The service personnel should instruct end users to follow the transfer procedure given in this chapter if the machine at the user site cannot print received data due to the printing mechanism defective. End users can transfer received data to another machine to prevent data loss. - Disassembly, reassembly and lubrication: Details procedures for disassembling and reassembling the machine together with related notes. The disassembly order flow provided enables you to see at a glance the quickest way to get to component(s) involved. At the start of a disassembly job, you check a disassembly order flow that guides you through a shortcut to the object components. Before starting any repair work, clean the machine as it may solve the problem concerned. -Maintenance mode: Describes the maintenance mode which is exclusively designed for the purpose of checks, settings and adjustments using the keys on the control panel. In the maintenance mode, you can update memory (EEPROM: electrically erasable programmable. You can also customize the EEPROM according to the shipment destination of the machine concerned. In addition, you can perform operational checks of the LCD, control panel PCB or sensors, perform a print test, display the log information or error codes, and modify firmware switches (WSW). -Error indication and troubleshooting: Details error messages and codes that the incorporated self-diagnostic functions display if any error or malfunction occurs. If any error message appears, refer to this chapter to find which components should be checked or replaced. The latter half of this chapter provides sample problems that could occur in the main sections of the machine and related troubleshooting procedures.

Also after the reset you will most likely get years of use out of the printer with no problems at all. As this series is already quite old another few years and the cartridges may no longer be available anyway. How do I clean or change the Purge Tank? Worked perfectly, printer is up and running again. I should have searched for this sooner, my printer has been down for several weeks. Without this information I would have been looking at a repair bill or new printer. I can’t thank you enough. I was worried when the unable to clean error came up because most sites had me believing it was time to throw the old friend away. Your instructions worked perfectly. I appreciate your knowledge and am SO happy I don’t have to toss Old Reliable! And with re-filling of cartridges, I don’t have to look at replacing the old duck. ?? Factory trained by 3M Company. Question on this same printer Brother MFC 420CN. I want to clean the optics. Just need to remove optics glass. Can’t find a parts or service manual. Got any info on this? Amazon calculates a product’s star ratings based on a machine learned model instead of a raw data average. The model takes into account factors including the age of a rating, whether the ratings are from verified purchasers, and factors that establish reviewer trustworthiness. See All Buying Options Add to Wish List Disabling it will result in some disabled or missing features. You can still see all customer reviews for the product. After I got the machine, my husband has been using it for all his photocopying needs. Is he ever happy that I bought this machine. COPIER It's so easy to use. As a copier, it works like any standard copier would. Just place the paper on the glass, close the lid and press the button. Voila. Copy quality is very nice, and it copies in color, too, of course. There is also the paper feed function on top of the printer for when I have multiple pages to copy. Just set the pile on top of the machine and let it feed each page through, just like the copy center copiers. SCANNER Scanning has never been easier. Not only can I control scanning through my computer, I can also just press scan on the printer itself and it will scan and automatically send it to my computer. I can send the scan to my computer as a file or photo or email or OCR. PRINTER There is a card reader on the printer itself which reads CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, xD-Picture Card and Secure Digital cards. You can print directly from the card. I tried it with CompactFlash, but it was too slow, so I don't use that feature. I prefer to read the card from my computer and send the files to my printer. The photos that print are brilliant. Just use high quality paper for the best results. I love how they look, no problems with color quality or ink smudging. Files and graphics print nicely, as well. I am satisfied with the quality and printing speed of this printer. FAX MACHINE I use the fax function occasionally and it does its job.
