Written in nontechnical language that’s easy to follow but very complete. I’ve bought other “GuideBooks” but this is much more detailed and complete.It may take me a long while to finish but it's the most useful tech reference I've ever used and I'm trying to absorb the information a little slowly to avoid overload. At each step so far I have iPhone in hand and try things out. Of course I'm amazed at the complexity of the iPhone and iOS 12 and now I have Pogue's book to see me through. Highly recommended.This guide is well written and consice.It is clearly updated for the new iPhone XS models. I first bought the de Leon manual which I reviewed as “useless” it’s an 84 page, large type, large spaces between lines work which doesn’t contain one one thousands of the info of this manual.The content seems good but I'm not making the headway I would if I had the book open beside me.This book is so easy to read, beautifully written and so illuminating. It's so good (and amusing) that I found myself reading it far into the night. Just finding out how to stop a thief forcing me to look at the phone (to unlock it with face recognition) is invaluable as well as other brilliant security knowledge. It is packed full of the mind-blowing features the iPhone offers, many of which I had never even dreamed of. Very well-referenced and laid out, it is quick and easy to find specific subjects. If you've shelled out over ?1,000 for an iPhone X then you need to know what it can do. Highest recommendation.An iPhone comes with virtually no documentation, and you will be totally lost without this book. My previous phone was a Nokia 3310, so I don’t think that I would have mastered the main features of my iPhone in one week without this book. Also, please consider that this book describes the iOS 12 operating system, so if you have an older iOS version, this book might be confusing. Otherwise - the full 5 stars. Huber 5.0 out of 5 stars Consequently, I read a couple of books proclaiming to be clear to the elderly or dummies, and though I am 84 and intelligent, I came away overwhelmed with with useless technical jargon and none of the basic information I sought. Then I got the Missing Manual and everything fell neatly into place. The book actually explains how to use the features of the Phone and does so in clear language. The information is well organized and complete with clear examples and there is an index that leads the redrew to information he or she might be seeking.This is all that is needed in any basic manual.But the extremely thin, light, sans serif typeface makes reading a chore rather than a pleasure. If it weren't for that major flaw, I'd give this five stars.But for me, reading this is not pleasant, despite the very useful content.It contains a world of useful information.This series is always on my must list. Many people don't really know how to use their phones or computers besides basic functions. The Missing Manual series is an excellent guide to hidden, little known features as well as explaining any changes, additions or things that were removed. Written in plain English with beautiful full color photos of the various screens and menus, this book takes you to power level.

I'm able to help because of the excellent information found in the Missing Manual books. Grab a copy for your phone, computer or software you regularly use. The tips and tricks will save you time and money. It is also entertaining because the author is naturally funny, something not ordinarily found in computer books. I see many people become frustrated with their device because they won't take the time to learn how to use it. Yes, you can go to the Apple Store, but I would rather do things myself. This book ensures the knowledge to do so.A must-read for new users like myself. I spent my first two hours just skipping around in the book, looking up things that I needed help with. Great index and TOC makes that a breeze. TBH, I only needed help with a few things but kept finding interesting side-reads about handy features that I didn't know the phone had. I'm even more excited about my new phone now. As ever, Pogue does a great job of explaining things concisely but comprehensively in plain English, with lots of helpful power-user tips thrown in. Four-color printing is a welcome and helpful improvement over the Missing Manual series for Mac OS, making the book very inviting. This book is the perfect size, too; not so huge that you won't want to pick it up, but not so thin as to be incomplete. Unless you have a pre-7 iPhone, you should get the newest edition of the book; it covers iOS 13, which runs on iPhone 7 and newer.It offers quick overviews and much deeper info if the reader wants more understanding. It is like levels 101 thru 105 and you pick how much you need to know.

I never tried to learn CSS before I have an online website and I always just did trail and error to get what I wanted and never bothered to learn what was happening and why. (A very frustrating way of doing things) Just after reading this book for a few days I now know what's going on. I'm still no expert and it will take a lot more of putting things into practice but I would recommend this book and as a reference too. I'll be looking to see if the author has Javascript next. I can't recommend it enough. CSS does seem overly complicated and not an exact science but I believe I will limit a lot of frustrations with this book.I have made more progress in one day then in the last 3 week. It is comprehensive. Adresses questions you come accross when designing a modern looking website. It is written in plain English unlike many other books. The structure is logic and you handpick things you need. The pitfall of each technique is explained and paired with an uptodate solution.This CSS one maintains the high standard of the series and gives a thorough explanation of CSS with the usual tutorials that one can follow and practice by downloading the files off the Miss website.
