The tool is also not ideal for longer blades but again, it’s a life saver in space confined conditions. Many of the reviewers have stated an issue with removing the battery but I’ve had no problems what so ever. It is small enough to get into tight spaces and gets the job done fast. I have alot of the little 12volts tools been a fan since the first PS 20 kit I got in 2006 and it still works great. I was looking for a saw I could handle. This is light weight which i appreciate as i am a 57 yr old female. Saws scare me a bit, and i dont have the strength to feel comfortable using the big boy stuff. I have used this for many things but really like it for cutting limbs on my acreage. My only suggestion would be to make the battery a bit easier to remove. It does a lot of catching in the wood and just shaking the wood back and forth instead of cutting it. Turns out a silky folding saw is faster, lighter, only takes moderately more physical effort, and is just more pleasant to use. So I would not recommend this for camping or pruning.
That all being said, it makes a pretty good hacksaw substitute when used with a metal cutting blade. I prefer it to using the hacksaw (faste r less effort, less blade binding) or angle grinder (safer in a bunch of different ways and less setup). It's not gonna do it as fast or for as large a piece of metal as a corded or 18v full sized model, but it does a lot better in metal than in wood and is a lot easier to control with the smaller teeth. Ron Ramsey 5.0 out of 5 stars I love this thing because, for me, It's something I can easily handle. I have a Milwaukee Saws All. This little guy is SO HANDY, but it does have it's limitations. But actually, for tree branch cutting, the blade that comes with it cuts better. Faster doesn't really get the job done faster. A necessity of design dictates a pretty short stroke. Tree trimming one handed wasn't working very well because the branch just wiggled with the blade. This is where blade speed, angle, and pressure came into play. I found light pressure on a flexible branch worked faster. I've used this on wood, aluminum, PVC, steel, (all clamped down, or in a vice, so the work can't jiggle). It's nothing like a Saws-All, but it beats doing it by hand. Battery doesn't last very long. If you have many cuts to make consider a spare battery, or lots of coffee breaks.
I had some trouble at 1st, removing the battery for charging, but now that I've done it a few times, it's not a complaint.I already owned the drill driver and impact driver and had been very happy with the easy ergonomics and tight access on those tools. There are a number of great things about this saw. 1.) the carry case. It is a step up from the drill driver case (which is not that practical). Zippered with a handle it now stores the saw, drill driver, impact driver, drill bits and charger. 2.) battery - carries enough charge to get all but the largest job done. Started on 3 bars and had reduced to 2 bars after cutting out door from T1-11 siding. 3.) Power - the sweet spot for using this is product that adds up to 1 inch thick. I have used it on siding, abs pipe, corrugated iron roofing material, trim planks etc. Would I use it to demolish 2x4 window framing that is nailed in? - you could, but that would take some time. Could they improve it. Funnily enough I found holding the tool reversed cutting away from myself gave a great deal of control. This meant the tool could be used to cut 1x3 trim boards more safely than with a skill or table saw. Would be easy enough to have this done at the factory. The included saws are fairly basic. Pick up some others. A 10 TPI wood blade would be useful. The oscillating tool will be my next Bosch 12V purchase.My second gripe is the agony in trying to get the model and serial numbers from all 3 items (the saw, charger and battery) Bosch says they're required to get the 3 year warranty. You also had to guess which numbers were the required ones since they're there, but not identified in any way. A further small, but unimportant, annoyance was that you could take your choice of French or Italian for the happily not required info on the battery, bu not English.
Bosch make a great product and then lets this witless inattention to detail mar the experience and give a good deal of frustration when you feel all warm and cuddly towards Bosch because of the terrific saw. A shame.You may need a bigger battery or a corded saw for more demanding jobs, but this saw suits my needs for an occasional job very well. The battery is fully compatible with my Bosch battery drills, another big plus.Actually I have 3 of them - I like them that much. They are small and very versatile and lightweight. I ask them to take on jobs that should be too much for them. But they keep performing - for years now. I take care of my tools, thus 3 of them. I will use one until the battery dies, then move on to the next one. That gives the tool a chance to cool off and not overheat them expecting them to run non-stop all day long. These are so handy. Highly recommend them!While it certainly cannot keep up with a corded or even 18v saw, it does get into tight spaces and is very easy to control. When the tip of the saw hits a hard surface and the unit kicks back, the force is not going to break your wrist. I have used this reciprocating saw with 6-inch and 9-inch blades, and it handles both very well. The battery discharges rather quickly when using it intensively, so have a spare on hand.
