Boss ME6 Guitar Multi Effect. Comparisons may be made with the ME10, but it would be more fair to think of the ME6 as an enhanced ME5, Boss' debut all in one, floor-mounted package of a few years back. Physically, the ME6 is dominated by six big friendly pedals (labelled 1-5 and B for Bank), just like the stomp boxes we're all familiar with. However, the unit is considerably lighter and, save in one respect, more convenient than having the equivalent effects in individual packages. The drawback of having al your foot pedals in one unit is that the effects chain is preset, albeit in the most logical way, while discrete footpedals can be repatched into any configuration you like. The noise suppressor is always on, although it does have a variable threshold; this is very effective and keeps down the noise generated when a lot of compression and distortion are used. While the majority of the effects are digital (with 16-bit DACs), analogue circuitry is utilised where it is most important in the overdrive and distortion effects.

Effects settings are stored as 25 presets, arranged as five banks of five effects; the Bank pedal selects the bank, and pedals 1-5 select the number within that bank. Additionally, the ME6 has a manual mode where the individual effects can be switched in and out, using the pedals. Remember that any settings made with manual mode will be lost when the unit is switched off. Connections include a guitar input, a tuner output, stereo audio output on jacks and a stereo mini-jack for headphones. Jacks are also provided for an expression pedal and two footswitches, one to select manual mode and one to go into bypass. Power is supplied externally, but there is an AC adaptor lead hook, which means that a pretty hard tug would be needed to disconnect the power. Note the complete lack of MIDI. Editing effects involves pressing the Edit button and scrolling through the different effects available and their various parameters, using a four-way set of parameter buttons; a pair of value buttons changes parameter values. This brings us to a problem: once you've filled the 25 locations, you're stuck. There is no way to save the memory contents externally, which is a shame, so I'm afraid it's a case of resorting to the traditional (though these days unfashionable) analogue device of pen and paper. To this end, photocopiable blank patch charts are provided at the back of the manual. Note that the original factory settings can be recalled at any time. Even though there isn't a dedicated 'amp simulator' section on the ME6 (as found on the ME10), the output is at line level, and the sound produced when plugged into a mixing desk is acceptable. I used it on a number of recordings and was happy with both the distorted and clean sounds, and also with the ease and speed of altering effects in manual mode — the ME6 is so simple that it would be very hard indeed to get lost in its operating system.

The ME6 is an easy to use, good sounding source of effects, roughly equivalent to a similar collection of effects pedals; reverbs lack the artificiality often associated with units of this size and price, choruses are fat and lush, and the compressor is quite punchy. The distortion and overdrive sounds have a pleasingly analogue feel and can provide grungy noise or chunky metal with relative ease. It also scores very high on the value for money scale, at around ?40 per effect, plus the noise suppressor. All in all, if your budget won't stretch to Boss' ME10 and you find floor-mounting effects an attractive idea (and providing you keep the limited patch memory in mind), you won't go far wrong with the ME6. Each separate FX module has its own dedicated knobs and footswitch (8 in total) so it only takes a glance down to see what effects are on and what settings are available. And it makes it unbelievably easy to tweak your settings on the fly, something that is a nightmare with other multi FX units that have you scrolling through endless menus with no visual feedback.

It's true that Boss is number 1 in most people's minds for effects and the ME-80 doesn't disappoint with a wide range of great sounds including amp effects, modulation, delays, reverbs and more. It's a lot like having a whole pedal board complete with a programmable controller all in one unit just at a fraction of the cost. Andertons Music Co. is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Credit provided subject to age and status. I've had it for a few weeks now and am still discovering new things. It's like having a pedal board full of Boss pedals at a fraction of the price and in a convenient, accessible package. Well done Boss and Andertons.I quickly found out how to use manual settings, preset patches and to download from Boss. Its a lot of fun to use.The ME-80 is a solid and well thought out bit of kit. You really can’t go wrong at this price. I cannot see how you can get this amount of versatility and quality sounds for ?200 by buying single pedals. No brainier. There’ll always be the hero guitarists who will insist that the distortion is dodgy compared to a ratt and the wah doesn’t match a Dunlop, but who cares. This is an ideal rig for those of us who just want to get on with playing and experimenting with the different options available. Leave the snobbery to the snobs and the playing to the players. So easy to use, even without a manual, and the sounds coming out are great. Awesome for beginners like me.

