Angel 5.0 out of 5 stars I had no prior experience and just wading in with very basic knowledge I've accumulated from reading investing books from my local library. This book was suggested to me by a mentor and I'm so glad he did. Book has 9 chapters solely devoted to background to help you build a sold understanding of the fixed income securities sector of the finance world. Can't wait to wow my future managers with my new-found knowledge. Wish me luck on my promotion! It starts from simpler and more basic FI products and quickly goes into more detailed and esoteric ones. The balance between the high-level picture and detail is good. I will be spending much time with this book over the next 6 months. I would highly recommend it along with the Tuckman and Bhansali books for advanced readers. The cover photo did not show it so I thought it’s American version. A bit disappointed to only find out its in the description “Asian edition”. Anyway, the book is a great book. But sorry to say I can get much better price with flipkartHas loads of information!!Requesting a refund immediately.I would, however, like to comment that the authors are saying that the page numbers have been limited by the binding limit of the book. I would like to point out that this book should be split into three volumes like Wilmott's Quantitative Finance. Then the binding will be perfect and the topics in the book can be properly split up. I completely understand that the cost will rise and so will the price, but it will be a much better production.

Daniel C 5.0 out of 5 stars I used it almost daily when working as a quant. Enormous breadth of coverage from bond math to derivatives to credit. 1500 pages of generally relevant and well-written practical advice. A must have for any fixed income trader, quant or risk manager. Most employers will gladly expense it, so get a copy. You will find a copy on pretty much every fixed income desk in the industry (including mine). Why all the hoopla? Because there is simply no other book like it. Because it is simply the most comprehensive survey of the various fixed income markets in print.
For a basic understanding of the structure and institutional aspects fixed income securities, Fabozzi is the inevitable first stop. All this being said, it is important to understand the book's weaknesses. There is relatively little depth in terms of analytics and if you want formulae you will have to look elsewhere. But for basic overviews, structural details and the orientation that is a precondition for deeper study, the Handbook is in a class by itelf. This is basically a reference book and does not go in super details in every subject but it does enough to get you started in right direction. This is a great book for anybody working in fixed income domain.I also needed help understanding the complexities of the financial instruments we are involved with (interest rate swaps, mortgage backed securities,.). This book explains mortgage backed securities, collateralized mortgage obligations, convexity, duration, how to price an interest rate swap at inception and at any point throughout the life of the swap, all without requiring the reader to possess a finance degree. At 1400 pages, it's a bargain. I just wish my version was post credit crisis. It's still relevant as a 2005 edition. It's contains way more detail than I thought. I wanted to learn more -- the market's so high now, I worry about it going south. You can't navigate the table of contents which is a very basic but crucial flaw. Either pay up for the paper version or wait until they get this fixed - this is absolutely atrocious. It's a good source for both seasoned professionals as well as students. However if you are looking for focused material, you should look into a book on the specific topic.Considering the paper copy is around 1,300 pages long, this makes it difficult to find exact spot you're looking for in the Kindle version. I would wait until McGraw-Hill fixes the electronic edition before purchasing a copy. Has anyone else out there had a problem with their Kindle version TOC?
It's supposed to be a reference book, but if you you want to understand bonds then read it all. The fixed income market has changed dramatically in the past decade. This updated classic brings you fully up to date for a much-changed world of finance, where central banks play a bigger role, interest is low (and sometimes even in negative territory), regulations are more complex, and new types of securities have been created. Brand-new chapters cover: Fixed Income Securities, Ninth Edition is a matchless, one-stop resource for all your professional needs. In such a universe neither time-series nor cross-sectional differences in risk and performance can be explained by differences in creditworthiness, as they could be in the case of a multi-issuer universe. The key message is that it is possible to identify economically justifiable strategies that, after accounting for transaction costs and other forms of trading frictions, generate excess returns from investing in a relatively homogenous set of highly correlated securities. The profitability of these strategies can be due to a reward from factor exposure, systematic predictability resulting from market inefficiencies, behavioral biases, or a combination of the above Fabozzi has authored and edited a number of books on investment management, is editor of the Journal of Portfolio Management, and serves on the board of directors of the BlackRock complex of closed end funds. My amazed bosses said it was meant to be a reference book and not to read straight through cover to cover. The chapters are logically organized and contain a good mix of theoretical and practical knowledge. Although it might have been useful to include more mathematics. I actually have the 8th edition of this book. It is a solidly written text that explains the key elements of various fixed income securities. I like to use it as a reference for my research when I am trying to get a refresher on the basics of fixed income products. However, as soon as I started reading the first page, it's a breeze. Still long. I do intend to keep on reading it as a referenced book. Its sheer size has detered me from reading it even though I got the book months ago.
