0 out of 5 stars Patten is very good at helping the reader learn about question writing, but her chapters on sampling and pilot testing barely scratch the surface. I would recommend this book for an undergraduate, but certainly not for the serious graduate student who wants to conduct high quality survey research.I find most of the Dummies books to be well written. Author Patten's step by step construction is easy to follow with many examples. The chapters and subtopics are all numbered. When she refers to previously covered information or information that will be explained in greater detail later in the book, it is very easy to find because of the number references. The first chapters cover creating questionnaires to gather various kinds of information. The middle covers sampling techniques to select respondents, and ways to test and pilot your questionnaire. The last sections cover reporting your data through tables and graphs, and explain how to determine means, medians, margins of error, and standard deviations, and when to use each methodology depending on your data. I strongly recommend this book. It identifies all of the common mistakes made by beginning researchers, and shows how to prevent them. Heureusement, le recit des attaques a la fin remonte carrement la qualite de l'ouvrage. Blague a part, ce livre est a prendre comme une critique detournee des Etats-Unis et de la mondialisation. Neanmoins, le style n'est pas bon (du moins, c'est un guide - il faut garder cela en tete) et a la fin le livre est lassant. Pas mal du tout. Tres utile pour l'avenir;-)On y croirait presque. Mais j'ai decroche au fur et a mesure. Le recensement est quand meme plutot interessant. Je reflechissais presque a comment j'allais me defendre une fois que ca allait arriver - etrange. L'auteur poursuit sa creation d'un monde coherent et horrifique debutee avec World War Z. Le livre est construit de telle maniere que je me suis de nombreuse fois surprise a me demander ou j'irai et ce que j'emporterai si une telle attaque avait lieu. Les epidemies recensees a la fin du livre etaient, bien qu'interessantes, tres longue sur la fin. C'est (tres) rare pour moi d'abandonner un ouvrage mais j'ai trouve ce livre d'un grand ennui. Si vous etes familier avec l'univers des zombies, ce livre risque de vous faire le meme effet. Par contre, pour une premiere approche, ca peut etre sympa.
