Brought the units from Standard tv.in Portland. And it appears that they don't stand by the product, nor their service.Compared to our old one (which shall remain nameless) it is like day after night. So far, it's working well. We had a problem with the fan last month but the repairmen found a lot of sawdust in that area which probably caused the problem. No issues since the repair. We use the convection feature more than the microwave. It's handy for baking smaller portions instead of heating up the big oven. The inside (back wall) has been a little challenging Basic cooking and defrosting has been fine (haven't explored all the settings yet). It has a good capacity, easy controls, effective, adjustable venting and lighting. INSTALLER: Please leave these Installation Instructions with this unit for the owner. Send a Houzz Gift Card. Can't seem to see where the bulb is. Looked in the owners manual, nothing about changing a bulb. CALLED BOSCH. Got put on hold for 5 mins, then service agent apologized for having no information in their systems on how to change the bulb. Was told that I'd need to pay a factory technician to come out to disassemble the unit in order to replace the bulb. I have had at least two service calls through the years to replace the light bulb. I was also told it is not serviceable by the end-user. I have also had the the pull down door tension break at least 3 times but that is another topic for another day! On both units, the heat output of the right front burner drops from 15K BTU to 13.5K BTUs, which is notable if not huge. However, on the power burner in the center, the output drops from 18K to 12.5K (yikes!) on the 800 series, yet on the Benchmark it drops only from 20K to 17K with propane. So the Benchmark gives you a very decent-- if not awesome-- power burner even with propane, while the 800 series gives you just one relatively anemic 13.5 burner as your most powerful option. True, the Benchmark includes a sliding oven rack and soft-close door, but those bells are irrelevant to me. It got excellent reviews for performance and reliability and has four 19K burners, even with propane.True, the oven is gas and not self-cleaning, but that's a trade off I'm OK with. Moreover, the electronic panel on the Bosch seems vulnerable being so close to the oven door and susceptible to the intense heat of a self-cleaning cycle..See More Thermador Freedom Induction cook top vs.
I was concerned about having to walk around the open door going to the counter as I pulled stuff out of the oven but those that own these ovens say it is a non issue and to remember that the door is half the size of the regular one that we have to lean over. I then went to the appliance store and played with the doors open and it appears that it won't be an issue for me. It also has a large capacity. I also suggest this when shopping for dishwashers. Take your plates and big things that you will want to put in it. I currently have a Bosch, which came with the house, and I don't like it as I can't fit as much into it as my previous Kenmore Elite dishwashers. I hear that most people who are dissatisfied with the Bosch dishwashers is because of their small capacity or that they don't dry well. Any dishwasher that does not have a heating element aren't going to dry well (especially plastic) except if you let the steam stay in the dishwasher for a long time. I start my dishwasher just before heading to bed to insure that things get dry. And yes, today's dishwashers take forever to do a load. It is the nature of the beast mainly because of the cycle needing to dry. Right now, I don't have one that I'm leaning towards. I'd probably look at Kenmore Elites again. I've had a few of those in different houses and have been happy as family members have, too. Even if Sears goes belly-up, I don't think repairs will be an issue. But I think I'd revisit the Kitchenaids as they seem to hold more than most and have a good rack configuration (another thing to consider). I'm not sure about the Samsung's. I think at this point, they need to prove themselves a bit more as far as performance based on what I had read previously. But when I'm back in the market would review them again as they seem to be the most innovative which I don't know if that is good or bad. In previous homes, I've had motion sink faucets and really miss having one in this house.
I would highly recommend having one of those. I also have had 1 HP garbage disposals. Highly recommend. Can throw anything down those suckers without any problems. I saw one You Tube that showed a guy taking a tree branch and shoving it down the disposal. He wanted to know if you really could. I was in the deciding stage on these when the remodel was put on hold ( truthfully, I can't decide if I want to live where we currently are) and was looking at Sub-Zero and the GE Monogram. I have a side by side Monogram and have had a Sub-Zero side by side. No problems with either and current one is 18 yrs old and the SZ was 24 yrs old with no problems when I sold the house. SZ told me that their fridges last about 20 yrs which I heard is about the life of the Monogram. There is a houzzer here who highly recommends the Fridgadair columns ( I believe that is the one) but I looked at it and I felt there was a big difference in quality. Just opening it, it felt flimsy. But at more than half the price it is what it is. I think I covered everything but if I missed anything or if you have any questions, just shout out..See More Ovens, combi-steam, microwave: Time to commit Q Comments (14) Normally if I am doing onsen tamago, I will do steam 165 for about 20-25min. When I crack those, the whites will be like a very delicate white custard, and the yolk will be just solidified, but still the same color of runny yolk. That is my favorite yolk personally - it's like a intensified yolk flavor with the rich texture of ganache. I usually crack that into bowl, and there will be some loose white that cooked onto the inside of the shell that I scrape out with a small spoon (don't like to waste!) though you can skip those bits if you want prettier presentation. Put it in some tsuyu sauce (dashi broth based sauce), sprinkle in some nori, maybe some thinly sliced scallions, some tempura flakes, and it's a beautiful light Japanese appetizer with barely any work.
