At the end, I bough got this keyboard which fixed everything.Cleaning it and using compressed air did not help. The replacement arrived well packed and teh installation was done in a matter of minutes. The new keyboard fits perfectly and looks 100 like the original one. The laptop is like new. I do recommend downloading the Lenovo service manual from the support site for detailed instructions of how to install it.
The release mechanism is not intuitive, and you may end up removing more screws than you need to otherwise.Anyways as for what i ordered and got, what a great disappointment. The swap is easy enough and the keyboard fits exactly as per the original. It even looks exactly like the original. However the lower-right corner was damaged causing the oft-used right-arrow key to jam. I examined the packaging and could see no evidence that it had been subjected to an impact there or anywhere. The packaging is very good in fact. I can only conclude that the damage occurred BEFORE the unit was shipped. But that is not the worst of it. Now that I have been using the new keyboard heavily for a few days the difference is immediately noticeable. I can tell this not a real Lenovo keyboard. Speed typing makes this vibration go nuts. Then there is the tactile feedback from the keys. I have my two Lenovo's side-by side (an X201 and this T420) and am pushing the keys alternately. The difference is black and white. One reason I buy Lenovo is for their legendary keyboards and this not one of them. It's junk. There is no crisp stop to a key stroke - it's kinda gummy and the afore-mentioned looseness makes this feel even worse.
