This easy-to-use, self-install burglar alarm system works with one or more loud sirens to alert anyone nearby of a pos- sible break-in. Using your existing phone line, the system can also call you and alert you when you’re away from home. We offer multiple sizes of the S02 kit. Look for the size you purchased on the table on the next page to see what sensors you have and what zones they are programmed to. This will help you ensure that everything is working as it should.Set it up right the fi rst time, and save on painkillers from the headache you avoided. Note: Do not mount any transmitters directly on metal. This will ensure that the transmissions from the sensors make it to the main panel successfully and reliably. This will help you remember which sensor is in what area. Each sensor has a number. That number is the zone it is assigned to Note: If you need more space, there is room at the back of the manual. An existing phone line with a working dial tone is required for this feature. To listen on an attached telephone line follow these steps: Alternatively, program a telephone number into your system, trigger your alarm, then wait for it to call you. For more information about zones and their settings, see “Zone Settings” on page 16.Make sure to change this password as soon as you fi nish setting up your system. Each Zone can have one attribute assigned to it which controls how the accessories within that Zone will behave. This gets you into Programming Mode (both Out and Home lights will be lit). Once you have entered in the com- mand, press Return to exit programming mode. ZZ stands for zone number. If you have some third-party wired sensors, you can connect them to your S02 alarm system there. Wired sensors are “Instant,” meaning that they will trigger the alarm immediately whenever the system is armed in Home mode or in Out mode. We’ll highlight some of the fea- tures of your new system here. You can browse through the Table of Contents at the beginning of this user manual to quickly find answers to any questions you may have about your system. Let’s take a look at the details of the main panel. Main Panel Front Status Lights. To wake up the keypad, press any key. The keys will light up with a blue backlight, as shown below. You can swipe your RFID Key Tag over this logo on the front of the main panel to disarm the system. Main Panel Back Power Switch Tamper Switch (inside) Ports (see next page) This will ensure that the internal backup battery will be charging whenever the main panel is receiving power. To arm the system in Home Mode, wake the key- pad and then press the Home Arm Button (House icon). If you don’t hear a beep, then the panel did not recognize the button press. (It does not beep when you wake up the keypad.) When you’ve finished entering a command, you’ll hear two beeps from the panel to let you know that the command was recognized successfully. You can arm the system, trigger an accessory, and confirm that the alarm triggers and reports the Zone number to you. There are more details about how to trigger the accessories in the Accessories section of this user manual. The system will call each number one at a time, in order. You can enter phone num- bers up to 14 digits long. In this section, we’ll talk about the features and settings.

To arm the system in Home Mode, wake the key- pad and then press the Home Arm Button (House icon). For more information about the Seconrdary RFID Keypad, see the Working With Accessories section. If you also want to connect a phone to the same line, then the phone can be plugged into the panel using the EXT port. Without dial tone, the phone control features of the S03 Security System will not work correctly. The Out light will be flashing while the Exit Delay is counting down. The default Exit Delay is 30 seconds, and it can be adjusted from 0 to 90 seconds. This is ideal for certain types of accessories, such as smoke alarms, panic buttons, etc. 4 - Disabled Any accessories in a Zone with this setting will not trigger the alarm, even if the system is armed. The system has 32 numbered Zones for wireless accessories, which can hold up to 10 ac- cessories each. It also has support for connecting up to 2 zones of third-party wired sensors. You can arm the system from outside the house as you leave in the morning, and disarm the system before open- ing the door when you come home. You can see more information in the previous section, entitled Zone Settings. RFID Key Tags RFID Key Tags are ideal for sharing with house guests, cleaning staff, security personnel, or anyone who needs temporary access to your system. Additionally, you can swipe the RFID Key Tags in front of the Keypad to disarm the system. The Secondary RFID Keypad also comes with 2 additional Key Tags. Like the other accessories, sirens that come with your new system are pre-programmed by our technicians so they should be working right out of the box. You can turn the Smart Outlets on and off remotely, either by entering commands on the Main Panel, or by calling the system and entering commands over the phone. Some things you just have to figure out by trial and error. My neighbor response time is much faster than police response time where I live, so self-monitor with local sirens is superior for me. I don't yet know how long they last, but this seems reasonable to maintain. The motion sensors are 9V tansistor batteries. You get to choose which sensor zones are active in which mode. And of course, never forget good physical security. Lock your doors, and make sure that you have deadbolts that are properly installed. Don't rely on the latch on sliding doors, use a bar in the gap-- I just use a piece of wood cut to length.) Insurance deductibles are usually in the thousands of dollars, and they don't cover everything. Sentimentals are irreplacable.