Best, it can be served hot or cold, so the steaming can be done in advance with a whole carton of eggs if you like, and in no time you can have 12 elegant summer appetizers done if entertaining. It looks a lot like this: But you can adapt this to lots of things. If you like poached eggs, you can cook at lower temps for longer - check out this link: I'm working on a variation of hard-boiled eggs simmered in tea right now, that won't have horribly overcooked yolks and rubbery whites the way traditional ones often end up. I will probably flash steam at 210, shock with cold and then send it back in to finish the cooking at lower. I haven't got the timing down right and over cooked the yolk beyond my perfect yolk to the color of a normal hard boiled yolk, but it was actually still tender and moist tasting, not the chalky texture I associated with hard boiled eggs that I hated growing up..See More Convection Microwave. Many people use the steam oven for much of what they use a microwave for but the steam provides a better result. It's not as fast as a microwave of course. Depending on the size of your kitchen, it might make sense to just get a regular microwave instead of a built in and put it in a cubby in one of the cabinets. That way it's off the counter but you aren't committing to having a more expensive built in and it's easily replaceable. I had considered the Advantium in my current remodel but realized that much of the reason people liked it was what they used it for which was cooking food for their kids quickly - chicken fingers; pizza and other snack food. I also read a lot of reviews by people on this forum and realized that it was a bit of a hassle to change from microwave to regular oven because you need to swap out the shelf. I am finishing my remodel and ultimately went with a Bosch Side Opening Convection oven because the ergonomic advantages of it are great for me - I can access and load in the front instead of from the side.
Use a rubber glove - and turn the lens counter-clockwise. The oven does have a clearly visible bulb with a cover in the back. Looking in the Bosch microwave now, it's unclear where the light source is (was.) Even looking thru the sub-assembly diagrams for the microwave on that searsdirect link (thanks), I don't see a light bulb mentioned at all in the microwave. I would guess it is accessible from the front. If it is - open the door - at the top of the opening there may be a 'trim' or 'vent' strip held in with a couple of screws. Remove it - and you will probably find a little door over the bulb. I've had good luck with the Repair Parts Clinic.com. The light is in the top of the unit, I think toward the rear right-of-center as looking in from the front. Near as I can guess, the light is coming from behind (above) some perforations (vent holes?) in the (metal) ceiling. So much for german engineering. This is probably by design to generate revenue. I think the light is behind a small mesh area in the front right. This probably means that either you have to take the oven out and there is a rear access door, or you slide the oven partially out and reach the bulb from above. Pull the whole of the main casing backwards to remove and set aside. A red and brown at the front connection and a yellow wire to the rear connection. I used a pair of wire cutters to brake the bulb base plate to release the old lamp. By using our site, you agree to our use of cookies. Visit our Privacy Policy to learn more. Plus today's countertop microwaves can do so much more than warming up leftovers, heating frozen meals, and making popcorn.
Try steaming veggies, like spaghetti squash and potatoes, crisping bacon, and even making poached eggs — and you'll get delicious results much faster than from a stove top or oven. So it’s no surprise that 96 percent of U.S. households own a microwave and over two-thirds of those prefer countertop microwaves. Unlike built-in or over-the-range microwaves, countertop microwaves do not require any special installation and can easily be moved. Even if you have a small kitchen with limited counter space, there are plenty of great compact options. Over the years, the Good Housekeeping Institute’s Kitchen Appliances and Technology Lab has researched and evaluated hundreds of microwaves to find top performing models from brands we trust. We also consider ease of use when it comes to the control panel, positioning the turntable, opening and closing the door, and cleaning. Features of a good countertop microwave There may be lots of choices for countertop microwaves that could fit your space and style, but these are the essential features to look for: Turntables rotate your food to make sure it heats evenly. Without one, you’d have to stop the cooking cycle midway just to turn your plate around. Some models go side to side. Removable ones are easier to clean. The add 30 seconds button may seem trivial, but it makes a huge difference — it allows you to quickly start or add more time without having to press a series of buttons. Preset functions are standard these days especially for defrosting (based on either weight or quantity), reheating, and popcorn. More isn’t always better and they tend to be pricier, so look for ones that have what you need. Smart sensors adjust the time and power level for you by automatically measuring the heat in your food. It takes the guesswork out figuring out how much longer to heat your food for. Wattage tells you how powerful the microwave is.
