Jan 1.0 out of 5 stars While I love the laser measuring and level tools, drill bits and saw blades from Bosch, this power tool is a miss. The problem of cheap tools is that they don't last, this Bosch router is no exception. It died right in the middle of the first project, worked for less than 15 minutes total time. Started smelling, smoking and did quit.
It sadly has additional flaw, there are no center lines on the base, so if you need to precesely set the side guide, it's harder than it should be. Not mentioninign the mounting procedure of the drill bit, while attempting to alignin it to the depth scale. I'm hugely disappointed, Bosch has been our family tradition, my father used Bosch tools and they used to last, they used to be the workhorses with exptional build quality.I use these at work and they're fantastic Buyer beware, mine came and it looked like it had fallen out of an airplane. It's not easy to dent hard plastic cases like this, but somebody certainly managed.unacceptable. I actually got this over the newer model because of the included case.not a good move. The real kicker is that the amazon box is in absolutely perfect condition, so they packed it knowingly damaged and sent it out anyways.Regardless of how tight I have tightened the end mill, it slips and ruins my project. This has happened on about 50 of the projects I have used this router on. The base screws continue to work loose regardless of how tight I tighten them AND the use of LocTite. As far as cutting, it does OK, but again, it has ruined 50 of my projects. I would stop several times at each depth level to check for tightness of the end mill and to check depth, but it would still slip and all my work was for nought, not even addressing the associated projects costs. Nope on this one!!!!! I will give DeWalt a chance to show off their stuff!!!!Well, I listened enough to: 1) thoroughly read the instructions (on the off chance the other negative reviewers hadn't) and 2) try it out on a scrap piece of oak with a freud roundover bit before trying it on a real project. Conclusion: this router will NOT hold its depth setting; it started slipping to a deeper setting as I began to slowly and carefully start down the piece of oak. This is a real surprise; I have the larger Bosch 1617 and it has been a great tool.no issues whatsoever with it.
Stay away from the Colt.Although the micro-adjustment feature is superior to other brands, and more accurate, it is still a pain to use. Unlatch, turn motor to unlock, gross adjust, turn motor to locked position, micro-adjust using the difficult to use dial near the base, then re-latch. It makes for a slippery surface and it turns with some difficulty. The base is solid aluminum, which makes it very difficult to see your work. A clear base would be much better. I have used another (yellow) brand with the clear base and it is far superior for seeing the work. This is a top-of-the-line router and in my opinion should come with an LED light to make it easier to see the work. Again, the yellow brand has this and I prefer it. I do prefer this router to the yellow brand, because even with the cumbersome adjustment mechanism, it is still an easier and more accurate adjustment than the yellow brand. So far I have used this router for two different projects and have had to find other ways to do the job. It is my own fault since I haven't used these small routers much, but be aware that if they are going to be used for anything besides trim routing, you are going to have a lot of trial and error.in my case, mostly error.Making fine adjustments to the cutter height is difficult. You have to anticipate how much that adjustment is going to shift as a result of locking down the clamping lever. It even mentions this several times in the manual. The fine-adjustment knurled thumb-wheel is difficult to operate and gets very tight and sticky. In a tool like this, rock-solid height adjustment is pretty dang critical.
