It will help you to make the most of all of your watch s many functions. We hope that you will get a lot of pleasure from this very special watch. 51 The most up-to-date way to keep time. Over the 5,000 years since man began to keep time with sundials, we have progressed via water clocks, 13th century mechanical timepieces and quartz watches to the Junghans radio-controlled wrist watch. A watch, which as long as there s good reception will never go wrong and will never need adjusting. The Junghans radiocontrolled watch is absolutely precise, because it is linked via wireless technology to the timing control of one of the most accurate clocks in the world, namely the Caesium Time Base at the Physikalisch-Technischen Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig (Germany s national institute of natural and engineering sciences).

This clock is so accurate that it is expected to deviate by no more than 1 second in a million years. Junghans radio-controlled watches receive timing data via longwave radio signals (77.5kHz) from Germany s official DCF 77 standard frequency and time signal transmitter in Mainflingen (24 km southeast of Frankfurt am Main). This transmitter has a coverage range of more than 1,500km. Within the coverage range of the DCF 77 transmitter, the high-performance antenna built into the case of a Junghans radio-controlled watch can pick up the time data signal wherever, for example, long-wave reception is possible with a good radio. 52 This is done during the night at and If interference (e.g. from thunderstorms, nearby electrical equipment, light dimmers etc.) makes it impossible for the time signal to be picked up at the first attempt, the Junghans radio-controlled watch will automatically make further attempts to pick it up. Time synchronisation can also be carried out manually (e.g. after moving into an area with better reception) by using the watch s transmitter call button. The most recently received time data is stored internally in a time memory. The watch s high-precision 32kHz quartz movement will continue to keep to this original time until the watch synchronises itself again. Radio-controlled time synchronisation ensures not only that the watch always shows precisely the right time. The Junghans radio-controlled wrist watch also switches itself automatically from standard time (CET) to summer time (CEST), and, of course, vice versa (provided only that there is good reception). If you travel to a country in a different time zone, switching to the appropriate time for that country is made simple via the use of the time zone button on your Junghans radio-controlled watch. 53 You should check your watch regularly to make sure that it has enough battery power. If power is too low (e.g.

The display continues to show the actual seconds. The display then quickly changes to reception display mode (see section 5.6.1). While the synchronisation signal is being received, the radio mast flashes in the display. 56 The date is changed automatically by the time signal. In leap years, your watch will also take 29th February into account. If definitive synchronisation is not possible, despite all attempts to pick up the signal, the reception check figure goes up by 1 (see also description of reception display mode in section 5.6.1). The watch keeps count of any further days without reception. Thanks to the internal time-memory, your watch will continue to run throughout such days with the precision of a quartz watch. As soon as it is possible to pick up the synchronisation signal successfully, your watch will be synchronised. Tip: To ensure the best possible conditions for night-time reception of the synchronisation signal, you should ideally not wear your watch at night and you should, if possible, not put it down near to electrical appliances, mobile or cordless phones. 4. Functions The Junghans Mega Alarm Chronograph can perform a variety of functions that are shown in the two sections of the LC display (above and below the centre of the watch).

To turn off the LC display, hold in the mode button for longer than 3 seconds.Press one of the buttons and the display switches back on. The menu for the currently selected mode, plus the date and day of the week, are again visible. 62 The display shows hours, minutes, seconds and tenths of a second. 63. When the stopwatch is running, ON is indicated alongside CHRONO on the menu. 64 The stopwatch continues to run normally in the background. 65 Press briefly to adjust by a minute at a time. If the alarm is active, ON appears in the display alongside ALARM on the menu. When it gets to the alarm time, an acoustic signal sounds. Once the alarm has successfully gone off, it is no longer active. If you press the buttons briefly, the display will move a second at a time. If the timer is active, ON appears in the display alongside TIMER on the menu. If the timer gets to 0:00:00, an acoustic signal sounds. 71 26 5.5. Second time The second time function gives you the option to display another time in the display that is not connected with the actual analogue time (e.g. if you are on holiday in another time zone and want to see the time at home). Keep pressing the mode button until you reach the 2nd TIME mode.