This is really inexpensive protection. All in all, this is an honest basic alarm with most all of the features you'd expect for this price. There are some minor disappointments mentioned above, but I would recommend and buy this system again, and give it about 4.5 stars.Set up took me about an hour. I did spent 15 min reading the included manual. Then it took me another 30 min for the installation of the main unit and all the sensors. I used my drill and just drilled all the motion sensors to the upper corners of the walls where I needed them (screws are included). Then I attached all the door sensors the all the doors using the included 2-sided stickers, and I added pieces of tape just in case the sticker glue doesn't last very long. Then I spend another 15 min for playing with the settings of the main unit - I made the settings to my liking, including adding phone numbers for both making a phone call and sending a text in case the alarm is triggered. I tested it and it works great. Every time the alarm is triggered the main unit will call the number (my cell phone) and also send me a text. For thos of you wondering what kind of SIM card it is using - regular, micro or nano - it uses the regular SIM. That info I couldn't find anywhere online, and only found after I received the unit and opened it. Also - all sensors included in this package are pre-registered to the unit. You don't have to do anything but turn them on and they are already working with the main unit. You don't have to install all included sensors, only install as many as you need. By the way - each sensor comes with its own battery included. If you need extra sensors just buy them separately. Extra sensors do need to be added and registered through the main unit - I added 3 more Motion sensors which I bought separately. Each one came with an instruction how to add it (it's very easy).
You can reprogram all sensors and zones if you want to, but I don't see a point, they are already programmed in the best way possible, in my opinion. One recommendation - set up the arming time to more time - about 30-40 seconds should be OK for most people; and set up the disarming time to less time - about 0-10 seconds. And YES - this alarm unit comes with an included and installed back up power battery which should last at least 1 day - I couldn't find info on that, but it comes with it, which makes the unit power protected. You can also connect the unit to a regular phone line, if you have one - a house phone that has regular phone connections. The unit comes with phone IN and phone OUT inputs. Also in the Manual it offers options for Security companies to add the unit to their system, so it is possible to have this unit with a security company - so long as they agree to use it - I guess in that case you'll just add their phone number, and when the unit triggers an alarm - it will call them, and then they will call you and they can send a security person to your house. You can program program the unit to call up to 5 phone numbers and text up to 3. So it is possible to program it to call a Security company and yourself at the same time as well. Keep in mind that id you do want to use it with the security company there will be monthly fees with them for the service. Otherwise there are no monthly fees to just use this unit with your own phone number, if you don't count the SIM card charges (get a pre paid SIM card). It's not a monthly fee SIM, so you won't have a monthly expense for this alarm unit. Unless you add the feature to send you a text message each time the alarm is armed and disarmed - this is an optional setting. So if these features are on and used often, then you will need to recharge your SIM card more often, as it will cost you for each text. So keep these things in mind. And last - I will mention about the sirens. This package comes with 2 sirens.
