In other problems, the numbers given in the problem are different than the numbers given in the solution. It feels as though the problems were copied and had values changed, but the effort to go through and solve all the problems was never made. Be sure to be double-checking all of the solutions to be sure that the book is correct.As a result many references to the FE Reference Manual that is used for the exam are incorrect. In at least one case the author references a section of the manual that does not exist. In several places, the formula used in the review guide are in a different format from the FE Reference Manual. There are a surprising number of editing errors.
When I tried to find the errata for the book at the link provided in the book, it was not there. Sent an email to the customer service address at the link but have not received any response. The book does provide a lot of example problems but some of them seem to be on material that is not covered by the exam.At the end of each section there are some practice problem with solution. For some sections the number of practice problem and examples would be better if it was more, however the references at the end of each chapter can guide you for the original source if you need to study deeper. I bought the book a month before my test, read all the chapters and solve the problems and had no problem in the FE exam afterward. And I think it is a good source for FE environmental exam and worth it to read.If you are brushing up on information that you have not used in a while, the chapters can be very helpful. However, there are NUMEROUS errors in the math in the example problems (within chapter) as well as practice problems (at end of chapter). For a book meant to prepare you for a technical exam, where miscalculations can be your downfall, this is unacceptable. The amount of times i thought i was doing something wrong only to realize the authors rounded poorly, left out a variable, or simply used the wrong number in a calculation was WAY TOO HIGH. If you are buying this book for the information, it is a good aid, but make sure you get a legit NCEES FE exam to practice with, as the problems in this book are likely wrong.Good review textbook: the concise topic summaries and practice problems really help you prepare for the exam. The exam problems are easier than those in the book. However, BEWARE. There are MANY errors in the example problems and the solutions. The errata is more prevalent in the latter sections than the earlier sections, and unfortunately that's where most of the environmental-focused chapters are located.

Definitely pair this review manual with actual FE Environmental practice tests to get an accurate gauge of your success ratio.However, A LOT of typos. I would definitely look at other books before this one because the typos can catch you off guard, but it is very helpful if you play close attention and can catch the errors.They skip way too many steps in the example problems though, if you don't know a topic you'll probably need more than this book.Most of the content is theory. Only 10 to 12 exercises per subject. However, it cover all the subjects. Something difficult to find specially when looking for Fe environmental preparation materials. I used this book to enhance my understanding of those topics. There is a large number of mistakes in the book. But after I used this book.Both useful things, but they serve different purposes. This book does talk about some strategies for taking the FE in the very beginning, but more along the lines of why questions are asked certain way, and less about test taking strategies. Instead, the bulk of it is practice problems from past FE exams, both for diagnostic test sections and for learning how to solve the problem with step-by-step solutions. But this is still the best FE prep book on the market right now. Now, I did pass the FE and I used this book to study, but I used strategies that I found elsewhere. I'll lay them out here: 1. There is no 'passing' score for the FE. Instead, they take all the scores from the same test on that day, scale them using the unmarked 'bench marking' problems, and place the scores on the standard distribution. The bottom 25 do not pass, the top 75 do.This means ANSWER EVERY PROBLEM, even if it is a completely wild guess. Then use your own skills as an engineer to narrow it down to 2 choices that make sense, or actually solve it if you can in the 3-minute pacing that the FE requires. 2. If you see units, it is a unit conversion problem. Plain and simple. You don't need to remember your physics, dynamics, statics, fluids, or thermo course material and do those problems in a fraction of the pacing you got for your undergrad tests. This is where these practice problems come particularly in handy. Don't practice the problems to memorize how to solve them. Practice spotting the keyword you need to search in the Handbook PDF they provide on the test. That way you can simply look up the information you need right off the bat and see how to do the problem.
You'll still need a basic competency in solving that particular type of engineering problem - the FE handbook doesn't walk you through the formulas application step-by-step - but you don't need to memorize the formulas. It doesn't have great reviews on Amazon so I'm debating whether it's worth the price or not. It seems to cover all the sections on the Environmental exam but I'm concerned with the reviews about errors and incorrect approaches to problems. I appreciate any feedback or recommendations for additional study materials. While it was pretty useful for reviewing topics that are the same across all tests (math, Econ, etc), environmental specific material was pretty lacking.
I personally found the NCEES practice test to be the most useful because it better reflects the format of questions on the actual test. I will say the review book was very useful in learning engineering economics which wasn’t covered in my coursework. I'm mostly looking for additional environmental resources so I'll probably pass on this one now. I bought the sample exam but haven't cracked it open yet since I want to do a mock-exam so hopefully that will help me through the areas I'm currently lacking. Brightwood is really good for explanations for environmental concepts, it has pages and pages of in depth explanations of the various topics. I also think their chemistry review is good. I don't know about errors but I felt like it has too few problems for pretty important topics on the exam (such as air pollution engineering). Whether you are still in school or have kids in college, I want to help you pass the FE and take the next step in your engineering career.
