Afterwards I was determined I would pass the second try, so I ordered this book due to good reviews. I read this book cover to cover and loved the tips it had for people like me with test anxiety. Included were reviews of the different theories of development, such as Piaget and Erikson, which was good for me as I have been out of school for several years working as a vocational counselor for individuals with disabilities.For example, the department of education guide suggested that I study the history of the profession but nothing was covered in the mometrix book. The same for counseling theory, the foundations of ASCA or the ASCA themes. I'm upset that I had to pay to get it shipped to me and to ship it back when the product did not deliver what it advertised.I'm indifferent about it though. There are A LOT of typos in throughout the book. It's like they would start to write a sentence, then change the wording after two words and start a new sentence. Anyways though, most of it seems to be common sense. Just follow the ETS website's tips and contents of the test. Take any practice test you can find multiple times and review notes in areas where you feel less competent. Breathe, you'll do just fine!This book is written in a confusing manner, talks in circles and repeats itself. Its simply 100 pages of how to be a good school counselor in common sense language (which you should know by now), aka be a good person and listen to your students. You're better off taking the practice test of ETS and using their sample study guide. This was a huge waste of my time and money. Hope this helps!Not sure if anything really stood out about this book. I guess that is a lot of info in one place, but as I mentioned it was just a compilation of everything we've learned in school.Also, in the section about tic disorders it states, “counselors should initially garner enough information to accurately diagnose the condition”. Anyone who is studying school counselors knows that it’s a HUGE no no for counselors to diagnose anything. That is grounds for firing.
There was also another part in the book where the authors started a sentence and completely changed in the middle of the sentence so it grammatically made no sense. Just these errors alone really diminish the validity of this textbook. Unfortunately I purchased it despite some not so great reviews because this was the only study guide I could find for this test. The vertical perforation is ok, but the horizontal ones are lacking big time. Spending about as much time to rip them apart as I am studying is not an even trade!Several are missing parts to what they say they answer. For example, one card starts by talking about the sentences in front of it but there ae no sentences.They are much too wordy for flash cards.
The idea is great but the execution is not there. I ended up finding free sets on Quizlet and used those.The reason I enjoy this product is because it is easy to take on the go to study in any location. For example, I can use these flashcards to study at home, work, or when I am waiting at the doctor's office. In addition, the information presented on each flashcard is very thorough. This flashcard system gives me confidence towards my upcoming Praxis II exam.I could travel them in my purse. It is in the 4 main categories which help me to understand the materials better and to retain the information the correct wayI had a lot of confidence going into the exam which help keep my text anxiety low. Some cards contained answers unrelated to the card's question. Many cards had typos, which doesn't effect their effectiveness, but annoyed me.
