The following is a brief description of all the features located on the control panel. POWER SWITCH - Slide the power switch to the middle, ON setting, to turn the piano on. During or immediately after a note or notes have been played on the key- board, roll the PITCH BEND wheel up, away from you, to raise the pitch, or down, towards you, to lower the pitch of the note(s) played. It will display the voice, accompaniment type and other parameter changes in real time. SELECT TRANSPOSE 001: Grand Pno REVERB VOICE TUNING CHORUS TOUCH VOICE STYLE TEMPO PAGE. The display will show the song number with a “d” prefix. When playing all the songs, “ALL” will appear on the dis- play initially, and will change to the demo song number as it plays. For dynamic effect you may select from 10 different drum kits. Please note, when using the number pads, you must enter two digits to select a style number from 00-99. These auto accompaniments create fully orchestrated rhythm, bass and chord progressions based on the chords that you play with your left hand. The selected rhythm style determines the characteristics of the auto accompaniment. Press the CHORD DISPLAY button, the chord display icon will be underlined in the display screen. It allows you to play the chords in the auto accompaniment section of the keyboard that produce the selected auto accompaniment pattern. Please note, if a chord played cannot be recognized (fingered beyond the table), the previous chord will keep playing. You are not limited to the auto accompani- FINGERED ment section or the range of the split point. Press the SYNCH STOP button to engage the synchronized stop mode, the indicator will light up. Start the rhythm style, SYNC STOP after you begin to play in the accompaniment section of the. The SELECT button will access a menu for Transpose, Tuning, Touch sensitivity, Percussion mode and drum kit selection, Reverb and reverb level, Chorus and chorus level, and Harmony and harmony type selection, the After Touch level, and Vocal prompting. Transposing the pitch of the keyboard makes it easier to play in difficult key signatures. Please note, transpose does not affect notes that are sounding, or the keyboard percussion. The tuning feature makes it possible to tune the pitch of the instrument in fine intervals. If necessary, you can match the piano to another instrument or singer. These are also known as velocity or dynamic curves and are designed to suit your style of playing. The normal setting is selected automatically when the piano is turned on. These voices are graphically depicted above the keys. There are ten drum kits, based on the Standard Kit, that can be assigned. Kit 10 is a sound effects kit. The reverb effect is engaged automatically when the power is turned on. You can switch the reverb feature on and off or change the level of reverb from the Select controls menu.

Use the Select controls menu to engage the chorus effect and the level of chorus. When chorus has been engaged the chorus icon will appear on the display screen. There are three types of harmony that can be selected. To engage the after touch AFTER feature press the AFTER TOUCH button, the after touch icon will TOUCH. The training system will evaluate your performance and give a vocal comment, with a screen display of your percentage correct. The grading values are, “OK”, “Good”, “Very good”, and “Excellent”. There are six one touch settings for each rhythm style. The selected one touch settings may be edited to create a unique setting of your own, and then saved in the registration memory. This piano has 24 registration memories, four banks each with six registra- tions, for your favorite settings to be saved and recalled quickly by pressing a button. The unit is equipped with a backup battery, so the data in the registration memory is non- volatile and will not be lost when the power is turned off. PAIGE Press the number button 1-6 buttons that corresponds to the registration memory in the selected bank that you desire. It will record all note events and the accompaniment flow exactly as they are performed. This recorded information is nonvolatile and therefore will not be lost when the power is turned off. MEL 1 MEL 2 Please note, turn the fingering mode to off when recording on a. Press the track buttons that you wish to hear, if there is recorded information the indicator will light up. If the indicators of the recorded tracks are lit up and if you do not wish to hear a track, press the corresponding track button to turn that track off. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense. 4 TAKING CARE OF YOUR DIGITAL PIANO This Suzuki keyboard will supply you with years of musical enjoyment if you follow the simple rules listed below. LOCATION Do not expose the instrument to the following conditions to avoid deformation, discoloration, or more serious damage. Direct sunlight (near a window) High temperatures (near a heat source, outside, or in a car during the daytime) Excessive humidity Excessive dust Strong vibration A C POWER CORD Turn the power switch off when the instrument is not in use. Unplug the AC power cord during an electrical storm. Avoid plugging the AC adaptor into the same AC outlet as appliances with high power consumption, such as electric heaters or ovens. TURN POWER OFF WHEN MAKING CONNECTIONS To avoid damage to the instrument and other devices to which it is connected, turn the power switches of all related devices off prior to connection or disconnection of MIDI cables. HANDLING AND TRANSPORT Never apply excessive force to the controls, connectors or other parts of the instrument. Always unplug cables by gripping the plug firmly, not by pulling on the cable. Disconnect all cables before moving the instrument. CLEANING Clean the cabinet and panel with a dry soft cloth. A wax based polish may be used on the cabinet, although you will find that rubbing with a soft cloth will usually suffice. Do not use paint thinner or petrochemical based polishes. Avoid placing vinyl objects on top of the instrument, vinyl can stick to and discolor the surface. To maintain the luster of the keys and buttons wipe with a clean, lightly dampened cloth, and then polish with a soft dry cloth. ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE This instrument contains digital circuitry and may cause interference if placed too close to radio or television receivers.
