The alarm shall provide optional tamper resistance that deters removal of the unit from the wall or ceiling. The unit shall include a piezoelectric horn that is rated at 85dB at 10ft. The unit shall incorporate 2 LED’s. A green LED will be constantly “ON” when AC power is present. A red LED will flash once approximately every 30-40 seconds to indicate that the smoke alarm is operating properly and will flash rapidly when the unit is alarming and will remain so until the air temperature is reduced. The unit shall incorporate a test button. The test button shall test all the electronic circuitry, horn, and battery.The alarm will sound if temperatures rise above 135?F. Once the battery is replaced, the beeping or chirping should stop. If the unit chirps at seemingly random times or at random intervals after replacing the battery, check for the following conditions: It’s possible that battery connections may not be making good contact with the battery. Disconnecting and re-connecting the battery once or twice will likely fix this condition. On units with a front-load battery, be sure that the battery compartment door is closed completely. Dust and insects can collect in the sensing chamber of the alarm. An accumulation of dust in the sensing chamber can cause the unit to chirp. It is good practice to clean the smoke alarm when you change the battery. There is a gap between the front cover and the back plate. Take a vacuum cleaner with a crevice tool and clean all around the gap area. Pay most attention to the sensor, which you will see in the gap area. When changing batteries, DO NOT Touch the disconnected AC connector, it has a huge charge and will shock you, You must discharge unit after disconnecting. I dropped mine after getting a surprise shock while changing the battery which is on the bottom and requires removing and unplugging unit. Remember not to touch the AC connection prongs while changing battery. To discharge, Press the test button after removing the unit and the battery to discharge the system.It's a simple device - the heat sensing element is in that little protrusion you can see in the picture.
It comes with a 9V battery, but unlike all the other Kidde detectors I have, you have to unmount the detector to change it. Note that when you receive the HD135F, the battery is inserted backwards in the compartment so that the terminals don't touch the contact - you'll need to turn it around (and squint to read the tiny embossed legend that tells you which terminal is positive.) Smoke alarms shall not receive their power from a circuit that is protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter. Improper connection will result in damage to the alarm, failure to operate, or a shock hazard. You may need to do this a number of times to give the carbon monoxide alarm enough time to reset. Exhaust causes permanent damage and voids the warranty. Many states now require installation of a carbon monoxide alarm inside each bedroom. For added protection, placement of an additional carbon monoxide alarm at least 15-20 feet away from the furnace or fuel burning heat sources is recommended. Install carbon monoxide alarms a minimum of 10 feet from sources of humidity like bathrooms and showers. In multiple-story dwellings, install one carbon monoxide alarm on every level. If you have a basement, install a carbon monoxide alarm at the top of the basement stairs, and in each separate sleeping area. Do not install alarms in direct sunlight, or areas subjected to temperature extremes.
These areas include unconditioned crawl spaces, unfinished attics, un-insulated or poorly insulated ceilings, and porches. Carbon monoxide alarms should not be installed in outlets covered by curtains, heavy furniture or other obstructions. Do not install in turbulent air-near ceiling fans, heat vents, air conditioners, fresh air returns, or open windows. Blowing air may prevent carbon monoxide from reaching the CO sensors. By disconnecting the AC power, it will ensure that the battery can be changed safely. It also indicates a working battery is connected to the smoke alarm. AC powered CO alarms with battery backup will chirp indefinitely (assuming AC power is present) if battery power is low (or battery is removed) until a fresh battery is installed.
