MakaI haven't and was wondering if the were any hard to find grease points, on the slewing system in particular. How do you like the machine. They are all serviced in pretty much the same way. There are a few hidden nipples(zerks).on the left hand side pod (when sat down).there is a remote greasing nipple (almost infront of you)and there are two more on the knickmatic ram well below the remote one. How do I like the machine?. A lot.very powerful for its size (the overslung boom ram (for less damage).Tracks well. Slew speed seems okay.Although it does have some quirks. Flexible exhaust section broke.(?10 of ebay for 2 meter lenght). I've never had to buy parts from Terex (BTE plant) yet sooooo.fingers crossed. Cheers RobI've never bothered changing the slew motor oil(or track motors ). I probably should do the slew motor as it contains the brake plates in the oil aswell.and I expect that they'll wear at some point. I went to a local Truck supply shop last year and asked if they had any. They had 5.and let me have them for ?20 as they didnt know what they were for and had been in stock for quite a while.(1 left now). I have been looking on ebay for a cartridge filter header and will be changing to them when I get one. Cheers RobIf you dont, it will air lock. Also, the attifreeze must be non amine and silica free (I've used the red stuff thats suitable for newer VW diesels etc) It takes a popular coopers screw on filter, I actually mounted it in a space near the hydraulic pump, by tapping some threads into the rear weight block. Ive never had to bleed the air, just turn the ignition on and leave for a couple of minutes, the pump noise will slow down when all the air has gone. How do you transport yours. I use a home made trailer behind a tractor - take care, Richard. When I removed the radiator to do the fuel tank syphon tube I just pulled the top and bottom hoses.and when I reconnected I filled it.ran it.topped it up.ran it.topped it and after 5 mins the level no longer changed. It runs cool so I'm sure I've managed to avoid an airlock and the cab heaters been on quite a lot recently. I've no idea what the antifreeze was.we buy it in 45 gall drums.but it is for wet liner engines so It should comply. I use a home made trailer behind a tractor - Merry crimbo RobThe teddys already been thrown out the pram and I'm about to spit the dummy. Rob. 2-3K but really looking for a good used or some one that can do a good recon on it. So far I have either had no response or a negative response from every engine reconer I have found. I know someone will ask so I'll tell you. The current engine is peeing out oil due to excessive crankcase pressure.I replaced the old nasty lombardini single on mine with a honda v twin and it has made it much nicer to work with. I only use it occasionally so the fuel cost is not an issue. Dick Own bio for 120k miles, solar water heating (DIY), CHP done, Solar PV, use wood cut from own trees. In U.K. near Worcester I replaced the old nasty lombardini single on mine with a honda v twin and it has made it much nicer to work with. I only use it occasionally so the fuel cost is not an issue. Dick Do you really think a twin cylinder Honda would replace one of these Jotec Outback VFX3048 and 950ah forklifts for backup, Has this been the case. If so, the rings are likely trashed due to detonation. It may be one pot or all of them You need to know how much spares are likely to be and if they are available ( they are available on the net). A four pot diesel recon set is likely megabucks before even starting a repair. Will look into that cheers. Quote from: renewablejohn on September 06, 2013, 05:50:13 PM Have you tried ktractors. No but I will now. (I have now) Quote from: jotec on September 06, 2013, 06:52:22 PM Depending on how much you use it and if you run it on 'red' consider a honda petrol. I replaced the old nasty lombardini single on mine with a honda v twin and it has made it much nicer to work with. I only use it occasionally so the fuel cost is not an issue. Dick I use it quite alot. As mentioned its a 4 cylinder that produces 33hp at 2100rpm. Not many petrol units can do that for sensible running costs. Quote from: oliver90owner on September 06, 2013, 07:38:52 PM Often a worn out diesel needs ether to start in the cold. Has this been the case.
If so, the rings are likely trashed due to detonation. It may be one pot or all of them You need to know how much spares are likely to be and if they are available ( they are available on the net). A four pot diesel recon set is likely megabucks before even starting a repair. RAB No easy start in my ownership but cant say about before. It does start easy hot or cold. In the very cold I give it two goes on the glow plugs to make it easier on the starter. Good point on it could be one pot. Will try running it on 3 cylinders to see if I can isolate the pressure. I have not been able to find any pattern recon parts on the web yet. All the specialist diesel reconers contacted so far have either said no or not replied. Oh one other point, the anti piston slap light has started to come on at lower revs when cold. Before it would come on when cold if you wanted higher rpm before it had warmed up enough. Now you need to give it a few mins before even taking it over tickover. From that I think its just the rings or bore wear. Camillitech, Is that pic from a current eBay auction? Could you enlighten me, I've driven plenty of diggers with Kubota's and Mitsubishi's in and never seen one, what does it look like I even tried Googling it. Diesel engine acting like steam train is usually hole in piston, cracked head or something equally terminal. 'Piston slap' is a condition seldom experienced on modern engines, and by modern I mean post Vietnam war, if you can hear piston slap on an engine built this century then it's well and truly fecked. Worn rings (as in all worn) on a diesel engine inevitably mean poor starting, if your wee donkey is starting well but chuffing like a train and not pishing out water then I'd be thinking perhaps hole in piston or broken rings on just one piston. Try cracking each injector and taking off the oil filler cap whilst it's running and that will tell you more, if the revs drop less on one cylinder then its likely to be a hole or broken ring.
