Firstly they are expensive compared to the competition, and generally have less features than comparative models from Spektrum (most notably voice read outs for telemetry and switch positions, and a bit less mixing functionality at a given price point). Secondly physical quality is no longer what it was; don't get me wrong, it's absolutely fine for everyday use, it's just no longer exceptional as it was in the days of the X3xx and PCM10 etc. In the UK the distributor is not great, and these sets are rarely seen in your LMS. Finally the split from Spektrum really hurt them; when loyal JR users with a lot of DSM2 RXs want to move to a new set, it's very difficult to make the case to stick with JR over Spek when it means swapping out all your RXs at very significant expense and inconvenience.
So in summary there is nothing really wrong with the XG series sets, but when compared to the competition at a given price point they tend to come up short. If you really like the JR brand though, go ahead with confidence - just don't expect the latest and greatest features or cheap RXs.If you would take time and read it you could see that the XG7 got DMSS and telemetry.
