Mcqueen 1.0 out of 5 stars HOWEVER, there is some value in this book. I did like the suggestion of freezing your gold in ice in the freezer. Here's a tip: there are multiple places you can buy coins and bullion for only 1-2 over market price. This is a good deal as an investment as the idea is to buy and hold. And when you deal with gold and silver when you go to sell you will still be able to get that same 1-2 fee(or more) back(that's how an investment is supposed to work right, buy low sell high?). There are many public sites with one of the best being Bullion Direct.

You can even buy coins from the mint, so you don't really need a secret source to buy physical gold and silver. So, that being said let's talk about the guide to storing your metal. Perhaps I was mislead. I thought this book was going to talk about buying physical gold as an investment. Right off the bat, Mr. Shuler states that he doesn't personally buy physical gold. So I have to wonder why he is writing a book on it. I did laugh at that comment. After the marketing hype intro to get you excited about storing your gold, he spends a good deal talking about WHY you should buy physical gold. I think most people know why they want to store physical gold. He gives you the obvious things you could figure out on your own. In Chapter 3 he discusses where to buy direct dealer prices. I feel that he is just trying to get you to buy a membership to a club that supposedly sells to you at wholesale prices. Which, if he doesn't buy the gold himself makes me wonder about the validity of his source. To push this he actually doesn't even tell you, but directs you to his website, which makes me again question the book's validity. After Chapter 3 the rest of the book covers storing your physical gold, quite literally. It's another thing that I wonder if there are people out there that are so paranoid that they need an expert to tell them to buy a safe, use a bank vault, or stuff it into a secret compartment in a hollowed out book or food storage can (not joking, it's in there). I do give him a point for the funny picture in there. Despite my criticisms I do try to look for the good. There are some ingenius ways to hide your gold such as freezing it.I only worry about some of his methods hurting the condition of the gold or silver, such as silver oxidation which could actually reduce a coins value. He also talks about burying your gold and decoys.

If you want serious storage security for your gold, ie you buy a ton of it and need off premise storage he does give real places that will do this for you (for a fee), which some investors may need. He also covers buying physical assets in a 401k(oh wait, I think that's in the free book). So in conclusion, if you need to know how to store your gold, this is the book for you. If you are looking at how and where to buy gold there are better books out there like The author is obviously very experienced in sharing the places where one can store their gold and silver, and he does gives the pros and cons of doing it. Thank you for respecting the hard work of this author. Where do I store the gold and silver that I buy. As simple as it sounds, there is no one simple answer. The answer depends on a number of factors that are covered in detail in this book. Make no mistake about it. The answer, or rather YOUR ANSWER to this question, is critically important. If you make the right decisions here, your life is good, really good. If you make poor decisions here, at best it can affect your wealth. At worst it could affect your life. Really. This is serious stuff and you owe it to yourself to take some time and carefully review the information contained here, think it through and make the wise decisions that are best for you and your personal situation. My motivation for writing this book was twofold. Way back when I first starting purchasing silver and gold, I searched everywhere to find the answers contained in this book. It was not easy. I simply wanted to find the best places to store my gold and silver. How hard could that be to find out, right. As it turned out for me, a lot harder than I thought. With diligent research I was only able to find bits of information about individual storage options here and there. I have yet to find any one publication anywhere near as comprehensive and complete as this one. I believe it is very important to understand and assess all of the available storage options and only then make the best decisions for yourself, based on having all of the facts and information in front of you.

My other motivation for writing the book was personal. I’ve been involved with gold and silver in one way or another for decades. It seemed like I was always getting asked the storage question. Quite frankly, I just got tired or telling the same story over and over. Hence the book. Due to what’s going on with our economy, our massive Federal debt and concerns about the dollar, new metals investors are purchasing physical gold and silver every day. They realize they need to exchange some of their paper dollars which are declining in value, for a real store of value that is found in precious metals. Quite a few of them purchase rather large quantities of metals, and don’t have a clue about where to store them once they get them. A while back I had a medical doctor call and ask for suggestions on the best way to store his metals. He was obviously a very intelligent person and we had a great chat. Recently he had made the decision to start accumulating physical gold and silver. However, he had no idea in the world as to which metal he should buy more of (gold or silver), he had no idea what forms would be best to buy (coins or bars, etc.), and he had no idea of where to store it nor how much space it would take up. He even asked me if he should rent a warehouse to store it in. When I told him that if he put half of his investment into gold, he would be able to put that much gold in his pants pockets, he almost dropped the phone. He quickly figured out that he did not need to rent a warehouse to store his metals. It just goes to show that it really does not matter how smart someone is, storing gold and silver is a unique niche that requires its own specialized knowledge. Before you invest your hard earned money into gold and silver, it really You've reached the end of this preview. Sign up to read more. Rate as 1 out of 5, I didn't like it at all. Dicas interessantes e curiosas. History Has an Empirical Answer Physical Metals You instinctively know that gold is valuable and understand it must be stored safely. You probably also realize that gold coins and bars come with no replacement policy: if you lose them, they’re gone for good. There’s no claim check to redeem. This makes your home storage plan critical. While storing gold at home can scary to some people, it might be the right choice in some circumstances. Knowing how to store gold in your home to prevent theft — and without losing track of it in the process — can save you a lot of time and money versus other options. This Gold Storage at Home guide provides a wealth of information about what to do with your stash. Some of these same tips can be applied to silver storage, too.

Some of the things we cover include: The home storage “golden rule” How to determine if you’re a target for theft Why insuring your metal is probably not a good idea Where to hide gold at home Backyard burial advice The pros and cons of alarms and safes Natural disasters The Ultimate Storage Plan Let’s dig in. Part I: Gold Knowledge, or the Lack Thereof 1. The Golden Rule for Home Storage: One Confidant Everyone should have one confidant that A) knows where your bullion is stored and B) has the ability to access it. It should be someone you trust implicitly and who knows how to keep a secret. They should have a good idea of how much you have, where it is stored and the key, passcode or instructions to access it if your chute doesn’t open from that weekend dare. Why do you need to share your storage details with someone. Because telling no one about the location of your gold and how to access it poses an obvious risk. If you become ill, incapacitated, have a major accident or even die, then no one else is able to get to the gold. The reason you bought and stored bullion to begin with — to preserve and protect your family's wealth — is thus defeated. Your wealth strategy must include one confidant knowing your secret. But they are the ONLY person who should know you have gold stored in the house. If others find out, your risk just increased. Worse, once the word is out, you have lost control of who knows you have bullion. That’s because of the ripple effect: once someone knows you own gold, you have little control of who they tell — and who those people tell. When Word Gets Out: A Real-Life Account My father had a friend named Robert who was a gold coin collector. He had one of those big, fancy combination-lock safes. My dad said it looked like it would require a forklift to move it. Unfortunately, a couple local thugs found out he had some gold. They forced their way into the house and held both Robert and his wife at gunpoint.