If interference occurs, move the instrument further away from the affected equipment. Do not switch the unit on and off in quick succession, this places an undue load on the electronic components. SERVICE AND MODIFICATION Opening and tampering with a digital piano can lead to irreparable damage. Please note, to prevent possible damage due to battery leakage, remove the batteries from the instrument if it is not to be used for an extended period of time. Battery leakage is not covered under the Suzuki warranty. USING THE AC POWER ADAPTOR - Plug the output cable of the supplied power adaptor into the DC 12V IN jack on the back of the unit. Then plug the input of the power adaptor into a convenient AC power outlet. The internal batteries will be automatically disconnected when the AC power adapter is used. Please note, make sure that you only use the recommended power adapter, if you are unsure of which adapter to use, please check with your Suzuki dealer. DC 12V USING BATTERIES - For battery operation this piano requires eight 1.5V (R14), “C” cell batteries. When the batteries need to be replaced the volume may be reduced, the sound may distort, or other problems may occur. If this happens, turn the power off and replace the batteries. Please note, when batteries are used, the sound of the piano may distort at high volume levels. This is because the power of the amplifier is reduced as the batteries drop in voltage. 1. OPEN W TO REPLACE THE BATTERIES 1. Open the battery compartment cover located on the instruments bottom panel. 2. Insert eight new batteries, be careful of the polarity. Please note, when the batteries run down, replace them with a complete set of eight new batteries. Never mix old and new batteries and do not use different kinds of batteries at the same time. 3. OPEN W THE MUSIC STAND - Insert the bottom edge of the music stand into the slots located at the rear of the control panel. MASTER VOLUME MAX POWER ON OFF TURN THE PIANO ON AND ADJUST THE VOLUME - Slide the POWER switch to the on position, and adjust the MASTER VOLUME. The following is a brief description of all the features located on the control panel. 8 1. POWER SWITCH - Slide the power switch up to the ON setting, to turn the piano on. Slide the power switch down to the OFF setting to turn the piano off. 2. MASTER VOLUME - Use this sliding control button to adjust the overall volume of the keyboard. Slide the button up to increase the volume and down to decrease the volume. 3. ACCOMP (ACCOMPANIMENT) CHORD - Most of the rhythm styles have an additional auto accompaniment, often called the auto bass chord. These accompaniments are dedicated to the selected rhythm style, and will create fully orchestrated rhythm, bass and chord accompaniments, based on the chord that you play with your left hand. The ACCOMP sliding control button selects the auto accompaniment mode. With this function engaged, the keys to the left side of the split point are the auto accompaniment section of the keyboard, while the keys to the right are available for normal playing. The auto accompaniment fingering modes are single, fingered, or off. Slide the ACCOMP button until it is adjacent to the fingering mode you want. Please see the Auto Accompaniment section of this manual for more information. If the metronome is engaged, use these buttons to adjust the metronome sound. Press one of the ACCOMP VOLUME buttons, the current accompaniment volume will appear on the display. The indicator light will be lit when kit B is active. 6. QUICK SELECT STYLE BUTTONS - There are twenty rhythm styles that can be selected quickly by pressing one of the Ten Quick Select Style Buttons. These styles are assigned to kit A and kit B. Each kit consists of ten styles.