If you are reheating individual portions of food, defrosting small quantities of vegetables, and making popcorn, a 700 to 900 watt microwave may be sufficient. Otherwise, you’d want at least 1,000 watts of power. Most packaged frozen meal heating instructions are based on a 1,100 watt microwave. Anything lower would simply take longer to heat through. Size (noted as cubic feet) matters — you can’t fit an 11-inch dinner plate in our favorite compact countertop microwave pick and if your kitchen is tight on space our top choice for large families may not make sense. Are microwaves safe to use. If you’ve ever been told not to stare into the microwave while it’s cooking, the concern is likely due to radiation leaking. You don’t have to worry and here is why: The microwave makes a form of electromagnetic radiation called microwaves that shakes the water molecules in the food, causing them to heat up. Unlike other forms of harmful radiation, like X-rays, these microwaves aren't powerful enough to cause damage to cells, but can potentially burn you the same way they heat food. The FDA regulates microwaves, making sure that radiation does not escape. It is completely sealed and that mesh layer inside the door blocks the waves from getting out. Always follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions and you’ll be good to go! It has all the necessary features and more: presets for popcorn, pizza, and veggies, a child safety lock, one-touch express buttons for one to six minutes, and an add 30 seconds button. You can also adjust the power level from one to ten to a maximum of 1,100 watts, the ideal power output for the widest range of uses. Also, the higher the wattage, the faster the cooking time.It features a mute button (hold the 8 down for five seconds) to turn off beeps and alerts when the cooking time ends. A smart sensor feature takes the guesswork out of reheating food — it measures the humidity in the food and adjusts the time and power level automatically.
Some reviewers miss not having the beep that reminds you that food was left in the microwave. It is available in a stylish stainless steel or black stainless steel finish. It has a power output of 1,000 watts, usually found in models at a higher price point. It comes with all-important features: an add 30 seconds button, a child safety lock, six cooking presets for potato, popcorn, pizza, beverage (one push for every four ounces - so useful for reheating coffee!), frozen dinner, and reheat, and one-touch express buttons for one to six minutes. We love the kitchen timer that can work simultaneously with the cook cycle. It can also be mounted onto the wall, although it doesn’t have a venting system like most over-the-range microwaves. Some reviewers have reported that it makes a loud whooshing noise, but it doesn’t affect how well food heats. A child lock prevents the microwave from operating either manually or by voice. We love that it remains locked even when unplugged and plugged back in. It has a timer, a power level button, an add 30 seconds button, and three presets for popcorn, timed defrost, and weight defrost. Through voice commands, you can access more smart features like say “defrost eight ounces of ground beef” or “reheat one cup of coffee.” Amazon continues to add new presets. A 10-inch dinner plate fits, but nothing larger. As a reference point, the interior dimensions are about 11 x 10 x 7 inches. Some of the key functions on the control panel are black lettering over a grey background, which can make it difficult to see in dim lighting. A mute button turns off all beeps and the soft-close door claims to be 80 percent quieter than most microwaves in the market. We no longer remind our kids to shut the door to the microwave gently — even when slammed, it automatically catches and closes quietly. The control panel is large and the slightly raised buttons are easy to press.
Instead of a numeric keypad, you get an ergonomic dial that feels like it clicks as it toggles through minutes and seconds quickly. Reviewers love that food heats consistently and evenly. Typically, microwaves mimic low heat by turning the power on and off repeatedly, which can result in uneven cooking. It also takes longer. Inverters help deliver power continuously without the stop and go. In our tests, microwaves with inverters did a good job reheating food evenly and excelled at baking potatoes, but couldn’t defrost ground beef as well as regular microwaves. It also has a smart sensor that detects the amount of steam released by the food and adjusts both power level and cooking time for the best outcome. We love the keep warm feature that runs for up to 30 minutes after a cook cycle ends — it can be added in the beginning of the cook cycle. The sensor cook button has an impressive 14 presets from oatmeal to fish fillets, but hold onto your owner’s manual because those are a lot of codes to remember. With a capacity of 2.2 cubic feet, this microwave boasts a smooth easy-to-clean control panel and a large interior, making it a great model for big families. You can heat an entire 9 by 13-inch casserole dish or a large 14-inch pizza on the 16-inch turntable and still have plenty of room to spare. These smart sensors can adjust the cook time after it measures the amount of steam released by the food. This model also has an inverter that helps heat food more quickly and evenly. Sweet and savoury dishes can be cooked at the same time without mixing flavours. As the meatprobe is connected to the oven, no manual regulation and interaction with the oven is needed.
