Using a simple flat black can of spray paint, I was able to make it all black. Nobody can tell it was painted even when I point it out to them. First problem fixed. I have had the unit for about 7 months and it has performed flawlessly. It even uses the same toner as a wireless Brother printer I have which is a bonus as well. This past week of course, I encountered the DEEP SLEEP curse that so many people speak of. The machine will do half a ring and act weird, but will not receive faxes. After some research and playing around, there is a solution, even though Brother has decided to hide the feature. You ARE able to disable DEEP SLEEP. Go to General Settings, Ecology, Sleep Mode. When it asks you to change the time before sleep, simultaneously press the START and DOWN ARROW buttons.
You will now get the hidden option to Disable DEEP SLEEP mode. Disable it and enjoy your fax for many years to come.Very disappointing. Second there is no way to copy anything other than single pages, e.g., copies of book pages, as you cannot lift the top exposing the palette. This machine has caused complete stress and it certainly has not made our everyday office chores any easier. Because it continually malfunctions, I drove into town yesterday to another business in order to use their fax machine. We have tolerated this nonsense since we purchased it should have returned it within the time stated. Now apparently it is too late and we lost our option to return this equipment. Lastly, the toner cartridges are tremendously expensive and when it needs to be NEAR replacement, it will NOT allow you to fax!!!! If I could rate in the minus numbers I would!!!!!Likewise it's the 2nd time that I'm getting paper size mismatch errors. Called brother and they are literally impossible to deal with. Buyer beware, it's a cheap unit with absolutely no support. If you need brother for anything they hassle you to death, and by the time anything gets decided they just cancel the ticket out of the system.And so far this one is working really good, the print quality is really good, much better than my previous fax machine and it prints fairly fast, 2.5 seconds per page. It was fairly easy to hook up and only took a few minutes for me to have it up and running and this was with a few telephone interruptions Also while it does come with everything that you need to get started you're probably going to want to order an extra toner cartridge right away, the one that comes with it is only a starter and if you receive a lot of faxes you might just find yourself without any toner. Honestly 99.9 of the faxes I receive are junk mail but once a week I get something that is actually business related and for that reason I have to have a functioning fax machine. This thing is big, bulky and looks like it should do a lot more than it does but it operates with the simple efficiency of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
