The manual will have assembly instructions BUT WILL NOT help you learn how to the use the telescope to find objects in the sky. It only helps with assembly of the telescope. Here are two: Here are all of the Bushnell manuals. Here is the one for your scope: Actually what you need to do is join a local astronomy club and learn how to use your telescope to FIND objects in the sky. The manual will not help you with this. However read my TIPS on my profile page. Here are two-- he carries the small.965 eyepieces. Can Buffalo Bore ammo be safely fired? Answer questions, earn points and help others. It took several emails trying to persuade the seller into sending me photos. Well imediately i thought, no not for me. But, as i looked carefully at the photos that he had done so very well I thought otherwise. The box looked very nice and everything inside looked like new.And like new. I wasn't familar with these but after he lowered the price, since it wasn't an Atco, I couldn't say no. Original manual still intact.Doesn't look to be a single accessory or piece of hardware missing. According to the manual there is no barlow supplied. Must be an option. There is a place for one.BOL in a diamond on the right corner. The blue and silver is very attractive. There is not a single piece of plastic on it. Even the flex control knobs are made of aluminum. Well built and very nice looking.Looks like the exact same case layout. Another piece to the puzzle!I haven't had the time to set it up and test it out yet.

This is actually 1 of 3 deals i couldn't pass by in the last month. If it performs as good as it looks it will be great.Who knows. That would be hard to confuse wouldn't it?Looks like the exact same case layout. Another piece to the puzzle. Yep, that was to be my next post. On the back of the manual was the SYW mark.It is interesting to see subtle differences in yours compared to the 5 I have owned(3 today). It is interesting to see subtle differences in yours compared to the 5 I have owned(3 today). Yes very different. Mine has covered dec gearing. Yours does not. Looks like yours has knobs directly on the dec.I'm thinking yours are earlier models.BOL ran out of manuals and borrowed a few from SYW. SYW had previously gotten some free SR4mm eyepieces from Royal that had been given to Royal by BOL. SYW was happy to have that debt paid off. APL was very upset with all of them, so they called TJK and formed an alliance to try and take out SYW. True story, really SYW had previously gotten some free SR4mm eyepieces from Royal that had been given to Royal by BOL. True story, really. WOW, that was good. That was really good. So who was SOL again? So I set up my Unitron 128 (for comparision and mount sharing) just as the sun was setting. In my area it seems there is a period of pretty good seeing as darkness falls then gets worse as the evening goes on. It then improves at midnight or so. As soon as I could find Jupiter it was time. I currently have 2 128s (when its ready one has to go). The Bushnell was right there with the best 128. Pin point moons and sharp well defined cloud belts. You had to really look to see a difference in them. The tube is noticably smaller in diameter than the Unitron. This Bushnell deffinetly has an excellent objective. This 128 is the best of three i have compared. Now, I'm torn. It may be a keeper. Gorgeous classic Japaneses scope. Its a good one.Donation is not required by any means, so please enjoy your stay.

While this manual is intended to assist you in the set-up and basic use of this instrument, it does not cover everything you might like to know about astronomy. Although. Declination Lock Knob 11. Counterweight Shaft 12. Locate the pre-assembled Tripod and Equatorial Mount. Remove attachment bolts at top of Equatorial Mount. Attach Telescope Main Tube to the top of the Equatorial Mount. Secure in place by reinserting bolts through Equatorial Mount into base plate. Telescope models will vary in focal length). Included with this telescope is a Barlow lens. Barlow lenses are used to double or triple the power of your telescope. Place your Barlow between the focusing tube and the eyepiece. Provided you did a reasonable job aligning the finderscope, a quick look through the main telescope tube at low power should reveal the same image. The Lifetime Limited Warranty is an expression of our confidence in the materials and mechanical workmanship of our products and is your assurance of a lifetime of dependable service. All the chrome plated pieces are nice. The focuser and mount move smoothly. Includes the following.965 inch accessories: R.20 eyepiece, HM.12.5 eyepiece, HM.6 eyepiece, threaded Moon and Sun filters, what looks to be a partial Barlow lens tube, a Porro prism that is slightly bent, and a 90 degree diagonal. Two eyepieces have chrome barrels, one doesn't. The barrel can simply be unscrewed from one and screwed onto the other. The wood box has some wear. The tripod legs have some wear, the adjusters lock nicely. Includes owner's manual and the crosshair finder scope. See pics. The lower locking mechanism is missing so i made one out of brass, it works just as good as the original(see picts).

NO BOX, NO MANUAL, The legs have some real nice mill work to them and are solid and stable. Based on Isaac Newton’s original design, Newtonian reflectors use a two-mirror optical system to gather light and direct it to a magnifying eyepiece. Bushnell includes a tripod, finder scope, two magnifying eyepieces and a Barlow lens with its reflector telescopes. The low-power eyepiece works best when observing large, extended objects, such as star clusters and galaxies. Use the high-power eyepiece when observing the moon and planets. Lay the tripod on the ground. Loosen the thumb screws on each leg, and extend all three legs to a comfortable viewing height. Tighten the thumb screws on each leg after verifying that you extended each leg the same height. Stand the tripod upright on a flat, level surface. Loosen the retaining clamps on the tripod mount. Attach the telescope to the mount and tighten the retaining clamps to secure it in place. Attach the finder scope to the telescope tube. Insert the finder into the finder scope mounting bracket and tighten the thumb screws. Aim the telescope at a bright object, such as the moon or a star. Look through the finder scope and adjust the height and direction of the telescope to center the object into the finder scope. Insert the low-power eyepiece into the telescope’s focuser. Look through the eyepiece. Turn the focus knob on the focuser to sharpen the image. Align the finder scope if the object is centered in the finder scope but not the telescope’s eyepiece. Center the object in the eyepiece and adjust the finder scope's adjustment screw to center the object in the finder scope’s crosshairs. Remove the low-power eyepiece and insert the high-power eyepiece to increase the magnifying power of the telescope. Insert the Barlow lens between the focuser and the eyepiece to further multiply the magnifying power.

