I bought this book because it had high reviews. Joost even wrote a section in one of the last couple of chapters. I have to start with the negative as this was what I felt through most of the book. This wasn't an easy read. Most of the time I felt like I was reading an out of touch academic book. There's not a lot of practical hands on instruction; do this, do that. I started this book excited. By chapter 5, I realized that the book was going to be that way. I just forced myself to press on. The middle of the book is good up until Chapter 24 until the end. Chapter 24 was about link building lessons from 6 SEO dudes you probably don't know. I got the feeling most of them were just writing as an advertisement for their own businesses. The last of those 6 SEOs was Mike Grehan. That dude wrote 13 of the most boring pages in this book. Finally, Chapter 25.It had a few good pieces of advice. I was very turned off by how much he spammed his webpage. It's a chapter basically begging for you to visit his site as he throws his URL at the end of almost every paragraph. It does have some ok advice here and there, but man. The book DID have a few good chapters consistently. It's almost like this book was written by 2 separate people, and it was. I just wonder who wrote what. I hope it was Eric who wrote the middle to end sections. Now for the positive. There's good advice here, it just comes late. I forced myself to push on through the whole book, and i'm glad I did. Chapter 15-23 was good. It changed my view of how backlinking should work. There's just no easy way to say it. It's all about emailing people and asking them to link to your content. The authors show how they have done that through the years. Note that this is a pure white hat linking book. I think the book could have been condensed. It would have been nice to have Eric do a walk through of something like an example campaign. I'm still not even 100 sure what a link campaign is.

Writing down all of the link prospects and keywords or something. The book didn't define it before it started talking about it. This book is like a steak with lots of fat and bone that needs to be cut. It's got good stuff, just hard to get it.Loved it and appreciated it. Only complaint is Garrett French's writing style is very difficult to understand. It was like chewing sawdust. But the intelligence in this book regarding link building is astounding so it is worth it. A must-read for anyone who wants to raise their page rank, strengthen relationships, increase website visibility and authority and better optimize for SEO.This book has allowed me to start link building on my website. The best part about it is I have already started to see a noticeable increase in views and sales from reading this book. Overall I would recommend this book. IT is a great read for anyone starting their own business! But Darn Close! It's not quite the ultimate guide though because while Eric and Garrett walk you thru their processes for effective link building there are pieces or thought processes not thoroughly explained. Parts of the book reveal methods at a high level and then leave it up to the reader figure out how to apply them. Granted every market, niche, and industry are unique thus requiring different approaches, vocabulary, and assets. However it would've been extremely helpful to have 5-10 consistent examples throughout the book of major markets so the differences in approach and application of link building methods was more clear. Even without the examples though the book is excellent and a must read for anyone looking to rank their site in the SERPS and drive a lot of non-paid traffic. While not easy, this is a critical part of successful SEO.How many other SEO books can say the same. None that I have found yet.Must read if your business needs more Internet leads and sales.

Essential reading for anyone doing SEO or anyone that has a website that they want other people to know about. It is a go to resource when you are looking for link building ideas and has wonderful chapters on using content to build links and how scale up your link building. I am a seasoned SEO professional with over 10 years experience in the field and this is still one of my favourite books and has followed me to three different roles. The chapters on keyword research and looking for link prospects, pain point research and relationship building are all great. I have used many of the approaches successful over the years. Well worth the price.Haven't finished it yet. Hopefully some of the techniques and concepts will still be applicable by the time I get around to using them. Still, my slow reading pace can hardly be used against the book. It's all about links, good ones. It's annoying, I wish I'd known about this guy 15 years ago. Get the free guide now Link Building For SEO: The Definitive Guide (2021) Common link building strategies include content marketing, building useful tools, email outreach, broken link building and public relations. And they ranked their search results 100 based on the content on a webpage. Instead of simply analyzing the content of a page, Google looked at how many people linked to that page. Nearly 20 years later, links are STILL the best way to determine the quality of a webpage. That’s why backlinks remain Google’s go-to ranking signal. And how do I build them? If so, that link is going to have a BIG impact on your rankings. Enter any URL from the site into the tool and check out the site’s “DomainRating”. Will that link still count? If so, that’s an editorial link. That’s not an editorial link. That site used the anchor text: “paleo desserts”. The page they’re linking to must be about “paleo desserts.” Today, building lots of exact-match anchor text links is considered spammy.