Below it, the current seconds are shown, as well as another number, the reception check figure. 74 29 If the reception check figure is 0, the watch picked up the signal correctly during the overnight auto-synchronisation. Reception check figures 1-9 show the number of days that the watch has not been able to synchronise automatically due to bad reception conditions. The hands start to race and stop in the 12:00 position. The watch begins to receive the signal. The display shows the current seconds. The radio mast in the display flashes. While the signal is being received, please keep yourwatch still or put it down. 76 31 When the watch has successfully picked up the time signal (after 2-3 minutes), the hands automatically move to the correct time and the display changes to base mode (see description above). If you wish, you can interrupt the manual synchronisation process, as soon as the hands have moved to the 12:00 position. The hands reset themselves to the original time. Please note that you cannot do a manual synchronisation while the stopwatch or the timer are running. What s more, to perform this function, the watch must have enough battery power (see also section 2). If you ve been successful in manually synchronising the time, the reception check figure resets itself to 0. If the transmitter call was not successful, the reception check figure does not change and the hands reset themselves to the time that was displayed before the transmitter call. 77 32 5.7. Set time zones Your Junghans Mega Alarm Chronograph receives its time signal from the DCF 77 transmitter in Mainflingen, near Frankfurt am Main. This enables it to show winter and summer time very reliably within the transmitter coverage area.
In the lower display, the analogue time shown on your watch is now also shown digitally. If necessary, the date is also adjusted automatically when you change the time zone. 79 34 If you want to reset the first time, and with it the analogue time display, to the DCF time, you can do this in set time zones mode by pressing the reset button. Both the digital and analogue time displays will then show the DCF time again Set language (day of the week display) The day of the week display on your Junghans Mega Alarm Chrono is set at the factory to German. You can change this to English or French in check reception mode. 80 35 To change the day of the week display to another language, press the mode button until you reach the check reception mode. In this mode, you can alter the language with the set button. After you insert the battery, the hands will move to the 12:00 position and your watch will start picking up the time signal. As this happens, a bar appears below the radio mast symbol in the display and the mast starts to blink. After a few moments, the seconds counter in the lower section of the display begins to run. 82 37 After a few minutes, if the reception process has been successful, the watch automatically sets itself to the correct DCF time. If your watch is unable to pick up the time signal for 30 minutes, the reception process is broken off to save battery power. However, it is started again regularly at the end of every complete hour. If, despite this, you want to display the time in the meantime, you will need to set your watch manually to the current time (a so-called hand start ). Your watch will then function just like a normal quartz watch Hand start The hand start mode is initiated automatically after 30 minutes of trying unsuccessfully to start the watch automatically. However, the process can also be launched manually by pressing the mode and set buttons simultaneously when restarting the watch, i.e.
when the hands are in the 12:00 position (see illustration on the following page). If your watch is in hand start mode, you ll see an H in the display. Please read more on this at section 5.8). If you pressed the mode button again, you would get back to where you set the hour and minutes. 85 40 When you have made all the necessary settings, confirm these with the reset button. The hands then move to the selected time. 86 41 7. Adjusting the wrist strap Depending on which model you have, your Junghans Mega Alarm Chrono will be fitted with either a leather or a metal wrist strap. In either case, the strap will have a clasp fastener. The leather strap can be adjusted as follows to fit your own wrist size. Lift the leather strap away from the stud on the inside of the clasp q. You can now adjust the leather strap to the desired length w. Now fix the strap back onto the stud using the desired hole e. q w e Metal straps are best adjusted by a specialist watch retailer. External influences can, however, affect water resistance. Please have your watch checked on a regular basis. 88 43 9. 4 Your Junghans Mega 1000 radio-controlled watch is able to automatically receive the radio signals of the following time signal transmitter stations: DCF77 in Mainflingen (24km south-east of Frankfurt am Main) for Europe, WWVB in Fort Collins, Colorado (USA) for North America JJY40 on Mount Ohtakadoya (near Tokyo in north-east Japan) for Japan JJY60 on Mount Hagane (in south-west Japan) for Japan, the East coast of China (Beijing, Shanghai), for South Korea and parts of Taiwan. 5 4 This means that within range of one of these 4 transmitter stations your Junghans Mega 1000 will display the exact time when reception conditions are adequate. Junghans radio-controlled wristwatches automatically synchronise themselves every day with the DCF77, WWVB, JJY40 and JJY60 time signal transmitters. If your Junghans Mega 1000 radio-controlled watch is unable to receive a signal due to interference (e.g. thunder storms, electronic devices, lighting dimmer switches) it will automatically attempt to receive a signal the following day at the same time. The time can also be synchronised manually by calling a transmitter e.g. from a place with better reception. The most recent time information received is stored in an internal time memory. This time is then kept by a high-precision 32 khz quartz oscillator until the next time your watch is synchronised. The radio-controlled time synchronisation function of your Junghans Mega 1000 radio-controlled watch not only ensures total time accuracy, but also automatically switches (at night) from winter time to daylight saving time (Europe and North America) and vice-versa when reception is available. The Junghans Mega 1000 time zone adjustment function enables you to set your watch to the relevant local time when travelling in countries in other time zones. 2. Operational requirements Make sure that the battery has enough power to ensure the continuous operation of your watch.