It has really inspired his guitar work.ME80 is all knob driven and so much easier to tweak. So it's a few years older than the latest units but it still sounds fine to me. There's every effect you could want included plus a pedal. You could spend much more on a single overdrive pedal than this entire cornucopia of sounds. Well pleased with quality and price. Fantastic value for money. Just need to improve my chops now.Unbelievable value for money. Solid metal casing and pedals and controls are all well constructed.I love the 'analogue' interface through individual knobs and dials, but you also get the benefit of factory presets and saving your own, as well as downloading even more through the Boss Tone Studio. It may not have quite as many options as some of the more expensive units, but there is a huge selection of effects and enough to keep you busy experimenting for ages. As a bonus, you can run it on batteries and with headphones for a quick and easy practice session. The sound quality is great and like all Boss products, it's incredibly well built. The response is excellent, endless possibilities with sounds and looks very sleek and attractive. Also very robust so great for playing shows. Love it.Really like the tactile approach of having lots of knobs to twiddle to shape sounds rather than digital menu editing. It seems to do what it says it does, with good ergonomics, form factor and, above all, affordable for what it offers. It replaces my old ME-50.I use it with headphones so I can practice and play around without disturbing anyone else. Some interesting effects I had not come across before; defretter, electric to acoustic, humbucker to single coil, harmoniser etc. Tuner is really useful. Well built and thankfully with real life knobs to twiddle rather than endless menus. It's just a shame about the user.I have owned many Roland keyboards and rack units and have always been impressed by build quality, ruggedness and quality of sounds.

It sound fine but it doesn't really do what I hoped it would in terms of tone. I looks impressive and it's built well though. So glad that I got the ME80, a separate knob for everything and instant tweakability. It makes all my pedals including my looper redundantVery easy use. Robust unit that will last years. Access to the Boss Tone Library is a real boost.Huge library of patches available to download - for free. The sound is excellent and the effects are great. Easy to program. The switch between manual and memory is really useful as I can add in extra effects on the fly. If I could figure out how to put the compressor at the end of the effects loop it would be perfect.High quality sound to each effect and is built to last. I’ve had it for over a month now and ummm still finding new things! So I love the boss me-80. Strong piece of equipment.I've got to say that it is awesome value for money, there are tonnes of effects to play with, more than I need but it's been fun messing about with different sounds and combinations. It is very easy to use, just pick an effect, dial in the tones and level and hit the corresponding footswitch. No faffy menus getting in the way. The essentials (reverb, wah, flanger, OD) are decent enough straight from the box but you can transfer tones via USB from the boss website if you so choose. I only gave this 4 stars cos I feel that some of the higher gain amp models and distortion effects sound a bit tinny to my ears. But since I'm playing through a decent valve amp anyway I just bypass the amp models and use the blues driver or boost for a bit of extra kick. All in all, this is a fantastic piece of kit for anyone playing small gigs, messing about in the front room or wanting to create some weird sounds.I've loved playing around and experiencing the different tone sounds I can get out of the ME-80, I can't wait to find that perfect combination.Well built, solid unit.

Not all amp sims and overdrives are great but delays, reverbs, wah, octave FXs etc are really good, plus little looper function. Can use as you see it - no menus to scroll through, easy to set up and switch sections on or off like they are individual pedals - well done BOSS!Easy to use and so much choice! Will take time to discover everything but it's basic functions out if the box are great. For the price, the best entry level multiFX and the best price on the net was Andertons. One negative would be it doesn't come with a power supply altho batteries are included.Haven’t experimented with it enough.Learning it takes no time at all. My only gripe is 38 seconds of loop is a wee bit tight, i get it you want to sell loopers but giving 90 seconds or so would allow a better experience and probably sell more loopers to boot.It is fun! Great sounds, interesting and intuitive, everything I was looking for and more!More than happy.Still experimenting with it to get that sound I'm looking for.Add to that, phase, sprung wah and delay pedals. All you need then is a drone programmable pedal out. No more lugging about heavy equipment.) Yes the sounds are all but the same, not plastic like they used to be. It's simple! I don't need that many pedals so I use it on manual, which makes it seem to be all the pedals and amp in one box, with the same separate controls. So yeah I never even read the instructions, nothing really changed. One small criticism is the 'wah'. I use a sprung wah, which you can use just to add in more treble, and it's off in the default, so this one is too 'quack quack' for me, and I hate having to stomp it to turn it on. It's strong, well built, yeah great. So. anyone want to buy a heavy amp and a shed load of pedals? It truly is quite intuitive due to the intelligent way Boss has laid everything out. From what I've discovered so far I think that the ME-80 will fulfil all of my needs, and more, for many years to come.

Now has more pedals which eliminate the chance of hitting 2 pedals together and ending up in no mans land mid song.Substantial, flexible, but something about it felt a bit sterile to me. I returned it, and went back to my pedals. That’s why we want to make it as quick and easy as possible for you to get your order, safe and sound! Click the button below to read more. Did a full factory reset, no change, how do you get this to work????I have a ME-70 which I rarely use, but IIRC, while in manual mode, you have to stomp the right pedal with the assigned effect, like real pedals. I'm assuming the ME-6 is close to the ME-70Tried pressing the footswitches and the effects settings are completely different to patch I chose manual mode for. So something very strange is going on.Didn't know the ME-6 was that old. Around 3:42 of this vid, this guy talks about manual mode- maybe it'll give you ideas, dunno.
