I would only recommend this type of light as a wall washer (which is what it's designed for). UPDATE (Jan. 8, 2018): I've had this for about 6 months now and a lot of the LED's have gone out, roughly 15 of them. The light still works great but dropped one star because of this at it slightly affects the color output.They are light weight and yet feel solid. I'm not a professional in lighting and sound by any means but I was able to easily navigate these lights to get the effects I needed. I do wish Chauvet put the user manual in the box with the product and not just give you a url where to download it. The quick reference guide does help one get the basics of setting up the lights.Unfourtunatly, I had one unit of the two that I got that has an issue with a constant flickering that's an issue in all modes and configurations. Very frustrating as I was depending on these for a gig, but it can't be helped, it happens sometimes I suppose. Also very disappointed that an exchange was not available from the seller. Here's hoping that the price stays the same. Otherwise, very versitale wash, very light weight, seems sturdy enough, love the ability to chain them or run parrallel. Good response to DMX controled sound mode, can make some nice strobish style sound activated presests. The Sound mode on the unit itself was a little iffy IMO. Would be nice if the pre-installed programs were a little more intellegent to alleviate the need for DMX programming to really get these things awesome for a novice lighting user, but with an OBEY 40, and also the dedicated foot controller, I was very happy overall, and will be getting two more for upwashes soon. My only concerns on this unit is that it is a bit heavy compared to other LED lights and the built in programs(shows) are somewhat limited. That said, it's much brighter than others and seems very sturdy. Hopefully it can take the abuse.A lot of reviews I have seen are complaining about the light being too bright - thats fine and it is really bright, but wouldn't it be worse for it to be too dim. The way I see it is I can always do what some of the YouTube tutorials are doing and put auto window tint on it if it ever bothers me - although so far it hasn't. The light does have a lot of different modes and some settings for each mode - by no means is this a complaint but the different settings are kind of confusing. Again not a big deal - I will probably end up printing out a list of what they are and stick it to the back for reference. All in all I think this is a great light and for the price I will probably be buying another very soon. JohnI've ordered several over the past few years and they keep improving the product. I would, however, wish they would orient the control board to the side, rather then on top. I've had to modify some to fit my needs. Just seems that no matter how you mount the light it's difficult to get to the controls on the back of the unit.This waste of money wouldn't turn on for me even just the second time. Just purchased some lights by ADJ and some really cheap ones (that actually turn on lol) that are much better for me. Returns are processed within 4-5 business days. My issue is with the colorstrip mini's. No matter what I do, they don't remember their dmx programming whenever the power is cycled. Whenever I turn them on before a service, they default back to dmx channel 0. I basically have to manually keep telling it which dmx channel it needs to be set to before every service. Just wondering if anyone has had the same issue with these mini's? I have an email submitted to chauvet and hopefully I'll hear something back soon. After entering the DMX address always had to ensure I hit enter and then exit back to the first layer of the menu. The Chauvet customer support contacted me and wanted me to send them back in for repair.but I can't really do that at this point as I don't have enough extra lighting to light my backdrops. I received an email from Chauvet customer support.
They said that after you select which dmx starting address you need the fixture on, hit enter (which I was already doing), then back out of the sdad menu and move up to the next menu which i think is saad, then hit enter to go into that menu. After going into that menu, the fixture will start flashing, and the numbers on the back of the display will all turn to zeros. After that, you're done. The guy said that when you move up to the next menu and enter it, it will actually save what the dmx starting address was. I've been through 6 or so services and haven't had a single issue with the colorstrips forgetting their dmx starting address.