The style name in the kit A is printed above the style select button and the style name in kit B is beneath the button. The style number will be shown on the display for three seconds. Please see the Rhythm section of this manual for more information. 9 PANEL CONTROLS POP 1 DANCE TECH. When you press the METRO button, the metronome will be engaged, the metronome sound will replace the percussive rhythm sound. Any change to the tempo will also affect the metronome. Press the METRO button to stop the metronome sound and disengage the metronome. Please see the Select Controls section of this manual for more information. 8. PERCUSSION (DRUM KIT) - Press the PERCUSSION button to engage the keyboard percussion mode. When the keyboard percussion mode is engaged, the keys will play the percussion voices from the selected drum kit. The keys will not be available for normal play. There are five drum kits from which to choose, please see the listing at the back of the manual. Please see the Select Controls section of this manual for more information.Press the ONE TOUCH button to engage the one touch mode, the indicator light will go on, and the settings will be changed based on the selected rhythm style. With the one touch feature engaged any change in the rhythm style will automatically select ideal keyboard settings for that style. Press the ONE TOUCH button again, so the indicator goes off, to disengage. Please see the Select Controls section of this manual for more information. 10. DISPLAY - This Suzuki piano is equipped with a numeric LCD display. It will display any of the features or functions of the piano that you are currently adjusting, the voice number, accompaniment type or other parameter changes, in real time. After three seconds the display will return to the default display, the piano voice number. The lit orchestration edit indicator shows which part voice is currently displayed.
BEAT INDICATOR - There is also a three dot beat indicator within the display that will flash in time to the tempo and beat of the selected rhythm style when it is engaged. When the indicator is lit, the voice number will be shown on the display, and the voice will be available for selection, this is the default setting. Press button so that the indicator is not lit, the style number will be shown on the display, and the style will be available for selection, after three seconds the button will revert to voice selection. There is a complete list of all 128 voices and 100 rhythm styles listed in the back of this manual and on the piano cabinet. Please see the Keyboard Voices section or the Rhythm section of this manual for more information. There are twenty four voices that can be selected quickly by pressing one of the twelve quick select voice buttons, when voice direct is engaged. These voices are assigned to kit A and kit B. Each kit consists of twelve voices. The voice name in the kit A is printed above the voice select button and the voice name in kit B is beneath the button. The voice number will be shown on the display. Please see the Keyboard Voices section of this manual for more information. ORCHESTRATION (L1, L2, R1, R2) - The ORCHESTRATION group lets you select and play from one to four parts at the same time using a variety of orchestrations. One of the pianos 128 voices can be assigned to each part, L1, L2, R1,and R2. Use the L1, L2, R1,and R2 buttons to turn their respective voices on and off. A lit indicator shows that voice part is on. Use the EDIT button to select the orchestration part voice that you want to change. Please see the Orchestration section of this manual for more information. 14. SYNC (SYNCHRONIZED) START - Synchronized Start mode makes the auto accompaniment standby. Press the SYNC START button and the indicator will light up. The tempo lights in the display will flash to the beat of the selected rhythm style.
The rhythm style will start as soon as you play in the auto accompaniment section of the keyboard. The auto accompaniment will start with the first recognized chord played in the auto accompaniment section of the keyboard, depending on which fingering mode is selected. As soon as you press this button, the rhythm of the introduction will start followed by the main pattern. Every style has an ending pattern. You can insert a fill-in during the ending to stop the ending and return to the main pattern. 17. FILL IN - The fill-in provides the accompaniment with a short rhythm pattern of one or two measures for each style. Press the FILL IN button at any time while the accompaniment is playing to add a fill-in. If you hold down the FILL IN button, the fill-in pattern will repeat until the button is released, then the main pattern will play from the beginning of the next measure. If variation is selected the engaged rhythm style will proceed to the variation rhythm pattern. 18. VARIATION - All of the 100 rhythm styles include a variation of that style that can be played simply by engaging the VARIATION button. The indicator light will be lit when kit B is active. QUICK SELECT VOICE - When the VOICE DIRECT button is engaged, there are twenty four voices that can be selected quickly by using one of the twelve buttons of the numeric pad as quick select voice buttons. The voice number for the selected orchestration part will be shown on the display. After three seconds the display will recover to the selected voice number. There is a three-dot beat indicator within the display. It indicates the tempo and beat for the accompaniment that is playing. Please see the Select Controls section of this manual for more information. 22.
