Click to expand. You will be lengthening your driveshaft by an inch or two, so measure it first. Mine needs to get shortened.Depending on what year W58, shifter location may vary. Mine's a SC300 W58 without the remote shifter, so it was close to my bench seat. I flipped the shifter arm forward so i can clear second gear and still reach my pedals. I need bucket seats. So measure and cut hole after the swap is in, makes it so much easier. Some early W58's have the shifter up front like the regular W5x's in the trucks. If I had bucket seats and turned my shifter around, it'd be right in my hand. Reverse, wire that into the reverse switch on the transmission. Depending on your transmission and sensor, it may be off. I'm reading 83.3 of actual road speed. My bellhousing came from a 22R W4x series transmission. Somehow it worked. Maybe it was 22RE. Same engine pattern, yes, but the W4x part still matched my W58. I was surprised. I got an Exedy Master Cylinder, Slave Cylinder, and OEM replacement clutch all from Amazon. Works well and I drive the piss out of it. I got a Brute Force OEM replacement flywheel on Amazon. I didn't use a hard line for the clutch, it was impossible to find in my area. So I got a stainless steel braided line made. I think mine was 4ft long, and that's cutting it really really close. Too tight of a fit and hung too close to my engine. I think 5-6 ft of line would be plenty and you could use rubber wrapped metal clamp things to hold it to the firewall to keep it clear from everything.
You'll need matching fittings too. Any race shop should hook you up. No teflon on the fittings either. Buy the correct transmission fluid, Toyota doesn't work with GL-5, it'll eat you synchro's alive. Find GL-4, it'll be worth the find. The automatic transmission mount's plate thing is mounted lower than the manual one.So find a manual one to be secure and correct. Wouldn't it suck to make a shift or drive under load and have your transmission break loose. Find a good parts store that carries really high quality metric bolts that are equivalent or better than the bolts holding the motor to the bellhousing. I couldn't use two of the ones from the auto's bellhousing, so i had to buy two longer ones. Get the right pitch and thread, it'll save your ass.Took me about 6 tries, almost lost my thumb or the W58 falling on my chest. Use several extensions and a swivel, go up along the side of the transmission. I spent about 3 hours sitting on top of my motor trying to figure out how to get any sort of wrench or socket on the top few bolts with no success. I sat under the truck and looked up the side of the bellhousing and bingo, slid my extensions, swivel, and socket up there. And bingo, perfect alignment. What did I learn from my timing chain a few years prior. Craftsman tools. Broke two and was stuck using one ratchet to go forward, another to go backwards.Red loctite on some things. Transmission shifter bushing and pivot bushing from Marlin Crawler. Both will be white. 6 Flywheel bolts from Marlin Crawler. These will take loctite if i remember.It's what you want. Balanced gear ratios and a good overdrive. I'm loving mine, just how my truck should've been from the factory.Tranny is all you're looking for from a 22re celica. The 22RE bellhousing and the W58 transmission. The clutch master and slave you can get brand new for cheap, i got new exedy ones from amazon.That's for my clutch fluid. If you find a manual truck, just grab the hard lines and the mounting stuff.
Get the pedal assembly from the manual truck.To make things easiest and use new parts, grab this from a manual truck. Transmission Bellhousing Clutch arm (what your slave cylinder presses on to push on the TO bearing to disengage the clutch) Pedals assembly Clutch hardlines Manual Transmission mount If it's a manual XCab, grab the damn driveshaft lol After that, you'll get a new clutch, flywheel, cylinders, and a few others elsewhere. That's all i could think of today.Wil a 88s driveshaft work with mine. I'm planning on getting everything from this truck straight to the pedals I'm gonna haggle them on everything and hopefully get everything for under 250. Would these parts work on a 90. I know it's the rights transmission since its cable driven speedoStraight down the middle between the two brackets, then weld some metal in between.If we're talking strictly xcab's, that's a different story lol.