Things You'll Need Bushnell reflector telescope Tripod Finder scope Magnifying eyepieces Barlow lens Tips The images in a reflector telescope appear upside down and backward because of the mirrors used in the Newtonian design. Pick an observing location away from porch lights, street lights and other forms of local light pollution. Rural areas offer the best observing sites because of their distance from the light domes generated by the combined light pollution of a town or city. Continued use of SGL indicates your acceptance of our cookie policy. The legs don't all lock, so it's hard to align. The best I could get was a decent view of the Moon, and it was really neat. I understand star gazing is an interesting hobby, and, before I invest in a telescope, I'd like to know if this is the right hobby for me. I have a deep interest in all things space, from exploration to observation, and I build models of spacecraft. Should I try star gazing and buy a new telescope. If so what would you recommend, and what would I see with said recommendation. Would optics under this price range be able to view the solar system with ease.

I'm not familiar with the views offered by modern telescopes, but I'd like to be able to view Venus, Mars, and Jupiter with some level of detail. (If anything I've written doesn't make sense, it's because I'm entirely new to this.) This is With a beginner's kit. That is a really nice aperture and will last you years of enjoyment. But don't underestimate the 6inch tho. It's a fine Scope and will show you plenty. I just showed you both options, depending if you are able to stretch your Budget a little. The moon will be awesome. To give you an idea of what you are likely to see check out our sketching section. This is much closer to what you'll see instead of the pretty colour pictures you see in magazines and on cheap department telescope boxes. Maybe you could consider looking at the second hand market. Astronomers tend to look after their stuff, and it means that if you suddenly decided that visual astronomy wasn't for you or you get really into it and want to upgrade you won't lose more than a few bucks. Cheers Ant Florida does tend to have good weather and and clear skies but you will not be able to decide to go observing any night that you want. Over here we have just really had the chance to start observing again after a 6-8 week of really bad weather. In effect people that wanted to observe were not able to. Will not suggest a scope, the US market is different to the one here and the approach is slightly different for the different equipment. Make your own choice and decision. Couple of retailers are Astronomics, Agena Astro Products, Eyepieces Etc. This can be updated, If Its a reflector telescope, it may need collimating, to improve its accuracy. But a clue to its identity will help us help you a little more. Star gazing is also very effective with Binoculars, anything from 7x50 upto 15x70 will get great results. The first number indicating the magnification, may cause you problems in holding the Binocular.

As the specifications increase so does the weight, meaning that they may require a tripod to support them, but higher magnifications exaggerate the handshake, and so upsets a stable image unless correctly supported. See what intererests you and if it is the intetest for you and take it from there. Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2 I really appreciate the feedback. As for the name of the telescope, it's a refracting Bushnell Skychief III. I'll look into the suggestions provided, as well. The scope and target finder are functional, but it's all dusted over and missing several thumb screws on the mount. I couldn't find the scope on the Bushnell website, and my dad says it's very very old (No specifics, though). Realised you put it is a refractor:-) Swipe makes some weird sentences It may give nice views for the size it is. Earlier models had nice all metal focusers. Small refractors are sometimes let down by wobbly mounts but it might not be worth improving it, especially since you have a budget to buy something else. Cleaning the optics might help too. - but as to your original question the money would be best spent on a dob I think. A large dob will still give great views of planets, probably better than a refractor in your price range. To add to the confusion, a Maksukov, say the Skywatcher SkyMax 127mm (or whatever it is marketed as in America) is generally recommended as a good planetary scope. I say 'go for it'. Get the biggest aperture you can for your money, 8' dob seems to be the benchmark for deep sky objects and nebula, as well as good planetary colour and detail. If you explore astronomy and decide that it's not for you, you'll at least have had some amazing views into the cosmos, and you can always sell the scope. Magnification of the telescope comes second, Its achieved by dividing the Focal length of the telescope by the Focal length of the eyepiece, so a 12mm eyepiece on your telescope would give you 75x Magnification.

The actual telescope or OTA (Optical Tube Assembly) is still a Newtonian reflector telescope. The other type of scope (Reflector) your already have. There is a third telescope that combines both known as a Catadioptric Telescope.Get the biggest mirror you can afford. If you live in the USA get a Zhumell dob, they have great reviews, made very well and are very affordable. Check them out on telescopes.com Gary See if that wets your appetite for more investment. Japanese made and quite vintage. It might at least be nice to keep hold of it as a collector?s item. Japanese made and quite vintage. It might at least be nice to keep hold of it as a collector?s item. that's what I was thinking, if it's an early model with quality metal focuser. Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk Might be worth just going a few months without buying a telescope until you're really sure. It hasn't arrived yet, but I don't see myself returning this telescope. Was it a good choice. While many of you recommended a Dobsonian for the budget, I assumed a high quality refractor like the XLT 120 would be a better choice if money permitted (and it ended up permitting!). Might be worth just going a few months without buying a telescope until you're really sure. I make a lot of rash decisions. This is one of them. It's easy! Sign in here.