The watch regularly checks whether sufficient battery power is available. If the battery is low on power (empty battery or low ambient temperature affecting battery performance) then a battery indicator appears in the LCD display. If the battery does not recover (e.g. due to higher ambient temperature) you should bring the watch to your specialist retailer or send it to the Junghans Service Center within a few weeks to have the battery replaced. Battery type: CR 1620 average service life: approx. 2 years Please ensure that the battery is disposed of appropriately and in accordance with the legal regulations. 6 7 5 3. Automatic time synchronisation The indicator increases by 1 point for every further day that a signal is not successfully received. On days when the watch has not been synchronised time is kept with the accuracy of a quartz watch using the internal time memory. The watch will be synchronised as soon as a signal is successfully received. Recommendation: The best conditions for reception of the time signal at night exist when the watch is not being worn and is not placed near to electronic devices, mobile telephones or cordless telephones. 8 The fully automatic synchronisation of your watch is carried out daily with the DCF77 transmitter (Europe) at 2am and 3am CET (Central European Time) and at 3am and 4am CEST (Central European Summer Time). During signal reception the transmitter indicator and the reception indicator flash repeatedly. These indicators are visible in time display mode 5 (see chapter 4.1). The date is also automatically adjusted by the time signal, and this function also takes 29 February into consideration during leap years. If, within a 24-hour period, all attempts to receive a signal fail to correctly synchronise the watch, the reception indicator increases by 1 point (see chapter 6, Description of the reception indicator mode ). 4. Functions The Junghans Mega 1000 has a variety of functions that are shown in the display.
The watch is operated using the five buttons above and below the display as well as on the side of the watch (the button designations are shown in the overview located in the foldout front cover) Time display modes The following five time display modes are available. In these modes the watch cannot be adjusted using the or buttons. Only (to switch between Time, Stopwatch, Countdown Timer and Alarm modes) and (to select time display mode) are active so that the watch settings cannot be accidentally changed. Stopwatch with split function and split-time memory (chrono) Countdown timer Alarm - Time Stopwatch function Countdowntimer Alarm Time The name of the mode that is currently in use is highlighted on the display with a border. The mode display bar at the bottom of the LCD changes when the mode is changed. The upper area of the LCD shows the function corresponding to the mode that is selected. The display languages available include German, English and French. Setting the language is described in chapter 9.1. The selected time display mode does not change until another mode is selected by pressing the button 7 5. Description of the functions and their operation 5.1. Stopwatch with split function (chrono) Press until CHRONO mode is selected. The display shows hours, minutes, seconds, tenths of a second and hundredths of a second. When the stopwatch is running, pressing shows the split time. These are shown in the upper part of the display. Pressing again shows additional split times. The last ten split times are always saved. The stopwatch continues to run when split times are being shown.When the stopwatch is running the tag ON appears above the CHRONO menu item. After pressing to stop the stopwatch, the split times that were saved can be shown by pressing. Pressing resets the counter to 00:00:00.00 and erases any split times that have been saved. The stopwatch can only be reset if it is not running 8 5.2. Countdown timer 5.3.