If it drops less on two adjoining cylinders then you could be lucky with a head gasket. Rings usually end up a temporary repair as the 'lands' on the piston generally wear out faster anyway, well they would really wouldn't they, they're aluminium. Pistons, gaskets and a rebore will cost you an 'arm and a leg' yet still leave you with a 'top end' that could be warped and wanting new valves. Whenever I've been in this position I've managed to acquire a good second hand engine from somewhere else, and I HAVE been in this position several times and am quite capable of overhauling a diesel engine. Even so I wouldn't attempt it on financial grounds, perhaps if I was particularly attached to an engine but not if I were strapped for cash. A word of caution too if you do go down the piston route, make sure they are not Chinese copies, we fitted some to a shipboard generator and they melted in less than two months Good luck, Paul edit Camillitech, Is that pic from a current eBay auction. It is JM but it's German Outback VFX3048 and 950ah forklifts for backup, Dont have the manual so I am assuming its slap. Had it not just had a new set of tracks at ?1200 I would not even be considering it. That could still be an option. Or find another digger cheap that uses the same tracks. The only thing that I can think of is some kind of 'crankcase pressure' light as you suggest, does it go off if you remove the oil filler cap and thus lessen the pressure ?? Good luck, Paul Outback VFX3048 and 950ah forklifts for backup, The only thing that I can think of is some kind of 'crankcase pressure' light as you suggest, does it go off if you remove the oil filler cap and thus lessen the pressure ?? Good luck, Paul I have never tried that. Would seem to be a very misleading image if that is what it is. I have been looking for an image but cant find one. Edit to add. Could it be a hydraulic pump warning light rather than an engine warning light. Just been out.
After cleaning the grime off I now think its a hydraulic pump warning light. Might even be the tensioner,.Might even be the tensioner. I have just been running it so cracked open each injector feed pipe in turn to see if it alters the revs or pressure much. The size of the expelled oil fume cloud remains the same also. As long as you’re aware and respectful of the current protocols, you’ll be able to hit the slopes in one of the most extraordinary landscapes the world has to offer. Skiing's front-facing position gives you an ideal sight-line and a large degree of autonomy for moving your legs. Balance is also considerably easy to pick up, the ski poles acting as both a means to counterweight and propel. In snowboarding, the feet are attached to the board, restricting movement entirely. To turn the board, snowboarders must learn the essentials of balancing on the edges of their feet, the toes, and the heel. Turning the shoulders turns the hips, which turn the body and board. Though it might appear obvious, it's also worth noting that snowboarding requires the rider to be turned forever on their side. All these aspects take a lot of getting used to and, to begin with, there will be a lot of falling down - don’t be surprised or hurt if a passing skier shouts out “butt-dragger” on their way down. Fear not, they were butt-draggers once too. They also understand how winter sports like skiing and snowboarding present many psychological barriers for the newbie. These are part of the natural learning process, and instructors are adept at taking each beginner as they come. They can also offer excellent advice on rental equipment and nearby accommodation. It is highly recommended to at least have a basic awareness of the kit used on the mountainside. A base layer of wool or synthetic, worn under a wind and waterproof, soft-shell ski jacket should suffice. Consider a backpack (30-40 liters), thermos, and lip cream (the conditions can be scathing!) Hats, gloves, sunglasses, and waterproof trousers should all go without saying.

As with riding anywhere on the planet, one should always be highly aware of the dangers, be it from the terrain, the conditions, or the sport itself. Floodlighting keeps the slopes well illuminated throughout the season, meaning runs can be undertaken well into the dark, winter evenings, often admiring the Northern Lights from the mountaintops. It’s hardly surprising, given the rugged terrain of the North and the rich snow that befalls it every year. This terrain is where years of practice means something. The surrounding mountains brim with opportunities to huck cliffs, ride long powder chutes, and experience off-piste conditions like never before. The area boasts a wide variety of runs, more than enough to cover the skill spectrum, with the longest measuring up to 1200m. The resort has three tow lifts, with the highest section offering truly death-defying runs - only hit the top if you're an experienced rider! Skiing and snowboarding instructors are on hand to help establish the basics of snow sports, with flatter slopes available for those who need the extra time to build up their confidence and skill level. For four days, Akureyri plays host to skiers and snowboarders from across the planet, engaging them in a range of friendly competitions. Competitors take turns dropping in and catching big air, all in front of 7000 live spectators, a television audience, and a background fireworks display. The Burn Jib Session is a fantastic opportunity to check out which riders have truly mastered the skills necessary for urban snow sports. It’s also the perfect time to soak up the lively atmosphere of Akureyri in festival season; expect music, flaming rails, parties, and even some famous faces from the snowsports world. Firstly, several randomly positioned poles litter the run. If a rider can snag one and bring it down to the finish line, they will enter a random lottery draw, regardless of their race position.
