0 out of 5 stars I paid extra for the software and transfer module. Unfortunately, the transfer module doesn't seem to actually transfer anything to the timer even though it indicates that it did. Worse yet, my manually set program doesn't finish properly leaving the system hung and needing a manual reset. If I resolve this, I will update my review but I don't have a lot of time to play around with this problem. That is why I paid extra for the software and transfer module. So far, it seems to have been an effort in futility. Like other customers, I called Toro and they say something is wrong with your system. Well, my neighbor bought the same timer this past month and has the exact same problem. Go figure! I have re-installed my older Toro without battery backup(because the plug rotted off) and it works just fine. If I have a power outage, I just have to reprogram it again. It appears that Toro has a large batch of defective timers on the market. Originally, Toro had me convinced that my overall sprinkler system had a problem but now I know better. Shame on Toro for bad products and bad customer support. It's nice to be able to ajust for varying conditions without reprogramming. Two drawbacks: It's black and bulky. I know that doesn't sound like a big deal, but I've had my old timer on the wall on my back porch for years, this one will have to find a new location. The other problem is the way the USB programming module plugs in, I think it's going to be require a large outdoor enclosure, in order to be able to plug it in.It is totally undisciplined. It leaves code burried in strange places. It causes all kinds of system issues. And the online upgrade just complicates the problems by confusing the registry entries. Other than the screen interface which is actually functional and attractive, the scheduling advisor is an afront to good coding practices. Sorry Toro, great concept but horrible delivery!

I had to look deeper than the default so the software wouldn't start with each computer boot.Works perfectly. Never any problems. Installation was very easy. Very happy with this purchase. The setup kept locking up. Went to Toro's website and was told that software updates were available through the update menu option. Well that would work great if I could get it to install. I have a question out to Toro on this. Until then I just have to setup the system without using the computer. That was very easy and intuitive to do.The Ecxtra USB connector made it easy to verify the configuration for the failing unit, and to transfer this to the replacement unit. A sensor bypass switch is provided to enable the sensor operation to be turned On and Off as needed. The timer is the brain of the system, signaling the control valves when to start and stop the flow of water to the sprinklers. Each valve controls a group of sprinklers called a watering zone. The diagram on the right depicts how the program runs the watering schedule to complete a watering cycle The program start time is set for 4:00 am. Selecting Watering Days 16 This illustration shows how an Interval schedule would be displayed. In this example, program B has a 3day Interval schedule which will start on Monday. Page 19 Selecting Program Start Times Setting the Zone Run Time A program start time is the time of day you select to begin an automatic program watering cycle.

It is important to remember that a program only requires one start time to operate automatically. When a program starts, each zone assigned to the program will water in numerical order, one at a time for its set run time. A zone run time is the length of time the zone (controlled by the valve) will water during the program watering cycle. Page 20 Planning Your Watering Schedule Note: You can use your personal computer and the Toro Scheduling Advisor interactive software to guide you through the complete watering schedule process. It is always helpful to plan your watering schedule on paper before beginning the programming steps. Only the current time and date information will be lost and will need to be reset if power is disconnected from the timer for more than 24 hours. The ECXTRA has a permanent (default) watering schedule that can operate your sprinkler system automatically when power is first applied. Turn the control dial to the special functions position. Page 32 Timer Operation The ECXTRA timer has three modes of operation: Automatic, Manual and Off. The Off mode shuts off all watering activity and prevents any zones from operating automatically or manually. Page 33 Manual Operation Manual operation enables the automatic watering programs or selected zones assigned to the program to be started manually. During operation, temporary changes can be made to increase or decrease the zone run time, step through the zone sequence and pause or stop watering using the “Watering Control Features” described on page 32. Page 34 Watering Control Features The following watering control features enable you to further control the watering program during operation. All watering control features apply to watering programs started manually and automatically. Page 35 Flashing Using the Rain Delay Feature This feature enables all watering operations to be delayed from 1 to 7 days. For example, rain is forecast in your area for the next two days.

Instead of turning the timer off (and possibly forgetting to turn it back on), a rain delay of 3 days can be easily entered. At the end of 3 days, the timer will resume automatic operation as scheduled. Turn the control dial to the rain delay position. Page 36 Using the Season Adjust Feature Changes in season and temperature generally require a change in zone run time to maintain a healthy landscape and conserve water. Adjustments can be reduced to 10 or increased to 200 of the programmed run time of each zone. Page 37 Turning Off the ECXTRA When the control dial is turned to the off position, the timer immediately shuts off any watering operation currently in progress. Leaving the control dial in the off position will prevent all automatic and manual watering operations. The timer will continue to track the current time and day of the week. Turn the control dial to the off 2 1 position. The word OFF will be displayed for approximately eight minutes.