But if you DO get a link with your keyword in the anchor text, it’s time to celebrate. So why wouldn’t Google use it? In my experience, that link CAN help you rank. For example, when you publish a chart on your site, you get a link anytime someone shares that chart on their site. This powerful “share my image and link to me when you do” relationship simply doesn’t work for text-based content. That’s the power of creating visual assets. When someone cites your data, they link to you. These links add up QUICKLY. This makes your guide THE go-to resource for that topic. Check out Chapter 2 ). It’s a black hole. Combing through this list is going to be a pain. I personally don’t recommend black hat link building (the risk doesn’t come close to justifying the reward). But it’s up to you. That said, the easiest way to avoid Penguin is to avoid shady links (regardless of anchor text). Unlike Penguin, Google will send you a message via the Google Search Console: My take is that an algorithm spots a website that’s potentially gaming the system. And they bubble that site up to someone at Google for a manual review. So the best way to avoid a manual penalty is to have a squeaky-clean link profile. They’re designed specifically to unearth resource pages: Looks like a winner! And have a great day! You can use a script as long as it doesn’t LOOK like a script. So feel free to use the search strings above to bring up resource pages. But in her words: “ No matter how awesome my content was, no links came. ” Here it is: People won’t link to your content unless they know it exists, and they won’t know it exists unless you tell them about it.” So I followed the steps that I outlined in the last chapter. But the hard work paid off. That’s when Matt realized that he could use content to generate links to his ecommerce site. He promoted his content via email outreach: But it doesn’t always happen. BuzzSumo works great.

Just like with link reclamation, a friendly email can turn many of these opportunities into links. But that would have made my content much less shareable. Instead of personalizing outreach messages that no one will ever read, send brief “feeler” emails. Or maybe you have a question about something. As such I never finished it until a friend sent me an actual physical version of the second edition. It will use assets belonging to the website in order to acquire those links, and an asset can be anything from content and news to products and services.Much will depend on a combination of your available assets and resources.Knowing the goals of your campaign right at the start helps to ensure that you create a strategy that gives you the best possible chance of success. You also need to ensure that the goals of your link building campaign tie in closely with the overall goals of your business. We learned earlier that links are a strong part of the search engine ranking algorithms. So, wouldn't hitting a goal of more links help with rankings. Helping with rankings helps drive more traffic and this helps bring more customers, right.

All of this is true, but the problem is that it can sometimes take time for the links you've built to start having an overall positive effect on rankings. It isn't as simple as build links one day and see improvements the next. This is particularly true in competitive industries. For example, you may want to increase organic search traffic in order to drive more sales. At the same time, you need to educate those around you that SEO and link building doesn't succeed overnight and that results are not instantaneous. Like any good marketing, the focus should be on long-term gains, not overnight quick-wins. Assets will vary from business to business and you need to identify which assets your business has that will be of interest to others and can be used in link building. Obviously, all assets will probably require an investment of some kind, but these SEOs approach link acquisition as a pure cash transaction. Buying links is strictly against Google's guidelines, and if a website is caught engaging in this practice, it can mean a heavy penalty and loss of traffic. Buying links is risky and usually the risks will outweigh the potential loss, so we strongly recommend against it. Aleyda Solis put together an in-depth walkthrough that's worth a look. There are various types to consider: Identifying what types of links you need will start with a detailed link analysis of your current website as well as a look at how you rank for certain keywords in comparison to your competitors. You can use Open Site Explorer to run this kind of analysis and see what your link profile currently looks like. For example, you may see that you're not ranking for one of your main keywords. After doing some link analysis, you find that you have no links pointing to your website that contain this keyword, or, you find that the most relevant deep page has no links at all pointing at it. If you identify something like this, you have a tangible problem that you can work to resolve.

In this case, it may mean that your strategy includes trying to build links to the deep page that currently doesn't have any links and doesn't rank for your target keywords. If you contact people randomly, your response rate will be a lot lower, and you're likely to give yourself and your website a bad reputation. If you create a piece of content that you want links to, such as an infographic, you should ask yourself right at the start of the process who will care about it. More importantly, who will care enough to actually link to it? While you may find it quite easy to get people look at your content, it is a whole new level of engagement for them to actually link to it. Linking to something requires a bit of effort and time, so you need to make someone care enough for them to not mind doing this. The barrier for getting your content shared on social networks is much lower. More people have a Twitter or Facebook account than a website or blog, making it easier for them to share. You need to work this hook into your content right from the start. If you put off creating your hook until the moment you begin your outreach, you may discover that no one cares about the point of your content, the result being that you will have devoted a lot of time to crafting content no one wants to link to. Note down what characteristics each link has and try to find patterns. Chances are that links shared on Facebook are funny, because many people use this platform for personal stuff and may not share more serious stuff there, with the exception of big news or controversial topics. Now go and take a look at your Twitter feed, note down which types of links are being shared there and ask yourself why. You may find that more long-form, informative content is shared on Twitter than on Facebook. Generally, you just need to brainstorm subjects related to your content. Let's take a look at an example.