TRANSPOSE - The transpose feature can shift the pitch of the keyboard up or down in semitone intervals up to a maximum of 12 semitones, one octave. Transposing the pitch of the keyboard makes it easier to play in difficult key signatures. TOUCH - This piano offers four types of keyboard touch sensitivity settings, soft, normal, hard, and off. These are also known as velocity or dynamic curves and are designed to suit your style of playing. The TOUCH button is engaged and the normal setting is selected automatically when the piano is turned on. Curve 1 (Hard) is a less sensitive keyboard response which requires a heavier touch to obtain maximum sound levels. Curve 2 (Normal) is an intermediate response suitable for most styles of music. Normal is the default setting. Curve 3 (Soft) is the most sensitive keyboard response which permits maximum sound levels with a light touch. Off does not offer any touch sensitivity. Each key plays at full volume no matter how hard the piano key is hit. It is commonly used on Harpsichord and Organ voices. Please see the Select Controls section of this manual for more information. 16 24. TUNE - The pitch of this piano is very accurate and stable, it is automatically set to standard A440 pitch when the piano is turned on. The tuning feature makes it possible to tune the pitch of the instrument in fine intervals. If necessary, you can match the piano to another instrument or singer. Please see the Select Controls section of this manual for more information. 25. DEMO - This piano has two different demonstration songs that are designed to showcase the pianos ability. Use the DEMO button to turn the songs on and off. Please see the Select Controls section of this manual for more information. ORCHESTRATION One of the most valuable features on the piano is the orchestration feature that lets you play and edit up to four voices at once.
The ORCHESTRATION button group allows the user to assign up to four keyboard voices using a variety of orchestration settings. One of the pianos 128 voices can be assigned to each part. There are two buttons for each side of the keyboard, two buttons for the left, L1 and L2, and two buttons for the right, R1 and R2. The four available parts are turned on and off by the L1, L2, R1, and R2 buttons. The indicators on the outside of each of these buttons tell you which parts are on and which are off, and thereby indicate the current orchestration mode. Use the EDIT button to select the indicators on the inside of the L1, L2, R1, and R2 buttons. They show which voice part is currently on the display, and so, selected for change if desired. EDIT INDICATOR ORCHESTRATION PART BUTTON L1 L2 ORCHESTRATION ORCHESTRATION PART INDICATOR L2 ORCHESTRATION L1 R2 L2 R1 R2 ORCHESTRATION EDIT BUTTON THE EDIT FUNCTION - The indicators inside the L1, L2, R1, and R2 buttons are for the edit button. Repeatedly pressing the EDIT button makes the inside edit indicators light up in a clockwise sequence. When an edit indicator is lit, that orchestration part is available for voice selection, the current voice number will show on the display. When you press a voice orchestration part button, L1, L2, R1, or R2, the edit indicator for that part will also light and you can select a different voice for that part. The orchestration EDIT button is used to select the voice part, L1, L2, R1, or R2, that you want to change, the part does not have to be turned on. EDIT BUTTON L1 R1 R1 1. Press the EDIT button until the edit indicator for the part you want to change lights up. There is a complete list of all the available voices listed in the back of this manual and on the piano cabinet. Please see the Keyboard Voices section for more information on selecting a voice. 17 ORCHESTRATION ORCHESTRATION MODES - There are a number of variations on the below orchestrations.
The L1, L2, R1, and R2 orchestration buttons are used to set up the exact type of orchestration you want. Single is one voice over the entire keyboard. Dual is two voices simultaneously over the entire keyboard. Split is different voices for the left and right portions of the keyboard. Please note, the ACCOMP CHORD sliding button must be in the OFF position when engaging the single mode or the auto accompaniment manual base chord will play on the left side of the keyboard. If the rhythm style or the auto accompaniment is engaged it it will override the L1 or the L2 orchestration parts. SINGLE VOICE MODE - In the single mode, either the R1 or the R2 part voice can be played over the entire keyboard. The R1 and R2 single voice modes are selected simply by pressing either the R1 or the R2 button. If the L1 or the L2 indicator is lit, press that button so that the indicator turns off. Please note, make sure that the ACCOMP CHORD control is in the off position or the accompaniment manual bass chord will play on the left side of the keyboard. R1 L1 L2 R2 ORCHESTRATION R1 The voice assigned to R1 is played across the entire keyboard. R1 L1 L2 R2 ORCHESTRATION R2 The voice assigned to R2 is played across the entire keyboard. DUAL VOICE MODE - Dual, or layer, refers to an additional voice that is tone mixed with the selected keyboard voice. In the dual mode, both the R1 and the R2 part voices are selected, so they can be played together across the entire keyboard. To select the dual mode make sure that both the L1 and L2 indicators are out, then press both the R1 and the R2 buttons simultaneously, or hold one down while pressing the other. You can switch back to the single voice mode by simply pressing the R1 or the R2 button again, to turn that part off. In the right hand section one voice will sound and in the left hand section a different voice can be assigned.
