like to pair up this machine with a tape deck and sample sample mostly in standard (standard starts to get pretty lofi sounding). Otherwise I might record a drum beat and melody from my 202 into my 303 then loop it and play the loops in the 303 sequencer then track it to tape or DAW. The lack of a sequencer makes this sampler difficult for a lot of people but I use it to give character to my hip hop beats. As for the sample time I just pitch everything up on my stanton st150 (50 pitch max) which is huge before sampling. The 202 can only pitch down so much. I might even sample straight from a tape decks line outs. The lack of individual pitching (Pitching every pad individually) was a handy cap but theres ways of getting round that by bouncing things back and forth from 202 to 303( or any good sampler or DAW) and back to 202. I recommend this machine to lovers of Lo-fi though I would just as easily recommend a Roland Sp 404 as it can do Lo-fi just as well but different with its Lo-fi mode, bit crusher, tape compression and vinyl sim. Just a 404 and tape deck, turntable, sound card is all you really need which is my honest and humble opinion.SOUNDS Effective filter for what they do. 1et2 filters. pretty good dynamic in together OVERALL OPINION It's been a while since I have it, pa used all the time, but renders services as well I couple MIDI to the mpc, it allows me to trigger my samples or loops other. Nah, it's not a big sound, and more in most cases it is better to settle for a mono recording and low quality to preserve the memory. Effects and filters are effective. While the DR-800 manual is very good, going through the DVD first was very helpful -- it totally demystified the nature of the device and instilled enthusiasm for using it. The gentleman providing the instruction is fantastic. He is clear, personable and articulate. He has a real talent for knowing when to elaborate. Every time I was unclear on a particular point, it was like he anticipated it and, in the next 10 seconds, addressed that point. He also communicated his genuine appreciate for how cool a tool the DR-800 is. I can't recommend this DVD highly enough. I think it's saved me hours in getting up to speed. I found it to be more than worth the money.This is an excellent tutorial. Period. The instructor actually adds some life to the training (what could have been a boring and head-banging overload). He did a great job keeping me on track and interested throughout. I know I will be reviewing this DVD tutorial time and again until I've got this thing mastered. Great DVD, great price, and a can not do without, resource. Trying to learn this machine with just the owner user manual would be utterly exhausting. What I first thought I understood, turned out not to be as clear as it seemed. I continue to go back to the video and catch details that I missed.coupled with the manual, it all comes together. My objective is to make music and not to fiddle with a machine. After you do a few patterns and songs, the process becomes more natural.Roland certainly know their stuff in seeking the experience and support of David Wills (of ProAudioDVDs.com) in making this video. I already have other videos created by David for other equipment i own and my experience using these meant i had every confidence in the quality of this video.
