Be award that if you live in an area where the humidity is above 40, this thing is just a very expensive fan, and will not cool at all. It has has nice features, including a variable night time setting, and an oscillating grille. On low and medium, the fan is fairly quiet, and still moves a decent amount of air. On high, it is fairly loud. With a full tray of water, it will go at least 8 hours without running dry, but that's not necessarily a good thing. Not as much evaporation means not as much cooling. To work well, this unit really needs about 4x as much evaporative surface area. If I get bored, I may find some aspen padding and try it out. That would hopefully improve the rate of evaporation, which would make it cool better. As it is, I would estimate it might drop the temp by as much as 5 degrees on medium, and perhaps a few more on high, but I've never checked. And that's with ambient humidity around 10. Not terribly good performance for an evaporative cooler. That said, if you can aim it right at yourself, and run it on low or medium, it does provide a nice cool breeze, and allows me to work comfortably in a room that reaches into the upper 80's later in the afternoon. This unit does NOT cool the room noticeably. On high, the air is moving too quickly through the cooling pad to drop any heat at all. I won't say I expected more, but I did HOPE for more. I don't think a good portable swamp cooler exists, unfortunately. I'm sure the mfg is happy that they tray lasts all day, but I'd rather fill it more often and get a decent temperature drop out of the thing.I however am currently using this product in a far away land in the dessert were relative humidity is equal to the dust in your grandma's china hutch. It works exactly as an evaporative cooler should. The fact that I purchased a reconditioned unit and saved a bunch of coin is in itself a total win. Sorry to those folks who were not happy with it.

Having lived and worked in some of the most underdeveloped countries in the world, this took me by surprise.Just to reiterate the obvious: THIS IS NOT AN AIR CONDITIONER.In closing, for the money I paid and the performance of the product, I will have to say this is worth to purchase if you have done your research and know exactly what you need and what an evaporative cooler is capable of.Did not return the product before the 30 day deadline and SPT will not pay for any shipping to repair or replace. The customer service representative at SPT wanted me to take the product apart to tell him what was wrong with it despite my telling him that if I remove the screws the entire assembly would fall out. He did not know how the product was put together. I took a chance on an unfamiliar brand and I will take the loss. Amazon has been totally unhelpful even after I have been a customer for decades and have NEVER returned anything in that entire time period. Wayfair is the new kid on the block and I will shop there first from now on.This thing does a good job of cooling of a single spot, the problem is you have to constantly fill it with water and ice for it to be effective. It does not cool off a small room and if you live in a humid place like myself (Ontario humidity varies from 40-80 percent in the summer) then this is nothing more than an expensive fan. Luckily Amazon has a great refund policy and I purchased an 8000 BTU refurbished portable AC from a local shop for 50 dollars cheaper and it does 1000 times better of chilling my room ice cold. I use it everyday to add humidity in my plant room so it is on all the time. I now keep a tray under the unit to catch the water leaking out of the unit but this is not the way this unit should be set up. Our choices may have been different a month or even a week later, due to the availability of more newly released books and journals. We have attempted to assemble a well-balanced collection of allied health books and journals geared specifically to allied health personnel whenever possible. Most of the publications are of U.S. origin, but there are also some British and Canadian publications, especially in the journal collection. As the title of this list implies, only books and journals in print format have been included. We have not covered the autonomous professions such as: chiropractic, dentist, nurse, physician, optometrist, pharmacist, osteopath, and veterinarian. Our scope of content and format has also been defined in the nine previous introductions that precede the book and journal lists. They are cited on the first page at the bottom of this article. Academic and health sciences librarians, nurses, and allied health faculty have contributed many suggestions that were greatly appreciated. However, the final choices for the books and journals in this list are ours —based upon many years of reviewing health sciences literature. A distinct literature for some allied health programs may not exist. Many programs rely heavily upon books in the basic and behavioral sciences and surgery, as well as standard medical texts and journals. All of the books that we have picked have been published from 1995 through 2003; only thirty-seven were published before 1998, and 91.5 from 1998 to date. We have chosen the most current books available, because rapidly changing technology has a strong impact on many allied health professions and occupations. As a result, older books usually do not appear in this list, but they may have appeared in earlier versions. Nearly 24 of the titles in the 2003 book list have been changed from the 2000 list. We realize that “new” does not necessarily mean “better,” but current literature has a priority in this setting.
The journals remain relatively stable from list to list. However, we added two titles: Journal of Hand Therapy and Occupational Ergonomics. The bibliographic and price information quoted here is as accurate as we could obtain at the time the manuscript was submitted, but price increases are likely over time. Whenever member and nonmember prices exist, we have used higher nonmember prices. Other prices are publishers' traditional list prices. Subscription prices are quoted at institutional rates. Due to the diversity of the subjects covered in this list, most people will probably not want to purchase all of the publications but instead will use the list selectively for subjects pertinent to their particular situations. Table 1 shows the approximate cost for each subject section of the book list. Overall total figures and average costs for this list are not as meaningful as those that we have compiled for the small medical library and for nursing, because it is not likely that all these allied health publications would ever be purchased totally as a collection. This list represents the literature of several professions, not just one. Two additional subject headings have been added to the book list: Health Aide and Neuroscience.
