Just thought to check it earlier, and just for the last 24 hours, said that thing had gone through 3.8 GB! Ummm, my son’s 5 and that stupid tablet sat on the counter all day except for when we used it to do his school work which was all of 10 minutes. We’re replacing that thing with a regular tablet. When watching any media, when you adjust the volume to the lowest setting (before mute) it still sounds normal. I can increase it from there and it will get louder accordingly, but it’s like it’s “starting” volume is set too high. So far I’ve tried: Restarting Hard restart Restoring factory defaults Calling Amazon help line (they suggested just using headphones-not helpful) Installing quick mute volume control app, as I’ve seen it discussed a lot in my searches, however for some reason it is not compatible with this device Can anyone help. However, like any other mobile computing device, the Kindle is susceptible to viruses, malware and other things that can slow down a computer. So if your Kindle has fallen victim to these problem, restore the device to its factory settings. 1 Disconnect your Kindle from any power source and turn on the device. 2 Flip your Kindle over. Firmly place the tips of your fingers on the device's back cover and slide it to the right until you successfully remove it. 3 Straighten out a paperclip. This make-shift tool will prove invaluable in performing a hard reset. Stick your paperclip, needle or toothpick into the tiny hole and press the button. The Kindle's screen will then flash several times before the device is restored to its factory settings. Tips Only the Kindle 1 can be restored to its factory settings by removing the back of the device. Hard resets can be performed on subsequent models through a combination of keyboard commands and exterior buttons.
The feature resolves problems including business and other e-books not opening, the device freezing and not operating properly and not being able to access your Amazon account. Resetting your Kindle erases any e-books, digital magazines and personal settings you have stored on the e-book reader. You'll lose your personal settings and you'll have to create those over again. The syncing process starts immediately. Your Kindle will prompt you once the resetting process is complete. Kindle Registration To reregister your Kindle, press or tap the “Home” button. Navigate to and select “OK” to complete the registration process.

This brought my unit back to a stable state, as if I’d done a reboot or a soft reset of the device. I tried that and the screen is still frozen. Looks like it is a hardware issue with the screen being busted. Thanks for the quick reply.There's probably a website somewhere that outlines the Kindle Keyboard menu; you don't have to see it to navigate, so if you look at screenshots of the menus you could get to the reset option blind. I'm not sure what part of the screen is frozen and what happens when you hold the power button to the right. Try holding it to the right again for about 30-40 seconds, then holding the home button for a minute or so; a reset screen should appear. Quiero comprar un segundo kindle porque mis hijos me cogen el mio. Estoy en la duda entre el nuevo kindle sencillo y el paperwhite. Cuando compre el primero tuve la misma duda, pero al ver que en algunos foros los usuarios no estaban contentos con la iluminacion del paperwhite, me decante por el sencillo (de esto hara unos cuatro anos). Mi problema es que no logro que los libros bajados de sitios gratuitos al lector tengan correcta edicion en cuanto a la separacion de renglones (lo hace de a pares) como de palabras (corta la frase en cualquier lado) etc. He probado con Calibre convertilos a MOBI, AWZ3, PDF ect sin exito.