One is smaller and has to be next to the alarm unit because it plugs in it and doesn't need separate power cord and the other is bigger - that is a remote alarm, of course it is pre-programmed to work with the main unit - if you bought this package - and it uses a power cord with adapter. So you just plug it in somewhere else. Preferably the main unit and small siren should be installed in one side of the house and the bigger remote siren should be installed in the other side of the house. Some people install the remote siren in the garage, in an outside building - like a second house, or a shed or in the backyard or front yard if you have a power outlet there. Just make it hard for an intruder to find both sirens fast - they should be far apart in my opinion. And YES - both are loud and can be clearly heard by the neighbors even if both are installed inside your house. So this is my review of the Fortress Security GSM-B Wireless package. I haven't needed to call their customer service yet, as everything I needed to do was clearly explained the the manual and I had no problem installing all the parts. This is in my opinion the best and easiest DIY (do it yourself) alarm system which offers many features and optional componetns (you can add glass breaking and smoke alarm sensors to it) and a system that is loud enough and secure enough (uses the most secure cellular networking to send you a text or phone call) and is protected with a back up battery in case of power outage. So I recommend it to anyone. Buy this system. I did so a month ago (bought it from Amazon) and I can say this has been one of the best investments I have made in the recent past!Once you figure out how to set this system up it is a great security system option. Update: I fully installed the system today and it works very well, especially if you install a SIM card for a small extra charge. The app isn't great but it works for basic functions.
The sensors are supplied with a different zone number for each on the back, this is very confusing. The install instructions are pretty good but there are some things in the setup menu that you will have to figure out by trial and error.The only problem I had is that two out of the ten door sensors were not working out of the box (no detected by the panel). Technical support was great with this and the issue was quickly resolved by simply reprogramming them (easy to do with the online tutorial). A second issue I had was related with the GSM which was not recongized by the panel. Once again I was very pleased with their customer service which in the end sent me a brand new panel. A few of things I learned also while setting this up: 1. not all SIMs work on this panel, since some providers use GSM whereas other use CDMA. The system takes only GSM. 2. The motion sensor drains a lot of power if left on the 5 second setting (i.e. it can detect movement after 5 second from the previous detection). This means that when you are at home it will be triggered every 5 seconds. This causes the sensor to get low in a few days and when this happens it gives false alarms when you are away. This can be resolved by changing it to the 5 min setting. 3. the remote sometimes need 2-3 pushes to work. 4. the recorded message is useless because when is very hard to understand (bad microphone in the panel). All in all it is a good system which I would recommend if you are on a budget.I found it was a defective motion sensor, so now I have one sensor less than what I have ordered. I still given me two false alarm in the last week. I send an email to amazon customer services, to see what I can do, with no answer. I just bought a new alarm to replace this one.I don'T know if it send an alarm in case of power failure either. Please be carfull in Canada the only GSM provider is Rogers or Fido.But there are several issues with its design that should be corrected for it to be worthy of 5 stars.
First the software is apparently fixed, with no means of improving it by a firmware update. One update it sorely needs it that of communication with the home's computer network. Then many possibilities open up. Also tablets without phone connection could be linked via the internet, much like the X10 system, even my thermostat from Honeywell communicates with my tablet. Second, It does not identify the state of any open sensors, so the system could be armed only partially with open windows or doors not identified. Third the main panel needs to hidden from intruders so that it cannot be prevented from sounding alarm and phoning your selected numbers. With a delay applied to the 'Away' alarm, the main panel is vulnerable, and announces its presence by beeping. However if hidden, you have no way of knowing what its state is, armed or disarmed because there is no repeater display. (It beeps twice when disarmed) If you need to check the system perhaps when retiring for the night, using one of the hand held remotes, you must install the wired siren and let that 'tell' you its disarmed by chirping twice. So far I have not identified a setting to chirp once when it is armed. The strobe siren (which has a visible light) can be used for this but the suggested outdoor location and its loudness make that option impractical for me. Fourth, the RFID keypad I bought as a remote panel has, so far, resisted being operationally paired. It is recognized by the main panel but so far refuses to activate or deactivate the system. Fifth, there is a wired connection bus (a row of screw terminals) behind the main panel and terminals for wired contacts, which was ideal for some of my existing sensors, and for attaching a remote keypad. The support team has provided clear instructions by email and pointing me to FAQ's where the manual is unclear. The RFID manual however needs seriously re-writing. It has been translated from its original language and is hard to understand.
