There aren’t a lot of things you can’t do with this simple looking white pedal if you think creatively and understand the basic construction of it, in which the pedal’s block diagram (see the manual) comes handy. First of all there are six jacks on the LS-2, named RETURN A, RETURN B, INPUT, SEND A, SEND B, OUTPUT. There are three knobs on the pedal, two of them are the level controls for the two (pre-amp) channels, from zero volume up to 20dB; in the non-notched middle position they have unity gain, so the input and the output levels are the same. The third knob is a rotary switch, you can select the six different modes with it. Disappointing to know you can’t trust new items to be actually new here. It works fine, it’s a simple circuit, so no harm done.I'm running a Marshall 18 watt head into a 2x12 or 4x12 cabinet. The LS-2 put a very bright, harsh color on the tone. Not a very good buffer, IMHO. It works as advertised, and seems to be rather handy. It's a very versatile pedal that allows you to do a ton of different things in terms of selecting different lines or loops. I wanted to use it to switch between my normal channel and trem channel, with a delay in the loop of the normal channel. I just could not get over the alteration of my base tone. This was true on both loops as well, so it wasn't the particular pedals I was using. I didn't try it with any other rig, so I'm not sure if this is only an issue with this amp. It's odd, because my TU-3, my BD-2 and my SD-1 do not have this effect on the tone, but the LS-2 did. This amp is apparently finicky about which buffers it likes. The DD-20 and DD-3 don't sound very good with it either. I was hoping it was a Boss delay issue, but it's not. Some buffers are better than others. The one in the LS-2 isn't as good for my rig as the others. Try before you buy if possible. I returned this product.I run an MXR M80 into MXR BASS COMPRESSOR into a SANSAMP PROGRAMMABLE BASS DI as my main tone that goes into the Boss LS-2. The LS-2 has two effects loops.
In one loop I run a Boss Bass Chorus and the other has nothing, which activates the clean tone. With this pedal I can blend how much chorus or clean tone I want, all set to taste. I can't even begin to tell you how warm and professional my tone has become as a result. 5 stars!I thought it was quite handy. But. life happened, and I sold the amp.I still like the amp, but now they just have a foot switchable boost. This is where this pedal comes in. I stumbled on this while researching some options, and it seemed to be the best route to take. It serves its purpose perfectly. A little tweaking with the red and green knobs will be necessary to make sure your effects volume is the same as the bypassed volume.A must have for any bass rig that is using effects.I have been stumped about the A-B dilemma for decades. No more switching in the effects and getting drowned out by guitarists. I have even gone so far as to put an octave pedal in my second (clean) loop, so I can do bass solos which have distortion on the high notes I'm playing, and the clean sub-octave makes it sound like there's another bassist backing me up. I bought a true bypass looper from another manufacturer, and out all pedals into a single loop, but volume difference between bypassed and non-bypassed signal was too big. Boss LS-2 solves this problem because it has a volume knob where you can fine-tune the volume level of the loop. The volume of both loops separately, to be exact, although I don't use it that way. So, to put it shortly, all my pedals are in a single loop of LS-2, which means I can turn multiple pedals with a single press on LS-2. Bypass buffer is standard for Boss - there is a minor high frequency loss, but that is nothing compared to sound loss that happens when you connect 10 pedals in series. I love it and it is a permanent addition to my pedalboard. However It has so many possibilities that It has completely changed how I think about my setup. This is the perfect tool for hardware nerds. Use mine for multiple purposes but my most used method would be mixing my dry bass with overdrive pedal board. Also perfect for running different instrument through the same effect loop. Being a boss pedal the hardware is sturdy and built to last and there seems to be endless possibilities to this product, really happy and would buy again. It is also a great way to remotely select another Effect. Of course when you route an Effect into both Loops, you can pick either one or the other, which I find handy when trying to maximise space at the front of a Pedal Board. This would be done to allow for some Stacking Options with an Overdrive or a Fuzz, cutting the Volume for a lower level of Dynamic or Boosting it to increase the amount of Clipping that is occurring. Alternately by placing it after an effect to Boost your signal without increasing the amount of Overdrive (like as a Solo Boost) or to Cut the Signal down (like a Master Volume) will also work well. The Level control could also be turned right down to act as a Mute Switch. Your Guitar Signal will connect to the INPUT as usual, Connect the OUTPUT to the INPUT of your MAIN Amplifier, connect the A SEND (technically an OUTPUT) to the INPUT of your Second Amplifier. Have a few preferred chorus pedals so moving this on. Footswitch is a little poppy and there's some low level background noise but I've experienced the same thing on a couple if these pedals. I now use the G System with one amp and can't think of any other ways to use it other than maybe to switch between guitars before the GS. Could use some ideas actually! For what purpose does it serve?Quite a handy little tool. It does a lot of different things, it just doesn't do everything all the time. Also, it is a little awkward (making the cable connections) running other effects through the two loops. It works great for either of these. The level knobs do not work when it is used like this. You can put jumpers in the loops and use the level knobs to control the output, for example set loop A for high level and B for low level to switch between rhythm and lead volume levels.
I currently have mine connected with my tuner being fed by loop B send (because I don't want it in the chain), and I have a jumper in loop A. I can switch from bypass, to loop A (for a output level adjustment) or loop B for tuner. Just so many possibilities. Cool tool. Here are links to the Manual and Guide I use it to switch between my clean loop and my dirty loop (as well as give the clean loop a little volume bump to compete with the dirt loop). Couldn't live without it.
