I highly recommend to those who experience this problem to have alongside a pathophysiology book to refer to when this phenomenom happens. If you are particularly interested in assessment, then get DeGowan as well, or get all three. ---------- Original Review: I bought Bates' and borrowed For example, it separates the description of what you see in the nasal mucosa and nasal turbinates, giving expected vs.Another difference is that Mosby's groups infant, child, pregnant woman, and older adult assessments close the the adult assessment area, and Bate's has chapters in the back of the book for those assessments. Therefore, continuing the nasal assessment, to fully determine what a pale boggy turbinate might mean in a child, when using Bates one should look in at least two chapters separated by hundreds of pages. Mosby also has a separate chapter for eye assessments; Bates' places the eyes in the same chapter as ears, nose, and throat. The increased detail in Mosby also comes at the expense of a smaller typeface (they both have about the same number of pages and the same margin area for notes). I am definitely keeping the Bate's, but I'm going to buy a used Mosby to supplement it. Hope this review helps some NP or MD student!This text was comprehensive and easy to read. The only downside I note, is that the captions and descriptions of the photos are a bit unclear at times during the Ortho section.I am sure it will come in handy once clinical's start and again when I get a job. The authors put a lot of attention to the details, which really helps in understanding. Lots of pictures to go along with explanations too. It also has examples of documentation which is a big help for beginners trying to figure out how to write notes in charts.This book barely helped during my graduate physical assessment class. I frequently had to go online for more information as large parts of the assessment write up just wasn't included. This book shows you what to do but some explanations were not clear. I wish my school chose a better book.It's taught me a lot over the years, in conjunction with lecture, labs and practice. I keep it as a reference and refresher. It's got great illustrations and pictures and is well written. You are most likely purchasing this as a required text and it is worth it.It teaches the basics but not much else. It would be good for a keen nursing or paramedic student, but isn't sufficient for medicine on its own.Book was a little bent on the corner and that detail was omitted from the description, but no highlights and writings.