Alarm Press until TIMER mode is selected. Press until ALARM mode is selected. Press the button briefly to adjust the time by the second. If you hold the button down the time changes quickly. When the buttons are pressed briefly the time changes by the minute, but if the button is held down the time changes quickly. When the alarm time is adjusted the alarm is automatically activated. When the countdown timer is running the tag ON appears above the TIMER menu item in the display. When the countdown timer reaches 00:00:00 an acoustic signal sounds. The alarm is activated or deactivated using the button. When the alarm is active the tag ON appears above the ALARM menu item in the display. When the time that the alarm is set to is reached an acoustic signal sounds. 15 9 Your Mega 1000 provides you with the option of setting the alarm as a daily repeating alarm (24h alarm) or as a single alarm. Proceed as follows to set the type of alarm: Make sure that your Mega 1000 is in ALARM mode. The selected alarm mode is displayed in the upper section of the display, SET AL 24 for the daily repeating alarm and SET AL for the one-off single alarm. After you have selected the desired alarm mode, press the button to return to setting the alarm time. The alarm can be switched off by pressing any button. Preferably the button should be used for this in order to avoid accidentally altering the settings. After the alarm has sounded it is no longer active and the ON tag disappears. If you want the alarm to sound again, set the desired time as described above and reactivate the alarm. 6. Reception indicator The reception indicator shows whether the watch has been synchronised with the signals from the transmitter stations. Make sure that one of the five time display modes is shown in the display and if this is not the case, press until one of the time display modes is shown.
Press until the reception indicator is shown (time display mode 5: time, transmitter indicator and reception indicator). If the reception indicator reads 0 then the watch was properly synchronised during the previous night. The numbers 1-9 show the number of days in which watch has not been automatically synchronised due to poor reception. The watch can also be manually synchronised in any of the time display modes i.e. you can call the transmitter station. This is done by pressing for more than 3 seconds. The display changes to show the reception indicator (time display mode 5) 10 When the reception phase is started a countdown measured in seconds appears at the top of the display. This countdown is controlled by the signal transmission and starts as soon as a signal is received. The transmitter indicator in the display starts flashing. When making a transmitter call keep the watch still or put it down somewhere safe. Once the watch has finished receiving the time signal (after approx minutes) the display automatically adjusts to the time received from the transmitter station and the display changes back to the previous mode. It is also possible to stop the manual synchronisation process before it has finished. This is done by pressing. The display then returns to the mode it was in previously. Your Junghans Mega 1000 first attempts to receive a signal from the transmitter station it last used to carry out a synchronisation. If the watch cannot receive a signal from this transmitter station then it attempts to receive a signal from the other transmitter stations. The transmitter station that the watch is currently trying to reach is shown in the display. If a manual synchronisation is carried out successfully, the reception indicator resets itself to 0. However, if the transmission call is unsuccessful the reception indicator does not change and the display returns to the time and mode that were active before the transmission call was carried out.
If you have selected a different time zone to the one received from the transmitter station then the manually selected time is verified. In this case only minutes and seconds are synchronised. 18 If a signal is received from a different transmitter station to the one last used for synchronisation then the time zone that is currently selected is retained and the minutes and seconds are synchronised. The current local time is set using the time zone adjustment function (see chapter 8.1 time zone adjustment ). This means that the watch will reliably show daylight saving or winter time (Europe and North America) within the transmission zones. The display shows the time.When the time zone is adjusted the main time display changes to show the time in this time zone. Press for more than 3 seconds. Press once the desired time zone has been set. Where necessary the date is automatically adjusted at the same time. To reset the main time to your home time (see chapter 8.3 home time ), press for more than 3 seconds when in one of the 5 time display modes. The main time display then shows the selected home time again. If the home time has not been set manually then the time zone of the transmission station that was last used for synchronisation is shown 12 8.3. Home time Once the desired hour time display mode has been set, press to adjust the home time setting. This setting enables you to set the home time. The display shows the time and date. Press for longer than 3 seconds to change the language. Press to return to the normal time display mode. The letter in the upper part of the display flashes and shows the selected language (D for German, F for French, E for English). Press to set the date format nd Time The 2 nd time function enables you to show an additional time in the display that is independent of the main time (e.g. when you want to see your home time whilst holidaying in another time zone). Press until the time display mode 2nd TIME is selected.
