Searching the web i can't find reference to battery replacement. I find it hard to believe it's not been done before. Incidentally the flat battery doesn't seem to affect the operation, only the clock function dies when the 240v is removed. The memory store and the scan work OK. Or am i missing something. As you have probable guessed i'm a absolute newcomer to this hobby and would appreciate all the info.The text specifies a CL2032 battery as a replacement, which I believe is the Duracell direct equivalent of the more commonly heard of CR2032 3 volt lithium coin cell.This takes place with the power switch on the front panel 'Off' but with mains connected. It also states that a fully charged battery should last for about ten days. I would leave the radio connected to the mains overnight to make sure it's at least attempted to re-charge the battery before writing it off. HTH Andy.

I found that the definition of dBu I was using was not the correct one (there's more than one). Getting the levels down got it working. Some of the transformers were insensitive anyhow, and one was stuck, but the voltage at the speaker was 3v before the adjustments and 5v afterward. Reception is much improved and I am grateful for your assistance. Ray cautioned fiddling with the PLL and I was very worried, since that ship had already sailed, but you were able to show it was not the problem it seemed to be. Perhaps that would be a better test to put your scope on the test point. I suspect that if your receiver is working well, then AGC action is flattening out any adjustment - you did have the sig gen output right down, didn't you. You have to be careful with some of the Japanese test voltages, there's a table somewhere in the book. Anyway - LO2, T1 and T2 - test point TP4, 0.28v p to p, LO3, T4 and T5 - test point TP11, 0.2v p to p. Both test point are 50ohms so no worry about loading. Cheers - Martin ZL2MC ISTR that when I gave mine a tune-up a few years ago I found one of the IF transformers need about half a turn to bring it up to peak and that really made the radio sing. I had been comparing it prior to that to the ham-bands only Yaesu FT901D which was a very hot receiver and I though that the R2000 was performing alright considering. I sold the FT901 and until my interest peaked again the R2000 was stored away for a few years. The only thing wrong with it was the master oscillator was miles out and it went really well.
This encouraged me to get the R2000 out the cupboard and the rest is history. It's as sensitive as the NRD515 but lacks the selectivity and the bells and whistles. Also, the R-2000 seems to be very sensitive just from the small wire antenna that I have been using so I plan to get a better antenna and I am hoping to get some good DX catches. I really had to tweak the pots back and forth for a couple of minutes before it was somewhat stable and then I made the final adjustment by sight by watching the frequency display as I turned the. I do need to get some canned air and clean all of the nooks and crannies eventually. He actually restored my prized Nixie tube World time clock for me a couple of months back. I saw a post from you I think it was recommending him for radio repairs and I contacted him and he was game. He does great work and he really stands behind his work. I had a broken lever in there that he couldn’t repair and he actually fashioned something from a piece of old circuit board I think it was. Very clever guy and he also changed the capacitor out and cleaned some of the pcb traces which were dirty and was causing one of the Nixie tubes to light only partially. I couldn’t recommend him any more highly! The trick is in aligning them to give the required quadrature output, but it’s not hard to do with a digital scope or even a cheap logic analyser.And of course I sold it years ago. My frequency display is slightly off - for example if I was to be listening to a user of say 14.350.0 I would need to tune to 14.349.6 - this is the same accross all bands and all modes. What you would do to fix this is to tune in a broadcast station on a known frequency and turn on the BFO or tune the station in in CW mode. Tune the radio so that the digital indicator shows the exact frequency that the station should be on.
Adjust the master oscillator tuning capacitor until the tone zero beats with the AM carrier. You will be spot on at that point.It should have a section explaining about VFO alignment.
