You can shut off the valve, let the carb run dry and you don't have to drain the fuel tank. Use a good fuel stabilizer and you can go a year or two without draining the tank.

Now the bad news. The primary reason for the generator is to run my sump pump during the storm that wiped out the power. That also gives me redundancy if on pump ever fails. It can also run my freezer (not my fridge). I also run several lamps with LED bulbs. The problem is its voltage regulation is terrible. There is a screw just above the starter assembly that will adjust the voltage (you will need a meter). At minimal load (a few lights and a fan) the voltage can be about 150 - 160 VAC. This will lead to a shortened life of the devices. The LED bulbs seem to do OK but my fan burned out after about two hours. If you have a constant moderate or heavy load of 400 to 800 watts, you can adjust the voltage and the generator will hold a pretty steady voltage of 120 VAC. This means if you keep a moderate load like a small heater the voltage can be good (although you will burn more fuel, but if the sump pump kicks in it will now overload. So the only real solution is to have a few different extension cords an manually switch them. Once per hour switch to the sump pump, then back to lighting with a heater, etc. Or you just leave the sump pump in and let the higher voltage eventually kill the light loads and consider them expendable. Either may be acceptable if you only loose power once or twice per year. If you want something you can just start and forget about you need to move to a higher price range, since most generators in this price range seem to be using this same design.Please try again later. Burned out despite having a circuit breaker. Quite overrated for power output. 2-cycle motors are a pain. Newer designs are available with 4-cycle motors.
